Even from its start in late 2009 as an Gnome Icon pack, the Win2-7 Packs goal has not changed...To be the most comprehensive, easily installable, customizable and most user friendly Windows 7 Transformation Pack on earth for the Gnome Desktop! :D We are amazed at how close we have come! Feel free to download and install it, make sure to vote if you like it and comment if you have anything to say and even donate a few bucks! But be sure to read the FAQ first before you install. We have put in hours and hours to make the Win2-7 pack do a very careful and safe installation and uninstallation, but none the less, use at your own risk and make a backup just as you would during any major update. Anyone involved in the Win2-7 Pack Team is not liable for any dataloss or damage that is the direct or indirect result of the Win2-7 Pack.

Q: How do I install? A: Run GUIInstall.sh.
Q: How do I uninstall? A: Run GUIUninstall.sh.
Q: What languages are there? A: English , Danish and Croatian.
Q: Is it compatible with my system? A: Check the "Compatibility Chart" under Links.
Q: How can I extract it? A. Use "Extract Here" from the context menu or run "cat Win2-7Pack*.tar.lzma | lzma -d | tar x" at a terminal.
Q: When extracting I get: "This does not look like a tar archive"? A: Remove ".tar" from the end of the filename.
Q: I want to help translate? A: Send Dart00 a Private Message with your language and personal e-mail and experience.
Q: My Panel Menu does not look like the one in the Screenshot? A: Gnomenu must be installed (using Win2-7 Essentials or some other way) and added to the panel manually.
Q: It looks like it installed correctly but does not have any of the Microsoft logos, icons, sounds, cursor...etc. A: You did not install the Win2-7 Restricted Extras in the Win2-7 Essentials options.

Lol the program requires root but dont run in chroot environment because root is only the user...

I can send you a message with some instructions who you could do it if it where gnome 2. Mate is not really different though. Pleas check my blue seven os distro ( the complete iso file).I use awn, but you copuld also use mate-panel, the rest of our projects are not really different.

The win2-7 Libre icon theme seems to be 100 % free. I don't know the copyrights for the other icons, but it don't think that these are legal if you use them on companies firms offically or for commercial use.

It's a great project, but i got a problems here.
I have finished install win2-7 and sccessfully applied the theme. Add all things look great, However, when i type "gksu myprogram", i got a windowsw2000 style, and then same to "sudo myprogram".

More detail info is only BUTTON will fall back to win2k style.

More detail info is only BUTTON will fall back to win2k style.

Is Centos 6.3 based on gnome 2 ?
Perhaps you have to install the thmes without the installation script.

Hello !

Here are some interresting links :

First, the fork of Gnomenu working on Linux Mint 14 with Mate (not the deb but the tar.gz file)

So ! I think that Win2-7 Pack for which I made all the french translation and some Gnomenu french Themes could reborn and give to new Linux a nice look.

THE WIN2-7 PACK IS NOT UNDER DEVELOPPMENT at the moment.


Avant window navigator is a usable replacement for the gnome-panel (gtk2).This program doesn't conflict with gnome 3 sessions and you could run dockbarx and gnomenu inside it, without MATE components.That solution depends on old python and gtk2 components but not on the most gnome 2 parts.It would be about ~90 MB but not more. And perhaps an aditional ram usage of ~75 MB ( not much if you have 3 GB Ram) but less ram usage and faster than unity.(tested in qemu)

Usable themes are :
Ambiance w7 ( gnome-look.org ) blue 7 theme sourceforge net; Win2-7 Remix ( gnome-look.org);
Costubuntu ( gnome-look.org)
If someone has some more questions or like to write something to write an update for the pack please send me a message.

My OS is Ylmf_OS 3, an Ubuntu derivative, why does the program say it's not supported?

Win2-7 Has been uploaded to HotFile for as long as they will keep it there. Please use that download and that download only for safety.

Can you make up for desktop mate. If you need GnoMenu, I have made ​​him a MateNu. If you need DockbarX, I could Make. But not for distributions other than Debian.

I understand that it's a hell of a job to port Win2-7 Pack into Gnome 3 and that it is practicly impossible to do, so the project will end when Gnome 2 becomes obsolete. But are there Gnome 3 alternatives as good as this tool already available? And is it still compatible with Gnome 2 alternatives like Cinnamon (Linux Mint)?

No, tools as good as the win 2-7 pack doesn't exist for gnome 3.
You could test to use my blue 7 theme , the avant window navigator some components of the MATE Desktop to run gnomenu and dockbarx inside it.As a window manager you could still use compiz, as session manager gnome-3-sesion.
I haven't found a gtk3 theme which looks closer to the win2-7 themes as the blue 7 theme jet.I am working on an alternative for newer ubuntu versions.
A Configuration like this is nearly stable, but really a bit slower than gnome 2.
