Thank you very much for your application. I have been looking for something similar to the Windows app "Subtitle Workshop" for Linux, and finally I have found it. It has less options than the Subtitle Workshop, but I hope that you can be adding them.

For kubuntu installation:
http://divilinux.wordpress.com/2007/11/15/subtitle-composer

In the last step you can to use "$ sudo make install" or "$ checkinstall" to generate deb package.

Run subtitlecomposer from console.
Thanks again.

being a (not necesarily a 1 to 1) replacement for Subtitle Workshop is kind of the stated goal (improving it would be nice too, but that's a mid term goal as i'm a bit behind ATM :-)
(to anyone interested) what are the features that you most use when editing subtitles with other programs and miss on subtitle composer?

Thank you so much! By the way, on Kubuntu 7.10 bootstrap.sh returns

*** YOU'RE USING automake (GNU automake) 1.10.
*** KDE requires automake 1.6.1 or newer
make[1]: *** [cvs] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

I had to temporarily remove the latest automake in order to generate the configure script.

Could you add some configurable keyboard shortcuts for Show and Hide times, as well as for controlling video playback (play, pause, step back)? Thanks once again for taking the time to develop Subtitle Composer.

play and pause are already configurable actions (go to Settings->Edit Shortcuts). not sure what "step back" should do (go back a few seconds? previous line?) what exactly were you thinking?
about the automake issue, i'm not sure what the problem is but i'll release the generated configure script next time just in case.

Everything okay but one simple thing: I can't hide the Video Player or the Waveform.
