Description:

I made this from "official" artwork from Ubuntu. the coded bits come from the "Dark Grey Ubuntu GFXBoot Theme" also available on gnome-look.org.
I made the preview in Gimp.. very quickly, the text and logo on the actual theme are properly blended.

I like them very much, but my laptop's widescreen doesn't. :-)
Could you please provide a widescreen-variant, i.e. with a resolution of 1280*800px? Thank you very much!

lol, you shouldn't say "shamelessly pilfered", the whole idea of open source is being free to pilfer proudly. In any case, I'm glad you made this.. a GRUB screen was probably the only thing missing from my wallpaper collection. oh, and yeah you can get the source and original HR files for the walls here in case you need them:

"a GRUB screen was probably the only thing missing from my wallpaper collection"

thats why I made it , I have the gdm, usplash, and wallpape and I wanted the gfxboot to match.

The only thing we are missing is a decent gnome-splash to go with the rest. the one I made is not up to par unfortunately.

I don't really use the gnome splashes, but I'll see if I can make one if only of sake of completion. I'm trying to work now on novel concepts rather than remixes, so I'm not sure when I'd get to it.

How are we supposed to use this? I googled how to install a grub splash image and the guide I found uses xpm files, like the package grub-splashimages does.

Little help please?

He never said it was a GRUB splash, but a "GfxBoot" one. You'll need to get rid of standard GRUB first and then install GfxBoot in its place. Then instead of files with the ".xpm.gz" extension, you'll be using splashes with the "message." prefix.
