Icon Tasks

Show the name where? This is an icon-only taskbar, I have no intention of providing text labels to the task items. Use standard taskbar for that. - Sep 02 2011

Is this with v0.2.0? Do you run with a dual screen set-up? In The Icon-Only settings, which filters have you enabled? - Sep 02 2011

? How would you minimize from the tooltip?

I have noticed that smooth tasks allows for right-clicking to bring up the task menu - I might try to mimic this. - Sep 01 2011

No, sorry. The whole idea is to have the launcher and tasks for an app in a consistent place. - Aug 31 2011

Launchers don't show up? When? There is an issue with changing virtual desktops/activities, where launchers show when they shouldn't - which will be fixed in the next release. But I'm not aware of launchers not showing.

The error with the KDE standard taskbar has been fixed in KDE's source control - which is what I based my mods on. - Aug 31 2011

This is, AFAIK, a kwin issue. I've seen it before with SmoothTasks. Also, the base code (90%) is fro the standard taskbar. - Aug 31 2011

OK, I traced this down to a KDE/master commit that I merged just before I released this. Guess I should've checked closer! Anyway, I think I've resolved this, and have emailed Aaron, so will release a fixed version later. - Aug 30 2011
Icon Tasks

Plasma 4 Extensions by CraigD 642 comments

Hmmm... I see the opposite.

If I create a new activity, start a launcher, when I go back to the first activity the launcher for the app is no longer in the taskbar (whereas it should be, as the app is not running in that activity).

The idea of IconTasks is that the launcher/task icons are always in the same place - regardless of whether they are running or not.

I'll try to look into this activity issue later. - Aug 30 2011

Yeah, I like this from SmoothTasks as well. If I get time, I'll see about adding this. As to adding the other buttons - if I ever did this, I'd make it follow the kwin settings. - Aug 29 2011

AFAIK, the plasma task applet authors do not want an icon only mode. A previous patch (just for icon-only) was submitted, but rejected. Hence the author released Flexible tasks. - Aug 29 2011

Plasma 4 Extensions by CraigD 642 comments

In theory the code *should* compile. But you might want to uninstall the kdebase-workspace devel packages - as the system installed taskmanager headers will probably be being used first.

You then need to edit applet/CMakeLists.txt and add:

include_directories (${CMAKE_SOURCE_DIR}/lib)

...note, I have not tested this - as I have 4.7 installed.

Feel free to file a bug report. The kwin developers are aware of the issue, and I even sent a quick patch to 'fix' the issue - but I don't think it was 100% what was wanted, or at least I'm not sure... - Aug 26 2011
QtCurve reads its colour settings from ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals. Edit this file to change the colour settings. - Aug 19 2011
Sorry - I don't 100% understand...

I assume you mean you have edited the code so that QtCurve reads '/etc/kde/apps/QtCurve/global.qtcurve' to get its default settings?
The files stores in ~/.kde4/share/apps/QtCurve/ are *just* used by the config panel. QtCurve reads its per-user settings from ~/.config/qtcurve/stylerc

So, to have you're global one used for each users, sym link from /etc/kde/apps/QtCurve/global.qtcurve to ~/.config/qtcurve/stylerc - Aug 19 2011

Uh?? What packages? - Aug 03 2011
Hmm... This is because kwin 4.7 now no longer provides a generic shadow plugin - leaving shadows up to each theme. This is a terrible idea - each and every theme now has to implement a piece of code that was shared before.

If I get time, I will look into this. But, it would be **much** better for kwin to provide a generic shadow systems for themes that do not provide it. - Aug 01 2011
Oxygen Gtk

QtCurve by HugoPereira 340 comments

I've noticed this change too. Why cant kwin use its old shadows for cases like these? Now every non-oxygen style does not have shadows for menus :-( - Aug 01 2011
I'm not sure what these changes are. I'll wait until 4.7 is out, and then make any required changes - if I get time... - Jul 09 2011
As stated before....

At the moment, no. Sorry. Its just going to be a *lot* of work. I did re-factor the Gtk2 codebase to make a Gtk3 port easier. But to be honest, I now use Oxygen, and don't have the time/enthusiasm to learn Gtk3's new CSS themeing. - Jul 09 2011

The textual description overlaps the 'thumb' of the slider:

The popup menu of the 'default sink' combo is clipped:

Also. perhaps 'default output' would be more user-friendly than 'default sink'?

The problem is that after the opacity is set, Qt creates a *new* widget - nothin I can do about this. Sorry. Opacity is just a hack anyway! - May 28 2011
This is due to Qt creating a new widget when the opacity setting is changed. QtCurve (and Bespin/Oxygen-Transparent) try to help this by moving the widget far, far, away so that kwin takes control and places it properly. This is obviously no longer working.

Can you try the following patch: http://paste.kde.org/75247/

This should 'fix' things for dialogs, but wont affect windows. These still get placed at 0,0 - not sure how to fix that.

Anyway, let me know if the patch works for you. - May 27 2011
Which app? And which Gtk2 version? I've just tried with GIMP, and short-cuts still work for me. But to be honest, if they're not working I'm not sure if QtCurve can do much - all I do is set the visibility flag of the menubar. - May 27 2011

Oxygen itself already has a Gtk2 and Gtk3 port - and will blend much better than Qtcurve. - May 27 2011
UFW KControl Module

System Software by CraigD 48 comments

OK, I spoke too soon! Re-read your comment, and yup its seems to create /.kde/share/... for me too. I think this is a bug in the KAuth code, but changing to use qDebug() works around this. I'll add this fix to the next release. Thanks for reporting. You should probably create a KDE bug report about this. - May 12 2011
UFW KControl Module

System Software by CraigD 48 comments

Odd... I dont see this. The helper does not explicitly create any KDE related files, but it does use KDebug - perhaps this is causing the issue?

Can you try editing helper.cpp and replace:

#include <KDE/KDebug>

with:

#include <QtCore/QDebug>

and then replace all "kDebug()" with "qDebug()". Recompile, etc, and see if this fixes the issue? Thanks. - May 12 2011
UFW KControl Module

System Software by CraigD 48 comments

You can specify a range using "11235:11335". I've just tested this, and it works. This can be confirmed by tyeping "sudo ufw status" from a commandline - if ufw is enabled (when its disabled the commandline does not show the rules)

Also, un-checking the "Firewall status" checkbox disables UFW. Again, tyeping "sudo ufw status" from a commandline will confirm this.

Which version of Kubuntu are you on? I started with 10.10, but am now on 11.04 - May 07 2011
I assume you mean the 'menu stripe' - the stripe that is painted down the left hand side of menus? If so, this does not always work properly for gtk applications - so is disabled for these by default. To enable, go to the 'Applications' page, and remove 'gtk' from the 'No menu stripe' setting. - Apr 18 2011

I agree, it should be under "Network and connectivity" - probably within "Network settings", but I'm not 100% sure... - Apr 11 2011
Try pressing the "Detach" button - it puts the preview into its own window. - Apr 08 2011
I've just tested, and it seems to be ok with my settings.

Can you email me your qtcurve settings. Please use the email address in the AUTHORS file. - Apr 08 2011
Sorry, no bug tracker! But feel free to email me any bug reports.

Thanks for this, I'll add it o the next update. - Mar 30 2011
This *looks* like a KPackageKit issue. I've tried with; windows, cleanlooks, plastique, and bespin. All these have the *same* problem.

When QtCurve is set to use background gradients, then the problem disappears. (This is probably why oxygen is ok - as it always draws a background gradient).

I think you should file a bug report against KPackageKit.

(Also, the text for the 'Install' / 'Remove' buttons just looks wrong when they are pressed and the row selected) - Mar 30 2011
Thanks for reporting. Will be fixed in the next patch release. - Mar 29 2011
This theme works fine for me. Have you checked your titlebar colour settings in the colour control module? - Mar 23 2011
I'll look into fixing the set image file bug.

As for scaling the background - not gonna happen, would be too CPU intensive (as the scaling would happen twice - once for the style, and again for the window decoration).

You can already have a tiled background image - its just in a different setting! Select 'Tiled image' from the 'Background appearance' combo - then click the wrench icon to specify the image filename.
- Mar 22 2011
Thanks for informing me. I'll remove the workaround in the next patch release. - Feb 18 2011
Please read the QtCurve description above.

But, oxygen has its own Gtk2 theme - and this will be a better match than using KDE oxygen and Gtk2 qtcurve. - Feb 17 2011
