Description:

Description
-----------
Based on a Ubuntu 18.04 design concept. Works with GNOME 3.20 and up.

Wallpaper is included. More preview images are at the GitHub page since GL has an image limit.

Extensions
----------
Dash to dock. Enable panel mode and position it on the left.
Dynamic Panel Transparency. The non-dark variant comes with a semi-transparent panel. In an ideal world, the top panel would become completely black when a window is maximized but we don't live in that world yet. I highly recommend this extension.

Fixes a couple of issues. Some small changes for 3.26 like removing the gradient effect in Ubuntu 17.10 (thanks to kfstudio).

That's on purpose, it's supposed to be gold.

I'm noticing the dashboard an orange background around all the active application icons. While the side stripe is nice, the orange background, kinda creates a broken checker pattern across the dash, breaking the clean style of the dash. It might be just my opinion, but I think it would look better w/o the background colour change. http://i.imgur.com/QE7CB6i.png

I think it looks cool but I'll think about it. Maybe have arrow indicators the way Unity 7 did it.

Looks awesome, should be default in Ubuntu 17.04.
But the launcher could be an icon like the others on the panel ;)

Small request (hopefull) but can you whip up an XCFE window theme using United's window colors and buttons textures?

I'll look into it after I finalize the GTK3 and GTK2 themes.

Latest version, there are still some icons showing up as colored boxes rather than the icon itself. Screenshots here: http://imgur.com/a/Cvu68

What icon pack are you using? Looks like it's pointing to a symbolic icon that doesn't exist in the pack.

Report

Thank you! That was the issue. Changed packs and they all show up beautifully. Great work on this.

Try editing the index.theme file for the icon pack you were using and adding "gnome" (no quotes) at the end of the "inherits" line if it isn't there already. It'll pull whatever icons it doesn't have from whatever packs are listed in that line in descending order. And thanks, I'll be working on this again soon. Sorry for any open issues.

The top panel looks great (and the overview mode), but isn't there a way to let the dock as it is originally? I tried unchecking Dash to Dock's "use system's theme", but the orange teal and Ubuntu logo are still in there.

Please remove the border-radius of show-apps icon in dashboard. Circular style doesn't match with the beauty of the dashboard of this theme. Previous style (square button) is looking great.

The circular launcher icon only shows up if you don't have dash to dock in panel mode or if you don't have dash to dock installed.

Nice theme, many thanks!
Dear globalmenuwhen, is there any way to customize the applications grid in Dash board? I have 15.4' laptop and it looks so dirty because of truncate of application names. I think that reducing cols with/or increasing cell width will help. But I was confused with theme styles and feel lost. Properties that may change cell width in my view works wery strange. They makes cells smaller instead of making them bigger. Maybe I do wrong?

Report

I don't think there is. GNOME is notorious for having no settings for customizing anything. I've been experimenting a lot with the app grid layout for Minwaita and found no way to get around the strict truncating.

You didn't do anything wrong. What does "gnome-shell --version" return in a terminal? It looks like you might be using an unsupported version, that's all.

It need at least 3.20 as described. I also had a broken theme with 3.18. If you are using 16.04 LTS, you need to add Gnome Team staging ppa to upgrade you Gnome Shell to 3.20

V2.3 3 years ago

Fixes a couple of issues. Some small changes for 3.26 like removing the gradient effect in Ubuntu 17.10 (thanks to kfstudio).

V2.2 3 years ago

Bug fixes.
Compact versions.
Debian + Antergos variants.
GTK3 check and radio buttons are done through CSS instead of with external assets.
Toolbuttons don't have the 3D effect applied to them anymore.
Unity support (only Ubuntu and Ubuntu-Alt variants)
Shell overview is darker with a slight gradients.
New window buttons.

V2.1.3 3 years ago

More mundane buttons to avoid rogue white on white issues. Both buttons and entry fields inherit more of Suru to balance out their dumbing down.

Fixed some background color inconsistencies and numerous GTK2 issues.

The slider and terminal closer resembles Unity 8's. In the former's case, it looked too similar to Material Design's.

Checkboxes and radio buttons are now smaller.

Shell OSD elements now use a border image which lets them stand out a bit more.

The list view has soft borders between items for easier differentiation.

If using the transparent Shell theme and desktop icons were enabled, there would be a white line above the panel, this has been removed and desktop icon text is now white.

V2.1.2 3 years ago

Tweaked transparency for visibility reasons.
Cleared up issue with the Shell crashing when opening a couple apps. Source was the background color to indicate running status in dash to dock so they've been removed. Sorry about that.

V2.1.1 3 years ago

Tweaked the palette to match the Ubuntu/Suru palette.
The notification dot in the Shell theme matches the variant's primary color (orange for Ubuntu, blue for Fedora, etc).
Changed the look of the window shadow.
Overshoot/undershoot coloring is less prominent.
Thicker Shell calendar arrows.
Increased the size of checkboxes and moved over to new Ambiance-based check and radio buttons for irony's sake and also because Unity 8's assets are too thin and won't look good in case.

Fixes:
Selected progressbars were all white.
A couple small hover/active state styling inconsistencies.
Windows would pop when changing from focus from one to the other.
The Shell's rounded buttons would have a black background color behind them.
Dialog boxes had no shadow behind them.
GTK2 separators were the same color as the background. (W O W!)

V2.0.1 3 years ago

Finetuning, couple fixes (notebook tabs would sometimes be in the primary color for some reason) and variants for everybody. Previews are on the github page since there's just too many images right now. If you want a more agnostic launcher logo, for now, you can grab a couple logos in the launcher icons archive and do some renaming. I don't know how to do anything except for loops in bash right now so no script yet, sorry.

V2.0 3 years ago

The GTK2 and GTK3 themes have been overhauled and the Shell theme has gotten a couple of tweaks but nothing as extensive as the GTK themes. The purple buttons have regrettably been scrapped because of a dead end problem with Firefox, but hey, no more grey text on purple buttons at least! A Fedora variant is now included.

V1.8 to V1.9 3 years ago

Bug fixes and coherency improvements.

V1.8 3 years ago

A whole lot of cleaning up was done. The colours are a lot more balanced, readability and focus has been upped, etc. Don't feel bad about reporting bugs!

V1.7.6 3 years ago

Blaze it edition. Couple fixes for the Light theme, more than just a couple for the dark and darker themes (I've been compiling it without the fixes partial the whole time). No luck with LibreOffice outside of that one fix. Source files are now on GitHub. Please don't laugh at my disorganization.

V1.7.4 3 years ago

Light and Mixed shell variants (there are too much to explain what's different now) GTK3 clean up, assets have been tidied up yet again and a couple button subtypes had some inherited-by-accident rules (you might have noticed the radio and checkboxes looking off along with the color swatch just looking plain weird).

An almost perfect theme, if you ask me! Very stylish and clean. I especially like the wide, but fitting use of transparency. BUT: Why on earth gray fonts on the desktop (I enabled files on desktop in Tweak Tool)? I can (barely) tolerate them in the Nautilus sidebar, but gray fonts on the desktop hurt my eyes. The default white would be great here.
