global keyboard shortcuts to control volume (idea)
Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements

The global shorcuts keys are a very useful way to perform actions which should works independently of the running application.
At this moment kde lacks the possibility to define new global shorcuts, like for example the volume control. In many situations the volume controls are not very fast (click over the kmix icon, click over the volume slider and pull it down until the volume is ok, click away to make the slider disappear).
I wish to assign the keypad +/- keys the volume control. An OSD bar should inform about the volume status.
That's what actually happens with gnome).

As I said I just wrote this today so it isn't very polished. Right now the OSD is a plain progress bar, but I plan on improving it in the future.

BTW, warrob: the procedure of adjusting the sound isn't that complicated as you described: just put your cursor over the kmix symbol in kicker and turn the mouse wheel - no clicks needed.

But KMix, as anyother KDE application, has global shortcuts. Look at the picture:

Maybe this helps you! At least now you can increase or decrease your sound with +/- buttons :)

I really missed the kmix global shortcuts features!
It works great. But I agree that a volum bar should appear.
Thanks!
