or install gtweakui and go to Supplementary Preference and "Session"

You must save splash to "/usr/share/pixmaps/splash/name_file.png"

Next step:
You must start "gconf-editor".
Now you must select "apps => gnome-session => options" and change key "splash_image" to "splash/name_file.png".
