another option might be to let kpdf search for the page when you open it. So KPDF should allow to specify a search term on the commandline, and the search tool could call KPDF/Okular with the searchterm. - May 04 2007

cool application!! I'd love to have network transparancy, though, why don't you guys use the KIOslaves and the KDE filedialog?

if platfrom-independence is a problem, maybe you can start using those when you port to Qt4, as KDE 4/Qt4 are platform independent :D - May 03 2007
Amarok Fades in/out on Play/Pause

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by premierSullivan 5 comments

Isn't there already an option for this? there IS a fade-in/out config page. And if pause/play fadein/out isn't possible, maybe an amarok script could do it.

Though I hate it ;-)

only the fade-out on closing amarok is kind'a cool. - Apr 26 2007

hi,

it seems we (on the archlinux forum) are hitting some problems with these patches:

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=246149#p246149

move a little back on the page - we have problems loading for example kde-apps.com and some others. Some refferal problem, according to the last person... I'm not very knowledgable in this area, but I DO notice the fact I can't reply on osnews.com anymore... - Apr 26 2007

Well, I got this mostly from the mailinglist - there is some guy, elis, who works on one of the current video-editing apps for kde (calls it vivia on the mailinglist, could be he changed the name though) who asked on the list about inclusion in KOffice. I think he started working on it. here is a link to a mail from him:

Guys, I'd love to see some KDE integration. The KDE file-open dialog, the KDE toolbars and shortcut editor - you can add them easily and they would improve your app a lot... And of course network transparency would be great, and the KIOslaves give you that. Now I have to copy files over by hand... - Feb 27 2007

there is also work going on to get video editing in KOffice. They are making a 'shape' so you can use it in all KOffice apps, like kpresenter or kword... maybe some cooperation? would be cool... - Feb 26 2007

I'm really enjoying this applet, and I'd like to say it's clear you know how to develop a nice and usable app - little things, like the close button top-right (including the edges, so you don't have to try and hit it) make this great. It's just new, but already quite a hit, I'd say. Please continue!!! - Feb 20 2007

maybe move the stars to the text area as well, and remove the reflection. it's not noticable anyway, and my kicker is 50 pix (pretty big already, i'd say).

maybe a sideway reflection would work, tough... but you really need the albumart to be as big as possible on small horizontal kicker sizes. - Feb 19 2007

tough i have to do a make -f Makefile.cvs ;-)

anyway, tough I'm not a hacker at all, I really wanted the progressbar to move to the side (above the text) to increase the size of the album pic when using a horizontal kicker. So i modified coverdisplay.cpp, here's a diff output:

330,334d329
< // Compute progress position and height:
< m_progressRect.setX( m_margin + m_progressMargin );
< m_progressRect.setY( m_margin );
< m_progressRect.setHeight( height < 58 ? (height < 30 ? 3 : 4) : 5 );
<
341a337,341
> // Compute progress position and height:
> m_progressRect.setX( m_margin + m_progressMargin + m_coverRect.width() );
> m_progressRect.setY( m_margin );
> m_progressRect.setHeight( height < 58 ? (height < 30 ? 3 : 4) : 5 );

it's on my kicker now ;-)
I do have a 40px horizontal kicker, and the progress bar on top and reflection below doesn't really work with this size. just the albumart would be better, i think... maybe only do it on a vertical kicker? - Feb 10 2007

i'll answer here your last post, as i can't reply on that one (due to a limitation in kde-apps.org i guess).

i've read a bit more about your app, and i see a few nice things like multiple-span archives (damn i needed that some time ago). tough i would prefer to see you add support for those to ark and the KIO slaves so all KDE apps and KDE users would benefit from the ability of being able to work transparantly with those files... ;-) - Feb 08 2007

vote it down...

but the author is going to include kde integration (servicemenu's for example, and i hope he finds out how to use the KDE file dialogs when running KDE) so i guess it should stay. - Feb 08 2007

Utilities by giorgiotani 181 comments

well, currently Ark offers a big amount of integration in KDE but needs some usability work... i'd rather see it improved instead of a new GTK one, as that'll use more resources (having to load a second toolkit) and of course gtk is less efficient to develop with, compared to KDE/Qt, esp KDE4/Qt4 (which is crossplatform as well, btw, even easier).

even better would be better KIOslaves (with write support!!!), possibly almost removing the need for a seperate compression app alltogether.

anyway, you can check what services ark offers, and copy-paste them & change them for peazip...

btw i don't want to discourage you, more Free Software is Good, and i guess there are some innovations to be done for file compression (tough i'm not sure if peazip has any yet), but i don't really intend to use it - it duplicates well-integrated functionality in my desktop environment and doesn't add anything, besides a lot of memory usage (due to static linking and using another than my preferred toolkit). - Feb 08 2007

KDE 3.5 Themes by morgenrot 404 comments

another thing, the domino smoothscrolling hack (which i love...) breaks smooth scrolling in konqueror if it's already there (eg it goes a lot less smooth). archlinux has kdemod packages which include this smooth-scrolling-for-khtml hack, as do (afaik) kubuntu and some others. domino takes over, and well - the original effect is much more smooth...

for example, try to auto-scroll the window (shift-downarrow) and use the scrollwheel with and without smoothscrolling to 'on' in domino. observe the difference... i prefer the 'suse' khtml scroll. - Feb 08 2007

well, unless you offer some KDE integration like proper network transparancy using the KIOslaves, the KDE file dialog, servicemenu's etc (these things can be used depending on the app started in KDE or not, afaik), i don't think it belongs here... - Feb 08 2007
