Note: this is a KDE 3 icon set. For the more up-to-date Buuf Deuce icon set for KDE 4, go here: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=76340

Here's my Buuf iconset for KDE! Please contact me with any requests or suggestions! I tried to be as thorough as possible, but I may not use the most common apps. Almost all icons by Paul Davey aka Mattahan, a couple edits by me. All rights reserved. These icons are not available for use commercially without first contacting Paul.

*note: If the download is being strange, right click > save target as on the download link.

The build script depends on 'convert', which is part of ImageMagick.

To install this set:
1. download the zip file
2. extract the zip file
3. cd into the Buuf folder
4. open a terminal there
5. run ./buildset
6. get a beer
7. Install the icon theme in KDE Control Panel
8. Enjoy

:D love the style, keep up the good work! as a suggestion, maybe add specialty folders (like one for video, music, documents, etc.) that would be cool

Oh, and there isn't a wallet in the iconset, so if anyone has any creative ideas about what I could use I'll take anything - I have limited gimp skills, so I *might* be able to whip some combination of Buuf icons together for it.

Could you please specify a clear license? All rights reserved is very unspecific and very restrictive.

Maybe something like creative commons share alike non commercial license could be used?

This would clarify what i might do with the icon set and what not.

I hope you can talk to Paul to clarify it.

I changed the license section, it's essentially CC-SA with the commercial use addendum. I added the kpdf icon, what else is missing? :)

O.k. great. Maybe you could add the sentence with the cc-sa license to the license section.

I've downloaded the version now and I can't find the kpdf icon.

This is quite a lot and still incomplete, but getting a consistant icon-set for an up-to-date linux distribution is a really hard task as one can see here on kde-look, since there are so many applications available.
Therefore I've added a plus to the applications I personally miss the most.

I hope you can add them.

I would put CC-SA up there but I can't find his actual verbose license (just that summary) because the file is missing from the iconset (yet linked to). :/

I've just added most of the icons you've requested with some exceptions: kde-edu, openoffice, and kwalletmanager, all of which I plan on doing. Ksnapshot should already have an icon and kooka should be using the scanner icon in devices - if it's not, tell me and I'll add an icon.

I'm not sure what you mean by media:/ - the only icon I see is the generic folder icon in dolphin and the computer icon in konqueror.

I did all of kdewebdev, though, so I hope that makes up for it :). All of these icons will be in the next update, 0.4.

I left this comment for GANT, but I want to repeat myself:

I like the distinctly different style. I'm tired of the Mac and Windows clones, and the stock KDE icons are boring to me.

Thanks for keeping variety and creativity going! I look forward to updates and more themes from you.

Something I particularly like about this theme is the distinct kmenu icon; all the other themes seem bent on either reminding me I'm using KDE with a giant K or a K+gear, or cloning other systems with a Mac-like or MSFT-like icon. (What *is* that kmenu icon, anyway...?)

I have been using this theme for several months, have tried others, and I always come back to this one.

It looks like when I changed the index.desktop to the new index.theme specification I forgot to see if any of the headings had changed (they did). It should show up in the menu now - if you don't want to redownload, simply remove the 'KDE' from the first line of the index.theme.

Thank you for taking care, now it works! Yet I still wonder why this has to be such a hassle all of a sudden. The deviant-archive didn't even needed to be unpacked, it could be installed simply by choosing it in KControl, now there's a script which has to run for several minutes before the actual install can take place...

Anyway, this set is worth even more hassle, so thank you again!

Well, the reason you have to wait a couple minutes is so that icons sizes besides 128x128 are available for KDE to use. I just tried installing and using the icon set without doing so and almost none of my icons changed, so perhaps our KDE environments are different or something along those lines.

Most propably - I never had this effect with Buuf (using KDE 3.5.7). It always took over any size from Desktop to servicemenus... hm. Well, as I said, it is worth waiting for it :) .

I don't know for sure what trouble they're having, but it appears that index.desktop is missing -- which makes it not possible to install through the settings menu. I got around this by copying index.desktop from 0.2 and altering it. Other than that it worked fine for me.

The set is extremely nice, but please check the archive again - I had no trouble installing the deviantart-archive, but this one refuses any cooperation.

It's in the right format, deviantart just doesn't like the tar.gz file ending for some reason and shortens it to .gz. I may simply put it in a zip in the future although this doesn't seem quite as linux-ie as a good ol' gunzipped tar.

I've changed the instructions until I figure out a good method.
