Description:

This is number 4 of my anti-ms-campaign comics. Hope you like it.

This time its based on all those news about the imac hack to get my "favourite" operating system running on the new intel based hardware. Maybe someone can use it oh his desktop. It would be awesome to see some screenshots when you are actually using this wallpaper on your desktop. I also love to read comments. Does somebody like to have a two-screen version of the wallpaper? Have fun!

Technically, you can't. Although there are a few people who have actually made (GNU/)Linux work on Intel Macs, there are, to my knowledge, no distributions that officially (if at all) support the Intel Mac architecture. The main reason for this is the fact that they don't actually have a BIOS like a PC, look in to Intel Macs for more details on this. So obviously, until an actual distro supporting the Intel Mac comes out, or a distro adds Intel Mac support, you'd probably want to hold off for a bit until you find a distro that you like that also supports the Intel Mac architecture, unless you like having shiny things like an Intel Mac lying around...

Gentoo seems to be pretty comfortable with them, I don't have one myself but there are several forum threads at the Gentoo forums asking for (and promptly receiving) help. It seems to run with no major problems, as I believe fixes for backlight and fan settings have propagated out. You still have to install stuff like pbuttonsd to enable the function keys, but that's hardly any more than you have to do on any laptop.

Hi there!
Apple uses the new Intel Core Duo and EFI which is not compatible with x86 Bios :(

And actually you can run Linux on those new Intel iMacs. I know for shure that Knoppix runs on the new Apple computers because I've written an article about it (http://www.pro-linux.de/news/2006/9333.html)
I'm afraid it's in german :)
Please keep in mind that this is now forum for hardware or software help.
Send me an email if you want to know how to run Linux on those machines.
