7 .4
Description:

A theme inspired by my earlier work "Adwaita-cupertino" but looking softer contrasts and less "cupertino"

Added gnome-shell theme adapted to GrayDay
The gnome-shell theme is a modification of the nice theme "Ambiance Blue Theme Suite" created by satya164
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Ambiance+Blue+Theme+Suite?content=133676

Requirements: Gnome 3.4, GTK3 unico-engine, GTK2 Murrine and Pixmap engines.
Tested in Fedora 17 Gnome 3.4.x and Unity/Ubuntu 12.04

IMPORTANT: Inside the theme folder there is a readme.txt file with some instructions for customizations.
- 6 presets for change the highlight color scheme easily
- 5 styles for nautilus
3 styles to fit gnome 3.4 (gnome-shell) without globalmenu
2 styles specific for unity, to fit gnome 3.4 with globalmenu

- 5 styles for tabs (tabs-themed, tabs-themed-light, tabs-dark, tabs-gray, tabs-classic) see screenshot 3
- 2 styles for unity top panel (default theme and dark)

Oh put it in /usr/share/themes btw.

I was incorrect, it's only partially solved.

I had switched back to adwaita, as gnome-shell was continuously eating 8% CPU (even w/o any open windows) and moving a terminal screen around with the mouse really fast would easily get it at 100%.

Changing to adwaita didn't help btw :). I changed back to grayday (window theme / shell theme & gtk+ theme) and at that point it worked (didn't logout / back in again). After logging in again firefox was still fine, but the gnome UI's have no checkmark/radio buttons. That is, they don't have the outer thingy (ie the box/circle itself, it does show checkmarks/buttons if it is selected).

The gnome-shell issue appears to have been related to ati-drivers (12.2), running open source radeon drivers now. Both exhibit the same behaviour here.

You can find a screenshot here: http://postimage.org/image/bo7ifi6ed/

One other remark I have is on tabs (gtk3, looks fine in firefox (gtk2?)). The line between tabs seems to be white. If I look at a small angle (really only a small deviation from looking straight at the screen), I can't see the line at all. It might have to do with my screen (15" laptop screen at 1920x1080 (HP EliteBook 8560w)). Mileage will of course vary with other screens. Maybe something to think about (I don't really mind :)).

Other than those, I'd say it's perfect. Thanks for the fantastic theme. They should ditch adwaita and make this the default :).

The more I think about your problem, I am increasingly convinced that his problem is the installation of unico-engine (theme engine of GTK3)

Report

Viewing your screenshot, I tend towards a theme engine problem, because not drawn correctly the edges of tabs (is just a guess).

To rule out a permissions problem, you can reach here?
/usr/share/themes/GrayDay/gtk-3.0/assets/
and
/usr/share/themes/GrayDay/gtk-2.0/assets/

and open files .svg with lnkscape or any other graphics program?

especially these .svg
checkbox-checked.svg, checkbox-unchecked.svg, radio-selected.svg and radio-unselected.svg

if you can open, then you have a problem with the theme engine (for some reason does not draw the .svg)
otherwise (you can not open) the problem is permissions

I'm on gentoo.

I have it resolved however.

I had it selected as window theme and GTK+ theme, but not as shell theme (couldn't select anything there, gave an exclamation mark too). Turned out to be an issue with gnome-tweak-tool. Now that I have it selected in all 3 places issues are gone.

One does wonder why it didn't show the 'default' checkboxes/radiobuttons then. Perhaps caused by tweak tool too tho'.

Great theme, thanks.

i like your theme :)

but i have 1 question. how can i change the tooltip backgroundcolor? i working with texstudio and there are all tooltips are black with blue font. same in firefox. can i change the color to gray?

Report

Apparently not a problem of the theme, I suggest
In textStudio:
Menu Options -> Configure textStudio ...
In section: General
Appearance
Style: GTK+
Color Scheme: Classic

and UNCHECK "Ignore most system colors", otherwise, textStudio not take the system default colors

Respect to firefox (v10.0.2), I tested it in openSuse 12.1, Ubuntu 11.10, Fedora 16 and tooltips display correctly, white text on black background (that's the way it is set)

What happens is that chrome is not configured to use the gtk theme.

go preferences, select tab personal, in the section to change theme, there are two buttons
- One to select classic theme (blue)
- Another to select/use gtk theme

choose to use gtk theme.

Otherwise, chrome uses the default theme blue

Excelente tema. Soy un gran fan de Adwaita cupertino, y GrayDay me ha resultado incluso más agradable que el anterior. ¡Felicitaciones y adelante!

It really is a joy to the eyes, I was trying to make something like this but not very successfull.
PS: You should also do this in a more ubuntu orange flavor and a mint flavor, just for the possibility of choice.

Please do keep your awesome work

Thank you very much for your comment :)

not a bad idea the option to customize some colors, is something I'm thinking from the beginning, there are some small problems to solve to make it easy, but do not rule it out.
