I know many kde folks like the light blue background but it's really hard on my eyes.

How about a dark blue or a dark green? Perhaps even s/slackware/linux/ or redhat/mandrake/debian, etc?

Yeah it's a nice wallpaper, but perhaps TheMadPenguin should mention that it is from Sunshine Live, a famous radio station from Germany... (http://www.sunshine-live.de)
