Why should we place the logo in the top left corner?
Actually it has to do with eye-flow … the western society is taught to read from left to right … however, studies have shown that the human has a natural inclination to look in the upper left-hand quadrant of a visual window.
Upon arrival in any visual gulp, the human lands on the darkest visual area first (or lightest if it is a dark background) and then instinctively makes a quick “Z” of the whole window beginning in the upper left and exiting at the lower right.
Graphic designers are trained to place the most important elements within the arrival or scan zones. The exit zone should contain an element that makes the eye return to the top. in fast reading, the exit will be the last impression, so important visual information should be there as well.
Take a typical magazine ad, and hand it to an unsuspecting person … carefully watch their eyes and you’ll see this quick visual negotiation of the page.
:-)
Put the logo at the upper left. It’s where they’ll start.
If you’ve captivated their attention, as good design should, they’ll move through the page
Put the logo again at the lower left, or end of page, left.
