KDE 3.5 Themes by thomas12777 1262 comments

hi!
this seems to be a regression. I have the debian package for unstable, 0.5 afaik.
running kde 3.3.0.
check the screenshot: http://web.inter.nl.net/users/jospoortvliet/pictures/KDE-3.3.0-DebianUnstable-18-08-04.png

and btw, it looks like the comic frame is broken again, with the big bottom bar it still doesnt cover the bottom corners (and it used to do so...).

tnx for the work ;-) and sorry about the complaints - Aug 17 2004
Baghira

KDE 3.5 Themes by thomas12777 1262 comments

well, fork the theme and make it gpl ;-)
afaik you can do that. then you can continue development yourself (and add the patches from the lgpl original back in your baghira). if you seem to inprove more than the original lgpl baghira, maybe thomas will start helping you instead of his own and baghira wil continue as gpl :P

but it'll be alot work...

anyway I am satisfied with lgpl... although indeed maybe gpl whould fit better. - Aug 14 2004
IDEA: split view toolbar, sync/diff

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by Amibug 9 comments

yeah, its a good idea. whould increase the usefullness of konqi alot. give it a go and code it, or ask the konqi developers (or someone else) to do it (bugs.kde.org).

its another toolbar and imho it should be activated if you are
-in filebrowsing mode
-have your window split
-have not linked them. - Aug 14 2004
Kicker Improvements

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by Bert 8 comments

I bounce on kickers flexibillity-boundarys now and then, I wish I was a coder, so I'd change it... - Aug 13 2004
I dont really understand all these searchbars... the only search I use is google. and for that, I just type the searchwords in my locationbar, and hit enter - and google shows up. why another space-wasting bar? maybe 1 or 2 icons to enhance the functionallity of the locationbar (eg a "search with" button, so instead of plain google, other search engines are used - this *can* now be done using the webshortcuts, but no-one can remember them all ;-) )

I use only one toolbar in konqi, with up/back/next/refresh/stop/locationbar/search/+/-textsize
and I whoulnt want to have 3 or 4 bars decreasing my browsing screen... - Aug 12 2004

use big bottom bar & 4 rounded corners & comic frame, look at bottom of window: the nice comic frame, which in 0.5 did continue on the edge, does not any more...

Idea: Re-designing 'Recent Files' / URBs

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by sgtpepper 18 comments

Well, you can implement a database in kde. thats what macintosh did. easier whould be to add the database to the filesystem. thats what microsoft is going to do. the best (performance and flexibility-wise) whould be to add the data to the filesystem, which is an database itself: ReiserFS4. - Aug 07 2004
Idea: Re-designing 'Recent Files' / URBs

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by sgtpepper 18 comments

well, afaik, reiserfs could simply do that using seperate files. file attributes are kind'a saved as files, too. or to state it different, you might say there are no files in reiserFS, just entries. the nice performance trick is that it doesnt matter how many files you put in a map, for performance. so you can just make new entries as much as you want, performance does not decline. every piece of meta-data is an entry. like the files. and reiserfs treats them all the same. when you copy them, I guess its easy to simply compact the meta-data-entries in a file, and extract it when putting back on a reiserFS system. the files could be deleted, indeed, but if the windoze user doesnt, the meta-data will be saved and restored. - Aug 07 2004
Idea: Re-designing 'Recent Files' / URBs

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by sgtpepper 18 comments

I think this is a wonderfull idea. more meta-data in documents (like a undo/redo history, last position in file, etc) is nice I think, and this whould be an usefull way to use it.

Hmmmm hope reiserFS4 is finished soon... it can handle these kind'a things at virtually no performance cost (as opposed to the macintosh and microsoft solutions to this, resp seperated database and database layer on filesystem). - Aug 06 2004

Quote: no way, sorry (and this time i mean "no way" - unlike the stuff i told about the light gradient :)
all i can do is replace the highlight brush with some kind of pixmap, but qt then paints that pixmap as brush over the whole highlighted area (i.e. i have no runtime control over the painting function)

Well, I whoulnt dare to ask you to start diggin' in qt's code and change it ;-)

Quote: about your screenshot:
the tab/button conflict is upon the konqueror/qt position/size calculation i just paint the tabs and buttons where the application tells me to do (i guess konqueror messes up with the centered tabs when calculating those positions)

Hmmm. I dont have centered tabs... so its always present. quite stupid, if its konqi's fault... ehm, just checked in konsole, does show up there too. so I guess you've got to move the tab 2 pix to the right?!?!?

Quote: the stuff around the rounded buttons appears, as the pixmaps are precalculated and not alpha blended on runtime (as that is slow) - i suggest to not use the rounded taskbuttons if you wish a translucent kicker

ok, I'l do that... pitty, I love round corners in my UI ;-) - Aug 06 2004

waaaay cool, these gradients on selections. very good work, looks really slick! especially when you select several files...

but I found some problems (tried to post it earlier, well, didnt work, I guess)
but here is an url to a pic which can show wazzup ;-)

http://web.inter.nl.net/users/jospoortvliet/pictures/KDE-3.2.3-DebianUnstable-05-08-04.png

btw you'll have to zoom in to see what I mean with the ? button (yep its just a few pix, but its still like the ? button is moved by hand like someone changed the picture or something like that...)

hope you can fix it all...

thanx for the work again and again, its still amazing what you do, imho. - Aug 05 2004

KDE 3.x Window Decorations by jrch2k 357 comments

cool work!!! this I didnt expect ;-) nice done. but I'd like to ask if you fixed the maximize behaviour eg do the windows now realy maximize if not set to "enable resize on maximized windows" (like plastik does, and all windows windecs do)?

and btw its nice work, but I just think about it - ehm is such a theme really usefull? can't you maybe better put this code (in time, in time...) into Kwin itself so its easier to create themes or something like that? now its one windec that can look like a dozen others. thats quite strange (this is a strange thing with all super-configurable windecs and styles: the aren't really one style, but several. while I like configurabillity, well... hmm, its just strange. not meant to discourage you, btw. just a thought... - Aug 05 2004
