Description:

This is a close-up shot of the screen on a Unitrex 801D pocket calculator. The calculator is quite old (I happened across it in a thrift shop), but I couldn't find very much information about it on the Internet. (If anyone knows its history, please let me know in the comments.)
The display technology, VFD, has not been used for calculators in quite a while, due to the power requirements and size... but they look cool.
Please do check out the full-resolution image, as most of the detail is lost in the preview.

They're called "Nixie" tubes. Here's a link to the article in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nixie_tube

Shit! My bad. VFD was the successor to Nixie technology.

I didn't actually know that, but it makes sense. Thanks! In regards to my request, I was actually referring to the calculator itself, not the display technology.
