Description:

MediterraneanNight Series 2.03

12 Themes for Gnome 3.6.x and 3.8.x

* IMPORTANT *
- GTK2 theme uses gtk2-engines-murrine and gtk2-engines-pixbuf
- Inside the theme folder (MediterraneanNight) there is a readme.txt file with some really simple instructions to customize the theme (styles for nautilus, 4 tab styles, metacity buttons)
- Ubuntu 12.10 comes by default with gnome 3.6 and nautilus-3.4 (though you can upgrade to nautilus-3.6), but if you have nautilus-3.4, you must set the theme for nautilus-3.4, as explained in the readme.txt

- Almost all the themes are the same, varying between each of them only the color scheme and some bitmaps, which provides an opportunity for the more restless to create your own theme with few changes.

Take for example the series MediterraneanTribute

Known issues:
- qBitTorrent with MediterraneanGrayDark.

-------------------
* FEDORA 19 users *
-------------------
The default installation of the package gtk2-engines, not install you really need, which is this:
Murrine GTK2 engine
gtk-murrine-engine-0.98.2-3fc19

- MediterraneanNight also support nautilus-3.4. (see readme.txt)
---------------------------------
* Select style for nautilus *
---------------------------------
Edit the file ../MediterraneanNight/gtk-3.0/gtk.css

go to the last line of the file, there are seven options for nautilus:
Nautilus 3.6.x for gnome-shell 3.6.x and/or unity (by default)
@import url("nautilus36.css");

3 options for nautilus 3.4.x (gnome-shell)
1.- "gnome-nautilus34-gray.css" (nautilus sidebar and toolbar dark gray)
2.- "gnome-nautilus34-light.css" (nautilus sidebar and toolbar light)
3.- "gnome-nautilus34-gray-light.css" (nautilus sidebar dark gray and toolbar light)

3 options for nautilus 3.4.x (UNITY)
1.- "unity-nautilus34-gray.css"
2.- "unity-nautilus34-light.css"
3.- "unity-nautilus34-gray-light.css"

After over 11,000 downloads the first complaint of this.

It is more logical to think that something is wrong in your system?
It has tried to download the file with another browser?

Just download and unzip the file without any problem (5 mins ago)

I think what this excellent theme pack needs most at the moment is: having the same toolbar background in GTK2 apps (Synaptic, Medit, etc.) which also applies to Java apps (Jedit, etc.).

Just installed the latest opensuse 12.3 64-bit at work. Of course I installed this gtk3 theme and the associated engines. The moment I selected this theme in tweak-tool, Gnome 3.6 crashes. I set the them back to Adwaita and everything works again.

I have the exact same problem in opensuse 12.3 and this theme + the unico engine.

Report

Honestly I'm not sure that can be happening

Did you install the theme in /usr/share/themes?

It occurs when you select the gtk theme or metacity (window theme) ?

Report

Weird. I removed the gtk3-engine-unico package and the theme works and looks beautiful.

Well ... although the theme uses the 'GTK3-engine-unico', I think it can work without it.

But it would be good to find out because it gives the problem.

Aaaah, you don't make it easy for me ;).

With "MediterraneanNight" it was simple, there was no competition. But now you released another very beautiful theme with "Uncomplicated", although different, now I can't choose.

I especially like the consitency between tabs in Nautilus and the rest in "Uncomplicated".

I think "Uncomplicated" should be the default face of Gnome! I hope yur talent will be recognized and made "official".

I'm convinced that "Uncomplicated" as default GUI theme and "Faenza" as default icon theme would create so much goodwill for Gnome 3....

Thank you very much for appreciating my work. I hope to soon make the final version of 'Uncomplicated' and make it available to everyone who likes

I tested the Uncomplicated theme and it looks great and the nautilus tabs are highlighted in a more intuitive way. But your current theme used to look like this for me: http://i.imgur.com/1NIMQhn.png (it may be effect of the nautlis36.css on nautilus 3.4 tho...) the only problem with that was that the "highlighted" (the one that is on "Uncomplicated") tab was the darker one which is counterintuitive. If the colors are reversed that style would look just perfect.

PS: Please if you can let me know which .css I can modify to have the effect I want right now, I have no clue :(

Is there a way to disable the blue tabs? They don't look so good in empathy (look at the close buttons, the dark button on the dark blue tab has very poor contrast)

The problem of tabs close button, is that there are applications that use icon dependent icon theme, and other apps just draw an 'X' with the text color.

This produces a certain inconsistency in the appearance of the button to close tabs

I wonder, wouldn't it be better if the nautilus current tab had it's bottom or floor delineated in some way? Look at this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/14MCon9.png the '16' looks like a displaced element of the current folder instead of the name of it. Sometimes it can even get confused with other filenames. If you need me to explain it in spanish let me know.

do not worry, I understand perfectly :)

You can download the theme of the second link? (Uncomplicated-Beta)
A similar thing would be good?

off topic:
If you use one of these options (in gtk.css), nautilus 3.4 look better

3 options for nautilus 3.4.x (UNITY)
1.- "unity-nautilus34-gray.css"
2.- "unity-nautilus34-light.css"
3.- "unity-nautilus34-gray-light.css"

Sorry for the double post up there. It used to be alright before it just needed a little tweaking in the color of the tabs (the current tab was "highlighted" with a darker color than the ones that weren't) but both tabs had a background, although I don't know how much of that was due to me using the nautilus36.css once I'm home I will post a screenshot and review the uncomplicated theme.

Actually, messing up with the different nautilus options I found out a while back that the style my nautilus was using was a "not intended to be" but I actually do like it better than the others (I even suggested on one comment here that it should be one official style) :D so I stayed with it. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Hi,

1. The TributeBlue theme in XFCE doesn't look like the screenshot (the menu is still gray): http://tinypic.com/r/o72dlw/6

2. You left MediterraneanNigh-xfce-wide-border.tar.gz inside the MediterraneanNight folder. Not sure if it was intentional but I have installed it and the wide border looks very nice. May be make if official in next release?

In the screenshot, is selected as the theme for windows MDTributeBlue and gtk theme MDNight

You should select the same in both, windows theme (window manager) and gtk theme (appearance) MDTributeBlue

And yes, due to a bug in Xfce with the borders of one pixel also put the option of wide borders for all themes in Xfce, but for next update, I need a little more time.
I'm learning now how to work the Xfce windows themes

You are right, I mix different themes. Looking forward for the next update. And thanks for thinking about XFCE. I was a Gnome user a few months ago. But got annoyed by too much of the "modern" GUI gimmicks.

I have tested all Mediterranean themes + various Windows borders. The best combination I like so far is MediterraneanNightDarkest + BlueBird:
http://tinypic.com/r/jtscd1/6

(Please note: to read better, I need to improve the contrast, I have changed the font color to black by editing the /usr/share/themes/MediterraneanNightDarkest/gtk-2.0/gtkrc)
