News: ONLY A NEWS UPDATE
========================================
If you are using or used or care about KBFX , We are sure, you are wondering about the progress KBFX. We haven't forgotten you or the project. We will add some most requested features to KBFX
and 100's of bug fixes reported on our bug tracker and release KBFX for KDE3 as soon as we can,

For KDE4 we will use the Raptor-menu Menu engine, the interface nookie has designed this time is really a NextGen, unbeatable and breath taking. so stay tuned for that. so we will fist finish raptor menu engine (http://www.raptor-menu.org) then move on to KBFX for KDE4.

We are also doing PlexyDesk, I'll add a project entry after I make this posting . PlexyDesk is a
modular desktop render. PlexyDesk will introduce a new and an effective way to use your desktop, yet keep the classic metaphor intact.visit us at http://www.plexydesk.org or #plexydesk at
freenode , we would like to hear from you

Thank you.

===========================================================
KBFX is an alternative to the classical K-Menu button and it's menu.
It improves the user experience by enabling the user to set a bigger (and thus more visible) start button and by finally replacing the Win95-like K-Menu.
But if you still want the old menu, because you're used to it, it is still available as an option in KBFX.
We recommend, however, that you give the Spinx bar a try.
===========================================================

===========================================================
Hi all,
KBFX now has been moved to KDE Extragear.
Expect a lot more new features in our next release for KDE3.
In the meantime we are coding KBFX for KDE4 too, so we are a bit busy now.
But that DOES NOT mean that we won't support you and the KDE3 version.
Very soon we will implement the keyboard shortcuts support in KBFX....
Just stay tuned ;)

Love you all ;) :-*

"KBFX Silk" (0.4.9.3.1)
===========================================================

Hello everyone,

After a long silence from us now we are happy to announce that finally the
stable release of KBFX is ready.
We made a lot of changes to the KBFX Configurator and to KBFX Menu itself.
However we were not able to implement everything you proposed and everything we
wanted. So some of the features (see the TODO list in the source files)
in "KBFX Silk" (0.4.9.3.1) are still not ready. We are sure that they will
present in the next stable release which will be due just after KDE4 is
released. The menu itself, however, is fully functional.

Thanks to all of you who gave us ideas and who tested the prerelease versions of
KBFX.

When you download and install this version you may report the found bugs at
http://bugs.kbfx.net or in an email to phobosk(at)mail.kbfx.net

We wait for your opinion and reports.

Take a look at the renewed sections "How To?" of kbfx.net:
http://www.kbfx.net/staticpages/index.php?page=20060224123135907

We advise all the KBFX theme authors to have a look at the article "How to
create themes for 0.4.9.3" at http://www.kbfx.net/staticpages/index.php?page=howto0493
in order to transform their themes from the old format to the new one ;)
And look at all the documents in the doc folder of the sources.
For additional help on install see here:
http://websvn.kde.org/branches/extragear/kde3/addons/kbfx/doc/INSTALL?view=markup

All the best from your KBFX Team. :)

P.S. Soon we will release the highest rated on Kde-Look KBFX themes as a package containing 20 themes. We just wait for their authors to transform them into the new theme specs.

Note: Things to be considered before installing "KBFX Silk"
===========================================================

1.) To configure and compile "KBFX Silk" you need Cmake >= 2.4.2 from http://www.cmake.org

2.) To configure, compile and install "KBFX Silk" simply run ./build.sh

3.) Before the install of "KBFX Silk", please unload and uninstall any previous version of KBFX.

4.) After the install of "KBFX Silk" please relogin KDE.

5.) If you need file searching capabilities in KBFX, please download and install Strigi
from http://strigi.sf.net

6.) To enable Strigi support in KBFX, please pass "--strigi" OR "-s" option to build.sh
i.e: ./build.sh --strigi

************WARNINIG************

The Skin Spec for KBFX Silk has undergone radical changes!
Many of the themes on kde-look.org might not work!
We encourage theme authors to update their skins or make new ones.
For help on that see here:
http://www.kbfx.net/staticpages/index.php?page=howto0493

Thank you.

It looks nice, in what I see the largest advantage. Also can help with navigation while searching for apps, of course...

But anyway, let's rememind unexperienced users, that for everyday use, there are much better options how to create menu(s) in KDE. You can have separate multiple menus in your panel - i.e. Multimedia, Graphics, Utilities, etc.
That's much faster, as you can access your favourite apps just with 2 clicks...

I untar the package, cd to directory, type ./configure and I do get this error:

configure: error: cannot find sources (acinclude.m4) in . or ..

Any ideas?
I'd really like to use kbfx...

OK, I did but it still does not work...I get several recursive errors, something is installed, but when I try to add it to my kicker I get the error: "The mini program Spinx couldn't be load. Please check your installation!"

After that I tried to build it from a spec, but to compile it needs xorg-x11-devel; Under FC5 there no longer exists this devel-package...

A bug? Even the .i386 package does not work...

I hope you have an idea?
Still using FC5 x86_64, KDE 3.5.2, all packages with devel installed.

I don't know what is wrong...
In my debian I just had to execute
make -f Makefile.cvs before the configure!
the compilation didn't have problems...
It seems to be a error with you devel software!
anyway try to compile the source from cvs (www.kbfx.org)...
maybe this bug is fixed...

Hi,
I use a tiny kicker size, so i had to scale the button images with an image editor, but this is a little complicated.
I wish, kbfx could scale the button images by itself while using different kicker heights.

The user image isn't shown in the tooltip, despite creating a .face.icon. Is there any solution?

yes..I can see ur disapointment..
we will not have that problem. any more..

our new package manager is really. Really good.
And he did NOT pack 0.4.9 . now from release 0.4.9.2 on. PhobosK will make releases. And I can promises u that he will
pack things to run out of the box..

well. there is no reason why u should feel sad..bcos making a change is just a matter
of sending me an email?... I to date I have
replied for 786 emails regarding KBFX.
and i didn’t turn a single request down.
as I'm the only developer at the moment working on kbfx, some times it's hard to make changes over night....

if u make a proper feature request to me.. And not make public Fuss over it.
there is no reason I will not implement it!.

KBFX so far ( if u note) is made of Users needs(if u compare each of the comments on the forum. and of kbfx forum.
I and ur team have tried our level best to add each of those features as time permits.( remember I or any one in KBFX team don't get paid for KBFX from no one!).

and your comments are no exception to me!

I remember that u are using mandi cooker.
and u had problems adding entries. good thing is that PhobosK has Mandi BOX
and we were working on this computer
to fix the bug.
.(it's that Mandi distro has hacked KDE and changed how it works)

now. this discriminating comment made by our comes at a time when we are actually working on the
Feature request that YOU have made. and I was
just shocked ? . .Nookie well his temper went over the Moon as u can see!

Bye..

granted. And I did not say thanx... I can now honestly say from the bottom of my heart you guys did a great job, I think kbfx is a great app and makes KDE so much more enjoyable to use. I definitely could not do myself what you have done with kbfx. Congratulations on a great release.

You know its because I love this application and admire your guts why I even commented. My remarks were not meant to hurt feelings but to express my personal disappointment. I wanted you to succeed so much, do you understand?

Bad. Its beautiful and all but the eye-candy seems to have being too tempting or distracting and the result is a kbfxspinx that does not work for me or I guess a good many others.

Because kbfxspinx does not populate the kbfx menu I had to resort to letting it use KMenu menus. Why did I bother to install if I then have to partially disable it?

The install was unconventional and in bad form, installing stuff on /usr root. Why did they not use kdevelop for eg. so ./configure, make, make install would work right away?

The kbfx configurator uses an unusual window that departs from norm by not having a close button... that may look cute but its an annoying departure from norm.

By releasing an essentially broken package I think you have hurt your credibility... I wont immediately install your future releases as I used to, as I recall kbfx used to just work but not kbfxspinx.

Well.... First of all if you dont like it then don't use it. Why bother to complain..

We have spend several months of hard work and you can not say thanx anyway for you work..

If you are so damn smart why don't you make a program and then i will look at it and then give you my comments.

Stop be such asholes and try to come with positive criticts or just say in a nice way what should be changed or improved.

Sounds like a good idea. But the files you put out for download are crippled for most of us. I'm not going to downgrade automake just so I can build your program. Every other program I have had to build here has been no problem. So, is it just that you want to be obscure and out of touch? Or would you like for people to actually use this?

please add this patch to kbfx 0.4.9.1 so that slackware, arch, frugalware linux flavors could compile kbfx.

the patch is here:
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/kdestyle-linspireclear/kdestyle-linspireclear/automake_patch.diff

usage:
------
cd kbfx-0.4.9.1
