Concept: Modern Desktop
Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work): Add the source-code for this project on opencode.net
This is just a concept for a desktop. The screen shot is pretty self explanatory. There would be a section in KControl to modify all the headers and look'n feel, etc, etc. Also, when you click the headings, the icons beneath it would disappear to un-clutter the desktop. What do you think? All feedback/critisim/ideas welcome and could maybe help the KDE Developers.
If you're gonna vote bad, please take the time to say why. Thanks!

Do a google for Mezzo desktop or SymphonyOS ... it's remarkably similar to what you have here, except for the menu ...

The idea to have everything just a click away is nice, but I haven't found a good solution yet.

I've been thinking of this a long time now, but since I suck at KDE/Qt-programming I haven't done anything about it...
It would be greate if that entire ... um ... thing... could be pushed away just like a kicker.
Greate job!!

Interesting idea. Personally, I think desktop icons are evil ;-) but for those who chose to use them, I can see where this idea could come in quite handy.
I'd like to see this idea added to the KMenu, since the KMenu versions are less than optimal. :-/

I currently only have one icon on my desktop and it's for the Lemmings clone Pingus and I'm not sure why it's still there as I moved it to Kicker also. The only other things that pop up are the autodetected device icons like my memory stick.
I think that it would be cool if it could be something similiar to OSX Dashboard without the widgets, maybe another virtual layer. This could be where Plasma comes in.

Along somewhat similar lines, but with a more definite concept, there is the Mezzo Desktop ( www.symphonyos.com/mezzo.html ) being developed by SymphonyOS (Linux). It has nothing to do with KDE, but it could theoretically.
