You miss the org.kde.kcontrol.kcmgrub2.service file which installs under /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/. Also kcm_grub2.desktop misses from /usr/share/kde4/services/ which is perhaps why you don't see any module installed. And you have installed some files under /usr/ and some other under /usr/local/. Did you mean to do so? - Mar 11 2011

There are good and bad news.

Good news is that the library for manipulating GRUB2 basic configuration settings is code-wise almost complete (shouldn't take more than a few days to complete).

Bad news is that it needs a lot of documentation and due to vacation it was kind of abandoned again. Plus, it's just a library - no user interface is available.

Perhaps I should work on it for a couple of weeks and complete it *at last*, but I can't seem to find the freaking time to do it.. - Aug 03 2010

QGRUBEditor and KGRUBEditor work only with GRUB Legacy, not GRUB 2 which is by default instealled with (K)Ubuntu 10.04.

Check your GRUB version using the "grub-install -v" command. If you get a version number >=1.96 (eg. 1.98 or so) it means you have GRUB 2 installed and both of the above applications are useless.

There is ongoing work on a GRUB 2 configuring application, it should be ready within a month approximately. - Jun 30 2010

Nothing new yet, expect something to come from this summer 2010 and after.

Actually a German community contacted me to inform me that they wanted to develop a KGrub2Editor, but I'm not sure what the current condition of the project is. I think it is stalled, though. - Jan 29 2010

No, this is not the case and I don't know if GRUB2 support will make it for Karmic.

I am too busy to actively develop KGRUBEditor so the development goes on at a very slow pace.

Hopefully I will make a new release (0.9.0) soon, with changes I have been working on for quite some time now. After this, maybe I will try to recruit someone else to maintain the project :S

Plus, I can't find some decent GRUB2 documentation. I can't obviously guess the file syntax of GRUB2. I need some good reference documentation as with GRUB (Legacy). - Jun 09 2009

That's something I too like but I really think that it would be better to create a patch for the "official" lock/logout plasmoid (eg. in the config dialog the user should be able to choose which buttons to show - some users could probably want only the lock button to appear) rather than creating duplicates.

The KDE Team is really nice and would accept such a reasonable feature. Don't be afraid to contact them. If I had more free time, I could probably do this... - Feb 06 2009

This is how 0.0.4 looks over here: http://imagebin.ca/view/eGpvJTm.html

This is the default appearance (I simply drag it over the "Add Widgets" dialog - no resizing etc.).

I am going to test 0.0.5 but I see nothing in the changelog concerning fonts, so I don't expect it to be fixed. - Dec 13 2008

Yes, this feature was available in all KGRUBEditor versions before 0.8.x.

However in the 0.8 release there were heavy changes in the user interface and this checkbox was silently dropped.

It is planned to be included in the next version but I don't know how close this will be. There has been no active development in it for about 1-2 months due to my limited free time.. - Nov 04 2008

I could probably contribute if time permits, but for the time being, I would like to know where I should file bug reports and ask a couple of questions.

So, doesn't KPackageKit have an official web site or an official project page? - Sep 30 2008

Just a reccommendation about the changelog section.

It would be better, to my view, if you only provided the changes of the last 1-2 versions in the Changelog section. Providing all the changelog makes the project page a bit "heavy". The previous changes can be of course be preserved in a ChangeLog file in the tarball.

Yet, if you really want to provide all the changelog in the project page, the latest changes should be always up. The reason for this is because most users that would read the changelog (including me) don't want to scroll down all the page.

Your theme is really nice but there are some small glitches.

First of all, although you mention "changed the widget background because of rendering problems in kde4", you still haven't fixed KRunner's issue. It still has this strange issue.

The shutdowndialog also appears to have a problem over here. - May 23 2008

As I can see, KGRUBEditor is in the Debian list of Prospective packages:
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/prospective,
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=466733

If you want to try KGRUBEditor you could compile from source or convert the openSuSE .rpm package which is always up-to-date.

I am afraid I can offer no other solution, although I will try to do something. - May 02 2008

In his case, if he is trying to compile while not in a KDE4 session, he must do a PATH export.

In (K/X)ubuntu it is done like this:

export PATH=/usr/lib/kde4/bin/:$PATH

On other distros simply change '/usr/lib/kde4/bin/' to the distro's KDE4 bin path.

This export should be done before cmake. - Apr 20 2008

Firstly, there is package for 64-bit users, in the repos.

Secondly, you may install KDE applications under GNOME. Almost all GNOME users have a KDE application installed along with their GNOME ones. Amarok/Konsole/Kate are good examples. KGRUBEditor could be appended to this list. - Mar 17 2008

@carlill0s: it seems that you have problems with the installation of the .desktop files that should appear in the menu. I can't think of something right now other than that your CMake version is old.

If this is the case update CMake to the latest stable version.

What you can do is open the file CMakeLists.txt (as indicated by the error) and remove the lines 69 and 70. You may then manually copy the files ./other/kgrubeditor.desktop and ./other/kgrubeditor-kde.desktop to /usr/share/applications/kde4/

Well the package is 'home-made' (by me) so it isn't perfect. In the hardy repositories there is an official package though.

Concerning the screenshots, I really can't remember the style etc. since I captured them about 6 months ago. I suppose though that the Window Decorations are Crystal, the Style is...well Qt (Plastique) and the icon set is Crystal Clear.

If I'm not mistaken you can find all these in the Ubuntu repos. - Feb 19 2008
