==== THE WIN2-7 PACK IS NOT UNDER DEVELOPMENT ====

Thank you for visiting the Official homepage of the Win2-7 pack!

=== Intro: ===
Even from its start in late 2009 as an Gnome Icon pack, the Win2-7 Packs goal has not changed...To be the most comprehensive, easily installable, customizable and most user friendly Windows 7 Transformation Pack on earth for the Gnome Desktop! :D We are amazed at how close we have come! Feel free to download and install it, make sure to vote if you like it and comment if you have anything to say and even donate a few bucks! But be sure to read the FAQ first before you install. We have put in hours and hours to make the Win2-7 pack do a very careful and safe installation and uninstallation, but none the less, use at your own risk and make a backup just as you would during any major update. Anyone involved in the Win2-7 Pack Team is not liable for any dataloss or damage that is the direct or indirect result of the Win2-7 Pack.

=== Quick FAQ: ===
Q: How do I install? A: Run GUIInstall.sh.
Q: How do I uninstall? A: Run GUIUninstall.sh.
Q: What languages are there? A: English , Danish and Croatian.
Q: Is it compatible with my system? A: Check the "Compatibility Chart" under Links.
Q: How can I extract it? A. Use "Extract Here" from the context menu or run "cat Win2-7Pack*.tar.lzma | lzma -d | tar x" at a terminal.
Q: When extracting I get: "This does not look like a tar archive"? A: Remove ".tar" from the end of the filename.
Q: I want to help translate? A: Send Dart00 a Private Message with your language and personal e-mail and experience.
Q: My Panel Menu does not look like the one in the Screenshot? A: Gnomenu must be installed (using Win2-7 Essentials or some other way) and added to the panel manually.
Q: It looks like it installed correctly but does not have any of the Microsoft logos, icons, sounds, cursor...etc. A: You did not install the Win2-7 Restricted Extras in the Win2-7 Essentials options.

If the icons had been redrawn from scratch and they only looked like the original Windows 7 icons then I believe they would be legal.

Ya, that would be the most ideal solution, but i didnt list it in our solution list cause me or Jesus dont have that type of talent at the moment. :(

Hmmm...I see.

Based off that documentation I guess we cant "legally" distribute the Microsoft icons with the pack.

I guess well have to remove the Microsoft icons in the next version of the pack.

We will be replacing them with a Microsoft "themed" icon set.

Also I was thinking....I wonder if we could keep the Microsoft Windows Icons, but upload them to a torrent and post the link to the torrent, then we/gnomelook would not be hosting them so Microsoft couldn't complain?

Report

Just a question, but are these the actual icons from Microsoft Windows or have they been made to look like them?

If someone made them themselves then they're legal, like any cloned artwork.

Report

Dart00

I think so. We've made some edits to some of them but I don't think that counts. Jesus knows more about the icons then I do.

We would need to find a cloned set, so far no luck really.

Neither legally, nor morally. If you have some candy or anything else that you do not want to share with me then I must accept the fact (and make friends with other people).

Free Software is about sharing not stealing.

Morally I have no probalm with. Haha!

But sure. The next version of Win2-7 will have a alternative icon set, a few bug fixes and a torrent to the win2-7 Icon theme for those who wish to download it (illegally :P )

Hey¡ first of all, i want to congratulate you¡ you have done an excellent work here. Now, my trouble, i installed win2-7 with no problems, the problem came when i wanted to activate the RGBA to have the transparencies in the windows, so i installed it but when i did this, i wa unable to watch videos in youtube using firefox, this doesn't happen when i use chrome, the trouble is that firefox is much better than chrome, so any idea of what is wrong here???

Report

I think you did install the RGBA which unlocks all gtk apps to show transparencies, the Hyper-Aero project was using that repositories

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:erik-b-andersen/rgba-gtk

if you have this repos, just remove it or look for

gtk2-module-rgba

and uninstall it

Thats what im thinking....Thats why i asked how did he install it. did he run the Hyper-Aero Deb? (We need to remove that lol)

Report

Yep¡ I added the ppa, and what i did to solved this was to remove it, and to have transparencies i installed the gnome color chooser and in the machines menu i select murrine for global settings

6.2 installation aborts at the very beginning on mint 9, though 6.1 works fine despite warnings !

Report

Hmm. Ill try a Mint 9 test again.

I had to redesign the OS detection code to add some extra functions.

Can u give any more details about what happens? does it give a error? does it randomly close? What part does it close on?

Report

efend

well, it checks OS as usually, 6.1 said it couldn't guarantee correct work on mint 9 (and I use a russian distribution Rosinka on the base of mint 9) but all worked ok except some trash error massages in terminal concerning some icons. 6.2 just aborts installation after OS check :(

Yep. /etc/issue is what the script checks for OS detection.

Your OS may be Linux Mint 9, but they changed /etc/issue to the updated OS name, hence not making it LinuxMint 9 any more. ;)

Report

9

Dart00

Well alright.

What does /etc/issue contain?

Report

efend

well, you are right...etc/issue is changed, it said "LM 9 Rosinka", when I changed it to "LinuxMint 9", installation went smooth )))))

Report

9

Dart00

Ok. The script is looking for any "compatibly" between that OS and Linux Mint, and its not finding anything.

It may be based of Linux Mint but the script says it not a close enough match to be installed like it would be on Linux Mint. So the script wont install.

There were some changes that may prove damaging for non supported OS's, thats why i put a block. I dont recommend you install it and install it cause i don't know the effect it could have on your system.

Is there a copy of that distro in English i could take a look at?

Report

efend

this distro "Rosinka" is just Mint 9 with adittional missing lang packs (Russian), more codecs and drivers, all in all about 300 Mb more, system itself is not changed, all system utilities state it is mint9, moreover it is quite stable as mint is, just even more polished. So I see no reason why 6.2 shouln't work on it (5.8-6.1) work fine !

An Icon Theme should have a valid .theme file among its files and aim to be complete for desktop use under Gnome or KDE Plasma.

If it contains only a single icon or a small set of icons, please use the Icon Sub-Sets or Single Icon/Logo categories instead.
