The idea is that dockbarx shows an icon for the application in the panel and for the windows in it's window list. Those icons aren't always the same and shouldn't be. The icon in the window list should always be the same as when alt-tabing, though. - May 19 2010

Effects like smooth task isn't working very well with a theme engine where the theme makers are given the artistic freedom to make dockbarx look as they like. I haven't been able to find a way to combine a high level of customize-ability and using a lot of animations at the same time. The dockbarx effects will remain static for now.

Could you describe more in detail when you mismove the mouse? I'm not sure I get in what situation that happens. - May 11 2010

When I have the time, sure. But right now I'm reorganizing all the code and then there is zeitgeist integration. I never touched the AWN part. Aleksey coded it for vanilla dockbar and Reeve proted it to dockbarx. So it might take some reading on my part to figure out what's needed. - May 05 2010

There is a bug that stopped some people from opening the preference dialog, but you don't seem to be affected by it.

You can set an custom icon by

1) Changing the icon in alacarte (or right click gnome menu and choose "edit menu") will change the icon for dockbarx as well.

2) Make a custom launcher by dragging an launcher from gnome menu to a folder and the right click and choose "properties", change the icon, close and drag the launcher to dockbarx. Don't delete the launcher from the folder! (If the launcher doesn't recognize it's windows, right click the launcher and choose edit identifier and choose the correct identifier from the drop-down list, when a window of the program is opened) - May 02 2010

Dockbarx is working around the philosophy that the most productive way to handle windows and launching for an application is to do it all from the same spot at all time. For example to interact with firefox is always done from the same few pixels on dockbarx.

I can't really see why you want to separate launchers and the window and I dont want to add an option that IHMO might make people less productive. Sorry.

Keep suggesting improvements for dockbarx though. It's appreciated. - May 01 2010

Did you copy dbx_preference.py to /usr/bin? The instructions is missing from README, I know it will be fixed soon.

Yes, it should. Incredible that no one has sugested it before. I'll fix it right away.

On multiple languages, I've thought of that and it will come, eventually. There are some small problems, like the color list in preference dialog. The color names are decided inside the theme so it would be very hard to get them translated correctly. But yes, translations for dockbarx will be possible sometime in the future. - Apr 16 2010

Hi. I didn't know about Zorin OS. Great to see a distro that uses DockbarX out of the box, that was one of the milestones I was hoping that dockbarx should one day achive.

Could you ask the user to give the resource class names for lotus and lotus zip? I need those to be able to analyse why dockbarx is guessing wrong. - Mar 30 2010

Feedback on whether a program has been launched is already implemented in dockbarx 0.24.1. That version hasn't been made for the ppa yet, but it will be there soon, hopefully. Alternatively you can install it manually. The theme you use must also support feature for you to see it. All themes that are included in dockbarx 0.24.1 (exept human bar?)supports it and a few third party themes, like sunny theme supports it as well. A newer version of human bar that is available on the internet also supports it. - Mar 21 2010

You can choose "select or minimize all" for "multiple windows open" in groupbutton tab. Then left clicking should do what you want then.

I believed that option was the default one, it should be. I will change that to the next version.

I seldom click the window list myself, neither. I agree that it's a bit small for that (the window list should become theme-able sometime in a distant(?) future), but I think it gives important visual feedback when you scroll between the windows.

Thanks for your feedback. It's nice with people that gives feedback on productivity aspects of dockbarx.

If you just an icon only window list, use talika. Most of the features that dockbarx has and talika is missing only makes sense if you group windows anyway.

IMHO multitasking works great just because of grouping. It reduces the clutter. You just have to use your mouse wheel to quickly switch between windows of the same program. - Mar 19 2010

Pinning does only work if dockbarx correctly can guess which gio application a windows resource class belong to. It will never work 100% because it's built on guessing.

You can add launchers for openoffice and exaile anyway, though. Drag the icon for the program you want to add from gnome menu to dockbarx and drop it. Launch the program. If the window recognized by the launcher when it's opened, right click on the launcher and choose "Edit Resource Name". In the drop down list choose the resource name of the window. - Feb 27 2010

Your theme has a invisible handle, I guess? Try to right click (or double right click) a little to the left of dockbarx.

You can also start dockbarx in windows (dockbarx.py run-in-window). From there you'll get to the preference dialog and you can set up a group button action for accessing the preference window for example by shift+right click a group button. - Feb 22 2010

Well, in that case you can asign a mousebutton to that. Open the preference dialog (you can run dockbarx in window to be able to do that, "dockbarx.py run-in-window"). Go to group button tab and choose for example "shift+right mouse button" and "show preference dialog".

Or alternatively you can pull the latest commit of the dockbarx branch from launchpad. I've separated the preference dialog now. copy dbx_preference.py to /usr/bin and run it with "dbx_preference.py". - Feb 17 2010

The area is not one pixel wide (on most themes at least), but because of some unkown reason you'll have to double right click the handle some times. Test it.

I will separate the preference window from the rest of the applet eventually, for memory saving reasons. Then it will be possible to run it directly. - Feb 14 2010

Yes, I mean the background pixmap on mouse over on a launcher. Is it meant to be seen? I can't spot it on my computer when using human gtk theme and not in your first screenshot either. If it's not meant to be seen, remove it since it limits the range of panels your theme can be used on.

Just my 2 cents. Keep up your good work! - Feb 13 2010

I do like it.

Some small comments:
1) It should still work in pre x.0.24.1 versions. It will just ignore your default colors.
2) That launcher mouseover, does it do anything good? It's invisible on human panel and on darker panels it just looks wierd.
3) A launching effect would be nice, for example you could let the color back to the icon on launches. - Feb 12 2010
