KSnapshot and KolourPaint Integration (Idea)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by curtis1005 5 comments

some time ago there has been a long discussion about this on a KDE developer mailinglist. some patches have been applied, but i'm not sure (can't check my mail here) what the outcome was. rest assured, thought has gone into ksnapshot for KDE 4... - Sep 25 2006
Removable Media Action Manager (mockup)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by Kwilliam 7 comments

nice work, really. you might try to contact the person who wrote the current auto-action code, and ask him if he is willing to mentor you a bit while you write this proposal. add yourself to some mailinglists and post this proposal here, like on kde-usability and kde-core-devel. it's very likely you'll recieve some comments and offers for info ;-) - Sep 24 2006
hi,

wonderfull style, it's my default now, for some time. tough i switch a lot ;-)

anyway, i'd like to ask for three things:
first - can you allow us to round the menubar and toolbar emphasis/colored bar?

and second, maybe you can round things like menu's and stuff a bit more? Domino has shown that it can be done, and look good.

third (and imho least important): can we have some animations, here and there, like fade in/fade out or something? - Sep 24 2006

Dragon Player

Video Players by eean 278 comments

codeine should really be on bugs.kde.org, as the internal bugreport tool gives errors...

anyway, here my wish:

i have several dvd iso's which i can mount, but not play. only the vlc player has the ability to play a directory, and see if it contains a dvd. kaffeine just plays the files in there (which kind'a works) and codeine just can't do it at all... maybe this could be resolved some way?

thanx,

btw it doesn't work for me... no matter if i use (with setup of course) kdesu or sudo, both tell me when i try to mount an image: ERROR: "/home/superstoned/Films/the sentinels/ss2g-sendvdr.iso" has data error! File might be of wrong type or corrupted.

but manually mounting the file works fine. ??? - Aug 30 2006

Tweaking Konqueror tabs

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by suslik 15 comments

superkaramba themes shouldn't be able to change any file, because they are way to easy to install and run. security matters... they won't lose any relevant functionality (and configuring settings, removing the whole /home/user folder etcetera is not relevant for a superkaramba theme) if they can't change files, so i really hope (and expect) plasmoids to be sandboxed in KDE 4.

why is this relevant now? well, you ARE writing a cool and usefull tool (i hate the fact certain settings are not really available in a GUI), and i'd love to see it available for KDE 4 settings which are only in a obscure textfile. you'd have to rewrite instead of port it, if you use something which won't be available for KDE 4... - Aug 26 2006

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by suslik 15 comments

could you also write down the settings somewhere, a readme.txt or here? your app just does nothing after clicking OK, and i don't think a .skz file is a good way to install stuff - why not use Kommander? you can write full apps in any way you like, easy, and they are click'n'run. look at kdewebdev, that's where kommander is in (not handy, no). its better for this kind of stuff (after all, a superkaramba theme shouldn't even be allowed to change ANY user file except its own, and i think it's likely it won't be possible anymore in KDE 4). - Aug 18 2006

KDE 3.5 Themes by morgenrot 404 comments

what configure does is check if he can find everything you need to build software. every thing he says no on is most likely a show-stopper. can't find gcc = no gcc (GNU C Compiler), crucial for compiling software. You need to install it. After you have installed the so called toolchain (a 'chain' of progs which are needed for compiling, one of them is GCC) you will need certain libraries, to be more precise: every dependency for the to-be-installed app needs to be available, WITH the corresponding -dev package. So this will for example need kdelibs, AND kdelibs-dev. so if configure can't find something, try to find out from what package it is, and install that one. google can help here.

good luck. - Jul 22 2006

well, I agree it's a bit too bold right now, not sure about the transparancy. I think it'll be pretty hard to see on a dark backround, anyway... a white surrounding might help, kind'a a glow? anyway, the only thing i could get in krita was making it a bit less harsh, a bit lighter. but that's easy, just lower contrast a bit... Not sure what to do next. btw you might wanna email me: jos@TmijnkamerD0Tnl - Jul 21 2006

You know, after 2 days of use - I think you just did the BEST 0.1 release of a style I EVER saw. Ok, there are other nice styles, but you did a lot things in your 0.1 which I didn't even think where possible!

the beautiful tooltips, the smooth scrolling, the great tab's, custom gradients - and have you seen Kmix? how it looks if you click it? ubercool, no style i've ever seen has been able to make that one look good... you did it in 0.1 :D

also, the beautifully rounded menu's - great! you might consider letting it go smooth from menu button into the menu itself (polyester does this, i think lipstick too), and there is a visual glitch, but all in all - they look great.

and you know, the style isn't even slow... - Jul 21 2006

for those that didn't find out yet, this style is very flexible, and can do the 'glass' look which is also available in polyester and qtcurve:

first, great theme. it has several really cool things, like the adjustable gradients, allowing for a polyester-like look. great work!

I have a few requests, tough. first, i think the outline around the elements is a bit too harsh. and second, the menu look could use some work:the mouse-over a menu item, looks a bit flat, maybe button-like would look better. same with the highlighted menu item - a more button-like look (polyester does this) would be cool.

then, LOVE the smooth scrolling!!! great job! but the slider is a bit small, maybe (allow to) make it a bit wider?

fourth, mouse over effects? would rock!

fifth, the tabs don't allign with the area below, and the area could use some rounded corners, maybe, too.

sixth, the slider is cool, but i also love the slider in the new ubuntu look. maybe you can make the slider look like that, as an option maybe? same with sliders, tough you're close already.

thanx, i hope you can continue to work on this style, resolve some issues, and port it to KDE 4 ;-)
(kde4 compiles, and needs a default style, imho all style dev's should get on the train and try to get their style to be default :D) - Jul 20 2006

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by oever 126 comments

also, it would be possible for KDE apps to use strigi as an API to add keywords/information to files, which can then be stored in xattr, so it is available to other indexers, too. And applications can ask strigi for info about files, too - it'd be cool if Amarok would use it as backend, and Kalzium, and Digikam... Strigi might grow into (at least it's intended to) the Phonon of search. - Jun 16 2006
