Description:

This is my first Gnome icon theme. It's based on mattahan's great icon set, GANT.
I tried to fit in as much as possible, hunting down all of mattahans' releases and combining them into one.

Some icons might be missing for one of two reasons. They may not exist, as big as the GANT set is
some icons are still lacking. Another reason is that I might have overlooked it. If the reason an icon is
missing is due to me, please let me know.

I would like to thank mattahan for his permission.

I hope that you will like this theme as much as I do.

gnome-mime-text-x-chdr
gnome-mime-text-x-csrc

Filetype: .bak files

in gperfection it's 48x48 and 24x24 mimetypes

:) thanks... i;ve been working to get this one going for quite some time.. i even put a .bak in my icon folder that says "this dont work..."

gona see if this does the trick now

garGANTuan is really an excellent icon theme and fits in *perfectly* with the rest of my desktop =) The only thing I complain about is the icon for .torrent-files. At the moment their icons just don't fit, and are rather difficult to distinguish from f.ex. compressed files.

yah.... mattahan did not make a torrent "file dealie" this time around.. so i had to improvise...

I just applied gargantuan 1.6 as my icon theme and noticed that my back & forward buttons in nautilus aren't using the theme's icons. Is there a fix for this?

yes! :) read the DONT README file in the folder

put the folder called "icons" in your themes gtk directory

and in your "gtkrc" file put

include "icons/iconrc"

then refresh the theme and done

Is it just me or is the DA link broken? It doesn't even work after I rename it to gargantuan.tar.bz2 :(

Hi, just wanted to say that your work is very apreciated :-) this icon theme with gorilla is perfect!

I'm using ubuntu 5.04 and I noticed some (small) "issues" in an otherwise excellent theme:
- There is no icon named synaptic (the "gnome-other.png" works very well for it)
- Is there an icon for "Shared folders" (share-admin)? (is it supposed to be samba.png or gnome-fs-nfs.png?)
- "Time and Date" (there is a time.png in the folder only it doesn't get applied to the menu icon... and neither does users.png to "Users and Groups")
- Also gdm.png should be gdm-setup.png (at least in my case)

Anyway I don't want to soud overly critical ;-) It is the best icon theme for gnome IMHO!

OH another thing,,, i dunno what those shared ones look like normally... so maybe you can show me or something... is there one in gperfection2...

yes i agree with you... some icons never show up for me either.. for example a lot of icons under "System Tools"

i have no idea how to fix it... i'll look into the others :)

I would suggest you remove all seizes under 128x128. If all you are doing it scaling them down in GIMP without any added pixel work, then you are just mimicking GNOMES behaviour and upping the icon set's size 6-8 fold.

Let GNOME scale it down for you.

oh yah! no pixel work at all... thats what the next release is gona be... i see no reason to keep them.

As long as you have the icons in the largest size possible (nothing will use 128x128 or any size bigger), then you dont need one single icon of any size underneath it.

If you gotta scale higher (IE: 24x24 to 48x48), it will look like crap. If you are always scaling down (IE: 48x48 to 24x24), then thats fine.

Dont waste space by adding anything under 128x128 unless you are going to do more than just open up GIMP and hit scale image because GNOME will do that for you, and at no extra charge ;)

Keep making your theme complete. The GANT set has thousands of icons, you can certainly pack everything into it.

If you need guidance feel free to take a look at my set to fill in anything you might have missed. Take a look at the 48x48 directory (unless you want to reference the gtk folder, look at the 24x24 directory for that) as it is by far the most complete.

Keep at it and great work so far. GNOME needs aesthetic boosts.

oh thanks a lot! i deffenitly need some help here and there.

There are a lot of GANT icons but some are missing like for example icons for sxw.. and such... so i am having to improvise here and there...

and I like the way you did your stocks folder, it's very well arranged... mine is just jumbled up... gona have to work on that i guess

also how do i find out the names... for for example the wireless link monitor applet under "add to panel" and also the little gtk star...

I am gona have to take a further look in you 24x24 folder

Most of the icons I did by basically the seat of my pants. I would simply try and hunt down the icon that was being used.

I would suggest using mine as a template and overwriting the icons you have so far and then simply overwriting each icon you have left with your own from the GANT theme...that would be the easiest and most precise way.

Guides and tutorials are few and far apart. I had some help from people in the community who were really nice in ironning out a lot of icons that needed to be either changed or fixed.

My best advice is to use mine as a template as mentionned above. It should cover pretty much anything.

The hardest part sometimes is when an icon is "hardcoded" to a specific place and unable to be themed without altering the .desktop file...

In my opinion these should be condemned and the author of the program should fix them to point simply to a .png file (GIMP is one for example).

Great set and getting better with each release!

Things I notice with 1.4:
* Gimp and Abiword icons don't work. Also, is there anything suitable for Gnumeric in the collection? Not sure on the required icon names, sorry.
* The apps section is missing the four network status applet icons.

about the gimp... i put tons of icons... be it:

gnome-gimp
gimp
gimp-blah blah

none take it...

i'll look into the others :D

GIMP's icon is "harcoded". It is actually specifically specified in the .desktop file. There is nothing you can do with your set, you are going to have to modify the actual .desktop file to get a custom icon.

Maybe email the GIMP crew and tell them to change it in the .desktop file so it points to an icon that can be changed by the theme.

oh, I thought you got them in 24's....so nevermind if you are just scaling down. GIB will do that for ya, nice and quick. I had not looked at them in great detail til now. Should have before I said something.
