Description:

This is a servicemenu which allows integration with WinRar via Wine.

Requirements:
* Kde 3.5.x+konqueror OR kde4+dolphin
* Wine (tested with 0.9.46)
* Winrar installed under "c:program fileswinrarwinrar.exe" (Tested with winrar version 3.71)

Installation
KDE4:
Copy winerar_kde4.desktop file to ~/.kde4/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/

KDE3:
Copy winerar_kde3.desktop file to ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/

Usage
Right Click on a bunch of files and go to the submenu "WineRar"

Why would you want to use a proprietary application you have to pay for and which you have to run in WINE when there's native GNU/Linux, Free equivalents like p7zip (which already has better KDE integration than this, such as a kioslave and native support in Krusader)?

Moreover, the RAR decompression code has licensing issues, so people will not be able to decompress the RAR archives you're creating with truly Free Software. Creating content in proprietary formats is bad.

Your service menu is very usuful, there is no program which can be compared to Winrar, fortunately it works under wine

added polish translation but i think it should be in utf8

What do you mean with "Correct for Kubuntu"?
You writed "C:\\program files\\winrar\\winrar", but as long as you use quotes or double quotes, there's no need for you to use (double) "\\".
Didn't that works for you before doing that?

Hello koko2k.
In the code corresponding to "Extract Files...", I have replaced "`winepath -w ./.winerartmp/`*.*" for "`winepath -w ./.winerartmp/`*" and now work for me.
I attach the modified file for an Spanish installation of winrar and kubuntu in "~/.wine/drive_c/Archivos de programa/WinRAR"

Are you Italian? :)

Yes, i am :)
Did the file you was trying to extract had an extension?
Very strange, it works for me anyway!

Report

YAFU

Yes, replacing "`winepath -w ./.winerartmp/`*.*" for "`winepath -w ./.winerartmp/`*" only works with .rar extensions.
But with "`winepath -w ./.winerartmp/`*.*" don't work for me.
Anyway, I resolve the problem including [*.*] or [*] into [``]. You can see the attached file:

http://rapidshare.com/files/62155927/winerarES.desktop.html

Now works fine with any compressed file.

Understood, i will try this out, but there was a reason because i left *.* out, i just have to remember it!

That way, it works with just one archive at once, also i've no problem to left * or *.* out of ``, strange you have.

Hello.
Solved! The problem was that I had installed an old version of winrar, and "Extrat files..." did not works with a single file.
Two new things:
1) In "Compress...", winrar dialog is opened correctly but the default name of the file is always "_.rar". For example: with the file called "test.txt" the default name that appears in winrar dialog is "_.rar" and not "test.rar". I know, a little and non important thing :)
2)Winerar does not works in FAT32 partitions. With "extract" options, winrar "file not found" message appear. With "compress" options dialogs are opened but nothing happens later. Opening winrar.exe with Wine, it works fine in FAT partitions.

I attach the new version file for an Spanish installation of kubuntu and Winrar under "c:\archivos de programa\winrar\winrar.exe"

http://rapidshare.com/files/62781506/winerar.desktop.html

I have made a small modification in Spanish traslation:
Abre con Winrar >> Abrir con Winrar
Repara el Archivo >> Reparar el Archivo

Thanks and very good work :)

*Glad to hear you solved that problem, i guess i should write what winrar version i tried :p
*About the "_.rar" issue, you right, same behaviour here, but i've still to find out why it happens.
*About the fat32 issue, you're right too, fat32 does not support simbolic links, but they are absolutely necessary for this service-menu to works correctly, nor i think i'm gonna find any workaround shortly.
*In the next update i'll correct the spanish translation, thanks.

You don't need a "decent program"
to manage rars with progress bars,
you just need kio_rar at
http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/kio_rar?content=17527
and progress bars will be those of konqueror.
No wine, best integration.

Maybe that covers the task of extract a single rar, but what about extract hundreds of archives to relative folders or compress hundreds of folders to relative archives, create multi-volume archives, or protect them with passwords...

Maybe you would like to explain me how to do it without using scripts or command lines, thanks.

I don't understand, you want to
compress into RAR format when:
1) isn't supported at all without wine
2) has no more the best compression as
has been surpassed by 7zip format
which IS natively supported.

This doesn't make sense, if you want best support use zip or tar, if you need best compression use 7zip.

Windows user who thinks to go linux:
w:"Hey: can i use winrar under linux?"
l:"Yes, you can, because of wine"
(some months later)
w:"Hey: is there a better compressor?"
l:"Of course! Try 7z"
(7zip compression is better than rar, no doubt; still rar is far more 'popular', think about that too)
