Description:

These are a few pictures depicting a soldier's perspective of recent experiences in Iraq. I'm not trying to take a position or spark a debate on the war or anything, I just want to share some of my most memorable images that show a bit of what it was like to be there.

This is not all about patriotism. That is not the purpose of this submission. It is the visceral aesthetics of these shots that made me want to put them out there. I've been told they should be published. Since this is likely the only publication they will ever see, please give them a chance based on their artistic merit. That's what I like about them.

Les ricains, vous commencez à nous les briser menues menues avec :

1) soit la tronche de vos soldats à la con qui se sauvent en appelant leurs mères dès qu'ils sont en face d'une véritable armée.

2) Votre bannière publicitaire au look coca-cola aux graphismes mal faits (voir un autre fil rss)

"All text must be in English" - at least if you want someone to understand what you are writing. And I think the pictures are quite interesting.

I tried translating this from French to English using Google and this is what I got:


The yankees, you start with us to break them small small with:

1. that is to say the mug of your soldiers to the idiot who run away themselves by calling their mothers as soon as they are opposite a true army.

2. Your advertising banner with the look Coke with badly made graphics (see another wire rss)

The site of Kde-look is not made for that: you upset everyone!



Everyone's entitled to their opinion. The flame comment was unnecessary tho, as are the bad coments about these pictures. Can't we just apreciate the art, and limit ourselves to constructive criticism? Obviously our French friend is confusing this website with a political activism website. I like the photos by the way.

Fermez-vous lâche français. Disparaissent le poteau sur un emplacement politique.

Whoever you are Kindred7 your photos viewed on an artistic angle are very good,there message is very clear, in a way, to have them displayed as wallpaper on a PC they will be viewed by more people then if they were displayed in a gallery Well Done !!

Regardless of how they got there or why they are there, these guys have seen more bravery, brotherhood and horror than any of us could imagine. Thanks for the shots...God Bless these guys. Oh NO...patriotism and God mentioned at one time. The sky will most certainly fall now.

unsure what to think ... I despise the patriotic elements ... hm... the pics are very intimate though; especially the last one with the hand-closeup.
Whatever I'm going to think about the whole thing sooner or later: Pics like these do not belong to a website dedicated for desktop styles. No offence.

You despise the patriotic elements? Since when has neutral pictures of soldiers been "patriotic"? And since when has patriotism been something bad? Anything in excess can be bad, but patriotism in moderation is a good quality.

If a mere picture of a soldier is going to offend your sensibilities, it's time to grow a thicker skin.

I think the last picture _could_ be interpreted as making a "V for Victory" in the sand. That's probably the bit which was interpreted as patriotic... but only because the submitter told us the backstory of the photos.

Here's an thought. If the submitter really thinks that these pictures stand on their own aesthetic qualities, perhaps putting them together and mentioning where they came from is a bad idea? Why would you have to tell people "don't think about them like this"? The third one, and arguably the first one as well, are hard to read into too much without the backstory, especially when viewed individually.

There is no backstory. The pictures were taken in Iraq. That's all I said. The soldiers were not in combat or any battles. I know. I was there. The hand was an Iraqi's, not an American's. He was showing the markings in the stone. It is not a V and not for victory. But believe what you want.
The resason I felt the need to explain the purpose of the pictures was in response to the first post. Just for clarification.
