Geramik *and* ThinGeramik GTK Themes

GTK1 Themes

5.0
Description:

GTK theme *and* engine intended to make GTK applications have a similar look
to the Keramik KDE style.

The theme, and pixmaps within, are based upon the alpha release of Keramik_GTK
by Goamaus. However, most pixmaps have been re-created, and/or modified.

Geramik requires QtPixmap >=0.26 (QtPixmap is no longer included in the Geramik archive. Get QtPixmap from http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7043)

Screenshot 2 is of Mandrake's diskdrake - showing the recolouring of buttons.

To install:

tar zxvf Geramik-0.23.tar.gz
cd Geramik-0.23
./configure
make
make install (as root)

...then copy /usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc

...or for GTK2, copy
/usr/share/themes/Geramik/gtk-2.0/gtkrc to either /etc/gtk-2.0/gtkrc or ~/.gtkrc-2.0

...but won't this override your font settings? Or does it act as a fallback? i.e. if ~/.kderc specified Arial, and GTK couldn't use that, would it then use "Sans 10" - or does it *always* use "Sans 10"??

Report

kderc specified sans 10 (adobe hevetica really) but all the text on the widgets (tabs, input boxes EVERYTHING) would default to Times. Using this it overrides the Times entry and makes it a pretty sans for now. i will send all relevent files/screenshots if you wish.

now GTK ALWAYS uses sans 10 , which is how i have all my qt apps set up.

Could you post the "font=" line from ~/.kderc? I'm a little confused as to why kderc would say Sans 10 - I would have thought it would say "Arial 10", "Helvetica 10", etc..

Geramik reads the kderc font= line to try to create f a font description to be used by GTK2.

Like cwoelz mentioned, would it be possible to let GTK apps use the KDE icons also? The default GTK icons don't really fit with [G/K]eramik.

Ther is work on a common icon theme spec - see www.freedesktop.org.

But this is a little bit more than what Geramik can do...

It actually looks better than the "real" Keramik. I like the striped title bar, I never understood why it got removed from the original.

Is there a way to make the background color of normal text fields be white like other widgets instead of grey? It looks like they are disabled. For example, in the first screenshot the bottom field of the Load Image dialog.

Report

Geramik doesn't actually set the text colour - this should be done in KControl by selecting "Apply colours to non KDE-apps" (If KDE also did this for fonts, they'd be no need for Geramik to read/hack this from ~/.kderc)

In the screenshot the text is grey as that field is disbled - because no image is selected.

Sorry, I've just noticed what you're referring to. I'll try to fix this - if I can...

I'm having some troubles with 0.06 but no longer have a copy of 0.05, is there a way to get the older tarball?

What problems are you having exactly?

If you send me an email, then I can send you a copy of 0.05. But i'd really like to know what issues you have with 0.06

Report

robind

I found the 0.05 version already so no need to send it.

The problems I noticed were:

1. In some apps the color change for the mouse rollover of radio buttons and checkboxes would not go away when the mose moved away from the widget.
2. Sometimes when there is static text that changes, like in a status bar or a progress dialog, the old text is not cleared before the new is drawn.

Going back to 0.05 fixed these.

As stated by "whitney" 0.06 was missing window_background.png.

Anyway both of your problems should be fixed by 0.07 - this version also has much nicer check/radio buttons.

The 0.06 release is missing window_background.png. By copying this file from 0.05, I was able to fix the problem with static text not being cleared.

Hi,
Geramik really looks cool! But there are some problems with the fonts. When starting gimp1.2 all the startup text is written on top of one another. And the fonts generally don't look as nice as they do in regular KDE. I am using debian/sid.

Which locale are you in? i.e. what does "env $LANG" or "env $LC_TYPE" say?

Also, what does the "font=" line say in ~/.kderc? Does an "xlsfonts" list this font anywhere?

Geramik tries to create an X font description (as in whats produced by xlsfonts) - from the contents of the "font=" line in ~/.kderc. It also tries to guess the encoding to use from the locale.

Can you try:
export QTPIXMAP_GTK_ENC=iso8859-2

(replace iso8859-2 with whicherver encoding you normally use)

and see if this helps?

Why does your version of Keramik have round Menu, Maximize, Minimize and Close Buttons? Are you images from the gimp or your actual desktop. Keramik is the latest release (kde3.1 rc3 has the traditional buttons). I think I like the round buttons better, so could you provide a little information about them.

Just in case you're interested - i've uploaded my kwin client. Have a look for "Agua" in the native window decorations section.

Report

C

The window decoration in the screenshots is a modified version of KDE's keramik kwin style. I changed the titlebar pixmap back to the old striped version, and added my own round / (optionally) coloured buttons.

If I can be bothered to package it up I may send it to kde-look.

SuSE 8.1 also ships a Version of Keramik with KDE 3.0.3. This works with Geramik.

Hi!

Yeah I know what CVS is, just not sure if there's a separated Keramik theme somewhere (as i found for 3.0), which (as a project itself) could have an own CVS version, or you were talking about the CVS version of KDE 3.1, which has Keramik as its default theme? Sorry for not being precise. BTW i'm testing gentoo now which has 3.1rc3 in it, so if needed i can install 3.1 i think. AFAIK 3.1 beta1 has just come out, do you think 3.1 final will be released soon? i haven't seen a roadmap for that, but it would be great :)

thanks, hirisov

the Keramik widget style is in kdelibs/kstyles/keramik. So you can get the latest frmo either the 3.1rc tarballs, or getting kdelibs from KDE's CVS. I'd just use the rc tarballs though - there's not much difference.

Hi!

And can you help me please where can i find info about this CVS version of keramik and if it works w/ KDE3.0 ? Or does it require 3.1 rc? After installing CVS of keramik should i reinstall geramik?

thanks, hirisov

Not wanting to sound insulting, but if you don't know what CVS is - then I suggest you just wait for KDE3.1, and install that. Should be out very soon.
