So i had written that i've changed the style to look as the old non-cairo version, since me and other gnome devs thought that was a lot better.
Simply you don't like probably because you have played with nicer engines like murrine etc etc

It was reason, I liked Clearlooks.
Now it looks... ugly.
PS: I dislike Murrine because it was causing many problems with GTK apps and it was slowing down my GNOME.

If you had problems with some application is because you haven't instaled theme as root, try a sudo ln -sf ~/.themes /root/.themes
Clearlooks Cairo version was buggied, it hasn't dark theme support and controls were too contrasted

Too contrasted? I liked them...
And i don't use dark themes.
We need option for gtkrc which can restore Cairo's look.

And it will look like before?
[[ For example a guy wrote me that murrine was buggied and he was wrong since he was not using murrine but aqualooks!!! wich is A LOT buggied ]]
Aqualooks looks 'quite' good. Taskbar in this 'engine' looks like piece of dog shit. Additionally, it is causing crashes of GNOME panel
[[ No crashes btw... the only crash in murrine was on brasero, murrine 0.40 version, but i've released 0.40.1 to fix that bug.
the murrine code is almost similar to clearlooks (i'm clearlooks and murrine developer) so if you are finding bugs you have probably done a mistake on your pc. ]]
Done mistake? I have selected a Murrine-based theme (it was early Edgy Eft) and then I musted to change theme using GConf-Editor, because Murrine was causing, that GNOME Theme Manager was unable to start.

If you want more contrast you can open the gtkrc of your theme and under engine "clearlooks" improve contrast, set contrast = 1.5 to have more contrast
