Sorry I do not know how to capture the kdm login screen. If anyone could let me know it would be greatly appreciated.

I am very pleased with debian-steel login screen.

I do have a problem that many others probably also have. Just before debian-steel login appears, there is this (sorry) horrendously ugly blue-globes-with-things-sticking-out KDE wallpaper that shows for about four seconds. Then it shows again briefly just before my own chosen desktop wallpaper shows up, after logging in, which makes me think it's a default wallpaper somewhere.

Can anybody help me find it and destroy it forever and ever? (And I'm sorry if I hurt the feelings of its designer--I imagine the same person has done some very good designs.)

If you have it there is a spot in the KDE control center called "Login Manager" under the "System Administration" tab. Go into "Administrative Mode" by clicking the button at the bottom of the "Login Manger" window.

Now you can click the Background tab at the top. Here is where the picture and or color is coming from. You can tell it to use a picture then point to the same pic you use as your desktop background. Then change the background color to one that goes with your theme.

Thank you, tide. At the moment I'm back to using just IceWM and no desktop environment per se, but I'm saving your response for future reference. Much appreciated tip!

I've did this once with Xnest. But at the moment my Xnest doesn't work propper. So you can test Xnest.

KDM looks great, my only suggestion would be to move the input area to the black part of the screen so as not to block the Debian logo...but honestly, the flow from KDM to Splash to Wallpaper is fantastic!
