I had nothing better to do, so I created a very quick and clean wallpaper for myself. This was created with Maya + GIMP. If you are interested I have other (k)ubuntu wallpapers on my website. Please follow this link here: http://rmorg.org/random/ubuntuLogo/

1.1 -- Uploaded a second image that does not have any text behind the glass. Unfortunatly I had overwritten the file that had all the light settings for the first image, so I had to start over with a few things. The camera is slightly moved and the colors are a little off of the first image. I may continue to make a few more variations as I do like the way the caustics look in the second image.
1.2 -- I found the scene file I was looking for on my laptop so I was able to render another image out that looks almost like the original without the text. I am going to take the previous image off and place it on my website only. You can go here: http://rmorg.org/random/ubuntuLogo/ if you would like to download any other versions of wallpaper I have created.
1.3 -- I uploaded a text version in widescreen format (1920x1200) and have also added one more style with a debian logo in the back instead of ubuntu text.
1.4 -- Added the other two 1920x1600 versions.

I would like to know if you ever did make a logo with no background.
Also, any possibility of a tutorial?
