but imho it's a bit better than the current desing. I dont like the current desing too much, its not really KDE-ish. esp the fact you can't really alter and move the several parts of the interface, while that should/could be possible. like change the toolbars (yes, you can change 1 of them, but not the others) and being able to move them. - Nov 21 2004

Search bar improvement

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by oliverthered 16 comments

this is quite like my idea of the ideal solution to searching in Konqi ;-)

the button you can use to choose should indeed be bigger. and the 'default' search behaviour in the locationbar should be clever: search locally when in filebrowser mode, search google when in webbrowsing mode. mabe a 'more' button with a search wizard icon on it, so you can enter more info about the search (and choose search engine etc) like meta-data. when a nice animation whould make it appear from the searchbar, or maybe (like the current search-local-files function) embed it in the toolbar. - Nov 16 2004

Konqueror search/filter field idea

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by WedDa 30 comments

the google searchbar in konqi has a google icon, right? and you can click it, and choose another searchengine, right?

so, i propose:
dump the googlebar, the locationbar can already search google. the only thing you lose is the option to choose another searchengine, so make the icon in the locationbar behave the same.

now on kde-apps and kde-developer.org there is a discussion about the kio-slaves, how their functionallity could be made easier to access. well, maybe they could be included in the drop-down menu... - Nov 15 2004

Konqueror search/filter field idea

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by WedDa 30 comments

why the googlebar is useless, and konqi's locationbar can do the same?

a misspelled url never sends you to a search page. check it out. I know internet exploders irritating behaviour, and thats just stupid. but konqi doesnt do that, it only searches google if you just enter "webpage". it'l search. and it'l search "webpage about linux". but it wont search "webpage.zak", altough it doesnt exist.

so why a seperate google bar? why not try to make clear you can use konqi's locationbar for google? and insert the same drop-down button from the google bar in the locationbar so you can search google with it, AND MAYBE CHOOSE A KIO_SLAVE(?) (for which the kde devs are looking for anyway).

the whole locationbar is goin' to be redesigned anyway... I hope they can keep it as small as possible, not wasting screenspace (as a seperate google search box does, imho). - Nov 15 2004

but please not another location/search bar. the google bar is already a useless addition to konqi, this whould just add another one.

konqi should search google instead of giving an error by default... (eg google should be made default search engine and voila we dont need the google search bar anymore, you can just use the location bar... much easier)

such a solution should be used for this, too. why not make it possible to use wildcards in the locationbar, and let the files showed be narowed down?

for exampley, you type ~/documents/*test.doc

and konqi only shows documents like gametest.doc latesttest.doc etc, not thisisnotaproperfile.doc or things like that.

maybe the sidebar could at the same time show a searchbar, and you should be able to select certain filetypes etc... - Nov 14 2004

Konqueror search/filter field idea

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by WedDa 30 comments

just like google searching is implemented in the inputfield for url's, why not ad a similar function for files? at least, konqi could 'narrow' the files while typing the name.

for example, you are in ~/documents and you are looking for "webreport 1994.rtf". you can type in "~/documents/webrep" and all showed files should match this criteria. or you type "~/documents/*1994.rtf" and only those files are showed.

this way, no new bars, non-obtrusive, and just works TM - Nov 13 2004

I like it, but in practice, I make my chat screen as small as possible. and this huge button for send (why? only looks ugly) is much too big. I like the sidebar, but thats the only thing... its to big, over all. make it full-screen, OR space-efficient - not this. this is wasting space while not using the whole screen - if the chatwindow is on front you cant use your screen, but the chatwindow itself isnt fullscreen either. - Nov 10 2004

well, I prefer Koffice, altough some features from OO.o whould be nice. but OO.o is too slow, and almost only sun ppl work on it. I think 2 guys more on Koffice whould do much more than 2 more on OO.o, even if you take in account the current size of the project (eg 10% more developers for Koffice do more than 10% for OO.o, I think).

so I'd prefer more ppl on Koffice, indeed.
