…well, it did not change much since 0.4.4 - I’m not sure at which version it was in 2012.

But still thanks for the prodding :) - Sep 11 2016
pyRad did not change much: It keeps working and is an integral part of my own workflow. Is there something missing here? - Sep 11 2016
Did you find out more? - Dec 11 2010
You could test this again by running easy_install pyRadKDE. I just uploaded a new version (0.5.3), so this should generate some activity.

If for that version a connection should go to a server which is connected to the domain, then it’s likely that easy_install tests the homepage address in - Nov 29 2010
How do you install it?

(should have asked that from the start) - Nov 27 2010
And besides: There is no reason at all why the script should phone home (at least none I wrote).

Idea: Could you check if this one also phones home on your box?

If yes, it would be a PyQt4 thing.

If no it could be a PyKDE4 thing or a setuptools-thing – or be connected to how your distro handles installed python programs.

That program is just 39 lines, so it should be easy enough for you to doublecheck that I didn’t add any crap in it. - Nov 27 2010
To doublecheck what I write, you can simply check the code:

( calls for the GUI stuff)

What’s very strange is that the second IP seems to be connected to (I just googled for the IP) - Nov 27 2010
Mercurial Repository:

Just clone and run

python --quit; python

(the first stops your running pyrad, the second starts the one from the repo) - Nov 27 2010
That is very strange… I added nothing which could access these URLs.

The only access into the web I do is when you click the flattr-Button in the config pane (right-click the center). And that opens your webbrowser.

Which program / command do you use for tracing it? (I need it to track down the access)

Can you use the version from the Mercurial repository, so we can find the reason for the bug together? - Nov 27 2010
I assume it is pulled in by some dependencies, for example PyQt4. easy_install gets you the package along with its dependencies.

I only specify which packages are needed (PyQt4 and PyKDE4). You can check that in

It could be that setuptools checks the BitBucket website (

I hope you enjoy pyrad! It became an essential part of my own workflow :) - Nov 22 2010
Sorry for taking so long — I’m at the limit of my install debugging with that :(

You might have to ask in the Kubuntu forums how to install PyQt3. - Aug 03 2010
what happens if you just use

apt-get install PyQt-x11-gpl-4.7

apt-get install python-kde4

Did you intstall some stuff by hand (it looks strage, that sip uses a newer API than pykde, without synaptic complaining. - Feb 24 2010
This makes one part clear: Your PyQt4 intstallation failed.

Could you try to get PyQt-x11-gpl-4.6 ?

Best wishes,

PS: Please feel free to ask when something is unclear. We all started as noobs :) - Feb 21 2010
What just came to mind: Do you have KDE 4? - Feb 19 2010
The error means that your ‘sip’ is newer than your PyKDE - you need an older sip.

Why don't you simply install PyKDE from your package manager? There all this hassle schould be taken care of (I yust used `emerge pykde4` on Gentoo).

If you can't do that, you need to see if you can get an older version of sip. Or get a newer version of PyKDE4.

Also you might need to intstall qmake.

(Sorry for the heavy dependencies - it's the only way to access KDE from Python, and most systems with KDE4 should have them preinstalled) - Feb 19 2010
It means “open the program systemsettings, then select the item keyboart shortcuts and add a shortcut - either a gesture or a key-combination"

Before you can do that, you have to download and install PyKDE4 (the second should be `apt-get install pykde4` or so). - Feb 15 2010

And as you can see, the color scheme evokes the spirit of steampunk quite well, given that I use it together with the steampunk themes¹ instead of the color scheme made for that, because it fits better for me :)

I consider NC-licenses as non-free (am I allowed to use the theme on my work-computer? If it boosts my productivity, I effectively make money with it…), but getting away from ND would already be great!

What is your reason for wanting to keep it NC?
That forbids anyone to ship it on a physical CD with KDE… and once you get contributions, you can’t ever get away from the NC again (without asking all contributors), so your theme could never get into KDE as one of the default themes. - Jul 07 2012
I really like the style of this theme, but I just realized that the license makes it non-free :(

Any chance of getting it as cc by-sa or cc by? - Jul 06 2012

Will Kommando be usable with KDE4.1?

It's one of the things I miss most in the beta and the release candidate.

I just thought I'd tell you that Kommando v0.5.2 is already in gentoo sunrise and will soon be in main portage.

Is there a way to add kommando for KDE4?

I just switched up, and the feature I miss the most is my precious kommando-wheel. - Jan 23 2008

It would be great, if I could duplicate a set from one context to another (means: Have a duplicate button which does the same as the new button, but copies my config over to the other one).

Far streched it would also be great, if I could have a minimum config which I can access in all profiles and additional icons which I add there.

That way I could work on the minimum profile to have my standard apps avaible everywhere, and a change in stadard apps could be done in only one profile to affect all profiles, while additions in a profile would only affect that profile.

And it could be possible to remove it from the minimum profile, but have it stay in all other profiles (by copying it over), so I can then remove it from the profiles seperately.

And independent of this wish:
Thanks a lot for your great efforts! Kommando is great, and I think it should become a new standard for computers!
It became the standard for me... - Jun 26 2007

It would be great, if kommando would show the name of the application when I hover over an icon for 3 seconds (and then stay in "show text mode" until I leave the wheel for a moment). - Jun 26 2007
Kommando works great in gentoo.

You can get it via the sunrise overlay.

emerge layman
layman -a sunrise
emerge kommando

The only problem I get is, that I have to visit the preferences window from time to time, because kommando forgot, that it should bind to my keykombo. (Was a while till I discovered this; imwheel did work flawlessly, but kommando didn't take the keys, and I searched the bug in imwheel)

Thanks a lot for kommando!

Besides: would it be possible to include a tool to configure imwheel? - Jun 26 2007

I just searched for worKflow again (I lost touch since I got more proficient in the shell - but I rather prefer GUI tools, more exactly: I want there to be GUI tools, so I can show others to use their computer more efficiently without having to force them into the shell), and I still really dig the idea, so I'd also like to know how you got on with your KDE 4 port.

4.4 is on the horizon, and it would be nice to see worKflow in KDE 4 again.

I think that it has the potential to be a big enabler for normal users, and so it would be a great addition to KDE. - Nov 04 2009

I've been using kjots for some time, now, and I wonder if it would be possible to integrate kblogger and kjots (KDE PIM), so it would be possible to join note-taking and blog posting. With that I'd have all my texts stored in one place and could simply slect which ones I want to publish.

I would sign that and add: The moment religion hinders giving people as much freedom as possible without obstructing others freedom is the moment I stop caring in your beliefs.

Most of our rights and restrictions were created by religious people, so there are still many leftover rights which restrict personal freedom on the base of religious morale. - Apr 07 2009
