Geramik *and* ThinGeramik GTK Themes

GTK1 Themes

Description:

GTK theme *and* engine intended to make GTK applications have a similar look
to the Keramik KDE style.

The theme, and pixmaps within, are based upon the alpha release of Keramik_GTK
by Goamaus. However, most pixmaps have been re-created, and/or modified.

Geramik requires QtPixmap >=0.26 (QtPixmap is no longer included in the Geramik archive. Get QtPixmap from http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7043)

Screenshot 2 is of Mandrake's diskdrake - showing the recolouring of buttons.

To install:

tar zxvf Geramik-0.23.tar.gz
cd Geramik-0.23
./configure
make
make install (as root)

...then copy /usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc

...or for GTK2, copy
/usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk-2.0/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc-2.0

Well, thanks for the explanation!

I really think your work is great. I'll download QtCurve immediately on release. You should get paid for this!

It would be very nice too.
Other Aqua-like GTK themes are good, but their coherence with KDE is not as perfect as Geramik.

But anyway, you have allready done a so good work, that I should be ashamed to ask you for that.

Merci encore.

...I have though of this. Basically it could be a pixmap theme using the same engine as Geramik, and therefore would follow KDE's colour scheme. 2 problems though; a. Liquid's combo-boxes use two colours (this would make it slightly more difficult to recolour - bot not impossible), b. Liquid uses an arrow to indicate the default button (which i presonally don't like), and I don't think I could do this with a pixmap based GTK theme.

Anyway, once I've completed a modified Blue/Freecurve, and Liquid 0.9.6 final is released - then I may give it a go. However, don't hold your breath I've lots of other things that need doing...

I am using Mandrake 9.0, but ./configure is not locating GTK+ 1.2 and 2.0. Is there anything I can do to help him locate this files? BTW, I do have the devel packages for GTK+.
And the cooker RPM does not work anymore (maybe because of the texstar packages I have on my system: maybe...) Any tips?

Using Mandrake 9.0

Geramik works fine in Gimp 1.2, and most gtk 1.x apps.

However it doesn't show up in gtk 2.0 apps such as gFTP and PAN when running KDE 3.x.

If I switch to GNOME instead of KDE3 these apps show the Geramik theme just fine, so I know the configuration is ok.

It seems like one of the libs is not loading. Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks.

...well I'm using this, and it works fine for me.

Which versions are you having trouble with? Did you copy /usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk-2.0/gtkrc to ~/.gtkrc-2.0 ?

Report

opjose

Yes as I mentioned it works FINE with GNOME but not KDE3 with GTK2 applications.

The ~/.gtkrc-2.0 works just fine under GNOME.

It doesn't work under KDE3 for apps such as gFTP and PAN, etc.

Those same apps show the them when I load up GNOME instead.

So it's a LIB problem. But which one and how to fix?

Thanks.

.18 rocks. I really hope some big distros like SuSe will include it, it would make KDE/GNOME ook more consistent. Great job on this!

The menu backgrounds really made a difference for this theme, it's really made a difference.

It's those little corner of your eye things that make the theme so indistinguishable at this point, it's exceptional. :)

how on earth do i use xft2 with gtk1? gdk-pixbuf won't compile for me (MDK 9) anyhelp? i wnat antialiased gtk1 apps like gimp

Use GIMP 1.3.10 (Gtk2)

It's beta, but it's already pretty stable (hasn't crashed on my system since the installation) and the new features + AA-ed fonts + the improved Gtk (2) + colored icons are all worth it :)

AFAIK, GTK1.x doesn't support XFt (and henve AA'ed fonts). There is a hack of GTK1 somewhere that adds support for Xft - but I'm not sure how good/stable this is. Your best bet is just to wait for all apps to be ported to GTK2 (its 1000000% better than GTK1)

Is there any possibility of having the background colors for menus and context menus match the KDE color scheme? The plain gray is the last difference that really stands out for me. Thanks for the excellent work, BTW.

Report

I probably wasn't specific enough. I'm using GTK1/2 apps and the menus look a little less "bright" than the KDE 3.0x menus. Not really sure if this is because Geramik is designed for KDE 3.1, if it's a bug, or if it's just my eyes. But I swear they look drab in comparison.

Report

C

For GTK1 apps they should match (the colour used is a lighter version of the background colour). But for GTK2 the menu colour will be darker - it'll be the same as the background colour. I've tried to fix this, but found no way to do this yet. And I thouhgt that the match was close enough that it didn't really matter.

Not a big deal. Mostly I'm glad to have confirmation that it isn't just my imagination. The fact that it's the *only* thing I notice and that it's such a small thing should be taken as a huge compliment. You've done some wonderful work.

(I like that, btw)

Yeah I know, 14 releases in about 26 days is perhaps a little too much. I think I'm gonna wait at least a week before the next one - unless someone mentions a critical bug.

The only real thing left to do is set the default colour scheme to KDE3.1's default. (So that a user's KDE and GTK apps automatically look the same).

...hmmm, couly you (vi private email) send me your ~/.qt/qtrc file? The arrows should have the same colour as the text - i.e. in this screenshot black.

Did you do a complete re-install? Of the theme *and* engine? The theme now has white arrows - which will then be coulred to match the text colour. So if you don't also update the engine you'll get white arrows.

Might be, but they look awful with a bright colour scheme.
