The easiest way to altering themes
is to create a folder named .themes in your home folder, see
screenshot 2, I have put a shortcut
to it, side pane of thunar my file manager. the dot before makes it a hidden file which you may see by
selecting the View tab and checking the Show Hidden Folders.There are many hidden folders that is why I create a shortcut.
I extract every theme I download here. You don't have to use
sudo, su, or open any file as root, because it is in your home folder that you have total control over. Every theme saved here is
automatically linked with /usr/share/themes and will show
in your appearance or theme changer application.

You will notice from screenshot 2, I also have a .icons and .fonts
a nice way of managing any icon themes, mouse pointer themes, and
extra fonts.

________

Next...

Everything is controlled with/by
the gtkrc file located in the
gtk-2.0 folder.

So, you would open the gtkrc file
with your text editor.

Then in the menubar select the Search tab, then select Find and
type menu-sticker in the search box.

comment out line 402 and 403.
#overlay_file="Menu/menusticker.png"
#overlay_stretch=FALSE

Finally, go back to the menubar,
select File tab, and then select
the Save line. To save the changes
to the file.

Then just restart your theme or log out and now your own your way
to making your own personal theme.

Thanks K,

I made this theme for a specific purpose, to go along with a icewm

them as well as I could without loosing the specific look I was after. - Oct 06 2010

German,
Thanks for the comment, I have uploaded
the menu text change.

As for you gnome panel problems, I can not understand why you would not want at least an icon in your panel buttons. you must have a highly organized mind. I cant
remember one button from the next.
Maybe, an artist view?

Anyway, here is a possible solution:
find...style "panelbuttons"
line number 1573 in the gtkrc file,
#comment the x and y values or change them to 0.
The x, y coordinates tell the panel where to place the icon or text in the panel button. If your not using text or icon it probably is the reason for your ugly button. - Sep 26 2010

Nice artwork.
Toolbar look, slider, panel all are
exceptional.

thanks, for sharing.

one note: your panelrc text colors are
not being displayed properly all are black, it may just be a problem with
lxpanel, although I usually do not have
this problem. I tried your alternate customrc and had same results.
By the way, I also like your alternate panel. - Sep 19 2010

thrown in as task bar icons.

Kason,
This should get the selected text look you want.

style "treeview-item" = "default"
{

#text [ACTIVE] = "#d9d9d9"
#text [SELECTED] = "#ffffff"

engine "pixmap"
{

image
{
function = BOX
state = ACTIVE
file = "/Listheaders/treeitem.png"
border = {2,2,1,2}
stretch = TRUE
}

image
{
function = BOX
state = SELECTED
file = "/Listheaders/treeitem.png"
border = {2,2,5,2}
stretch = TRUE
}

image
{
function = FLAT_BOX
state = SELECTED
file = "/Listheaders/treeitem.png"
border = {2,2,1,2}
stretch = TRUE
}
}
}
Just add it to your gtkrc and add your treeitem.png to the Listheaders folder.

If you like the glow on my theme

You will have to either:

a) increase your font size,

b) try a different font that has a
taller profile. I use nimbus sans.

c) open ripstops gtk folder and edit the
menubar.rc file. Change the
ythickness=2 to a higher number like
3, then save your change and
restart the theme.

I found that the more compact fonts,
smooth out the furrows.

Any one of these options should get you
the look you want.
