Description:

This is a Service Menu to compress and extract files and folders.

After a long period of not maintaining this servicemenu (Sorry, sorry, sorry!), I'm back to fix some bugs and add translations.
Because of having Ark and it's Service Menu back, I won't add new features or make a huge rework of this one.

Thanks for your appreciation.

Installation:
1. Download and extract
2. go inside the extracted folder
3. execute the install-script (install.sh) and follow the dialogs
4. enjoy:-)

NOTE: The programs p7zip, bunzip2, bzip2, gzip, rar, unrar, tar, zip, unzip and unace must be installed.

Supported languages:
German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Chinese Simplified, Portuguese (Brazilian), Czech, Polish, Turkish, Danish, Russian and Catalan.

NOTE:
If your language isn't supported yet then just do this:
- add your language strings to the .desktop-files
- go inside the dialogs-folder
- add your language strings to the dialog-scripts
- send me a message

Yes, ntfs-partitions on my PC have read/write-capability via ntfs-3g.

With ark I have no problems to extract archives on ntfs. I don`t know, why it fails!

Sorry but i can't test this szenario, because i don't have a ntfs-partition mounted with ntfs-3g.

is there anybody else who has this problem?

Hi,

I just want to thank your work. I really really missed this feature in KDE4. However, I would like to point out a minor detail. I think it would better to have a single tar.gz file rather different ones depending on each supported language. I have also noticed that the the English distribution also has German support while the Spanish has these two and, of course, Spanish. Why not to have a single distribution file having all supported language together? This way it would be more simple for everyone (a single choice) and for you too to distribute too.

Well, leaving aside the above comment, thanks a lot for your good job! :-)

Hello and thank you for your comment!

The fact that i added different language versions aren't caused by the servicemenu-files. It's because of the scripts which shows dialogboxes. They don't have, as far as i know, multilanguage support.

All i can promise you is that i will raise my knowledge and look for other solutions.

Well done; Thank you my friend - this service menu is very useful :-)

I's strange, why this menu is missing in KDE 4 ... :-/

Thank you again !! ;-)

This was the one feature I was really annoyed not having in KDE4! It has really bugged me that I have to either

Use Ark (horrible interface, only good for making archives IMO)

Use the CLI (tar xfs ... or unzip etc.)

Thank you!! :D

Thank you for your comment!

Btw i have to say that ark will be getting better until the final release of KDE4.1. In functionality and interface.
But for simple extraction and compression of archives it's not the best and fastest solution.

Could you change the tar so that when extracted it creates it's own folder to hold everything instead of just dropping it with everything else in the selected dir - thanks,

Hello,

if i've understand you correctly, then it's already implemented. Just chose "extract to subfolder".

Thank you for your comment.

when I used ark/kde4 to extract it from within Konqueror/kde4 there were no "scripts" directory created everything went into the same dir (no subs!).

using extract from Dolphin extracted it fine.

I did notice though that your service menu overwrote Dolphin's - I assume that's because theres only on set for all of kde4

thanks,

Can you add a menu that extract the archive to a subdirectory?

(So wie in Winrar meine ich! Also wenn die Datei z.B. "Plasma.zip" heisst = "Enpacken nach Plasma"

This would be very helpful for some archives!

Hello,

I'll try it and it's on my todo-list. That's why it's not v1.0 yet.

THX! It`s working, but the paths are different on my PC!

I use KDE 3.5.9 & KDE 4.1 Beta2 and have to copy the files to:

/home/Username/.kde4/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus &
/usr/lib/kde4/bin

As far as I know, in case of 7z there are problems with *nix file properties, so it is safer to use *.tar.7z instead of *.7z.
Please consider adding also *.tar.7z
