Description:

A KDE ioslave and sidebar that lets you create and burn CDs or DVDs from Konqueror.

(Used to be called kio_burn)

This software depends on K3b 0.12.x. I recommend you use 0.12.14 or greater if possible.

i get

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ldbus-qt-1

trying to compile. can't find it anywhere, how do i install it?

Is this from compiling the burn-0.8.1 package or K3b? The burn package should not produce this message. I think K3b can compile without dbus by using configure --without-hal, but you will get better functionaility if you install dbus, dbus-qt and hal libraries and headers.

The burn package should not produce this message Oops, sorry, it will if you have K3b installed with hal but not the hal development files. So yes, probably the best thing to do is install libhal-dev

You need dbus with qt3 bindings. Most distros call this either dbus-qt-1-devel, dbus-devel, libdbus-1-devel, or something like this. Dbus is a fairly new technology, so mostly new (2005+) distros should have it.

It does detect my burner, but in the next window it is not possible to continue, all buttons (select data or audio, continue) are greyed out and inactive...is there any solution???

Raoul, I tried your version but it gives an error message "In-and output module error: protocol 'burn' not found" and with the next start the icon is lost as well as the menu entry

It does not detect my CD-Burner. (but K3B does)

Same here. Select device list is empty :-(
Otherwise, this was a much needed KDE improvement. I hope I can get it working.

For people having problems, version 0.7 should be able to detect your CD device via k3b. In debian, you'll need to install kio_burn from source I'm afraid. The process should be roughly:

$ apt-get install k3blibs k3blibs-dev
$ bzcat burn-0.7.tar.bz2 | tar xv
$ cd burn-0.7
$ ./configure
$ make
$ su -c "make install"

Really cool but one problem:

burn:/ should be virtual, so when you copy file to burn:/Data, file must not be copied(like nautilus-cd-burner).

i agree! it should be virtual. that way it doesn't consume too much space. :)

But how you you handle data from slow or removeable medias?
In this case there should be a copy instead of a link.

This is really cool. (However, I wasn't able to blank RW-discs.)

Are there already plans to integrate this into the default KDE distribution?

A note on the bugfixes:

The very first version of 0.6.1 that I uploaded was a slightly broken version of the source code. I had attempted to fix a bug that sometimes left decoded audio files in your home directory (under ~/.kde/share/apps/kio_burn/decode). If you downloaded the program in the first twenty minutes or so since it was posted here you might want to check that directory to see if it is getting filled up with large audio files. The source code that's online now should fix this, but let me know, here or by email, if you're still having problems.

All I can say is "whoops"! Sorry about that.

Now, this project was started in July. Makes you wonder why the Gnome guys are so slow implementing the same thing. Last time I looked, it was still half done.

This is what i call "easy burning".

Windows XP has somekind (working? not in my PC :-() burning "built-in" software and NERO. Today i found better burning software to XP than its own, "Cheetah burner" for normal files.

BUT! In windows its still "slow" and "not so easy" job burn files&music.

NOW for KDE..
We have K3B (Nero killer) and now we have kio_burn, XP (&Cheetah) burner killer! And burning is like a !!! (no words to say it :-D)

VERY GREAT JOB GUYS!!!
