Yes it would be cool, but it's almost impossible. It would imply to write a parser for the html-pages of every single search engine available in babeleo, to extract the informations we want to display from the web-page. Definitely not feasible... And how could manually added search engines be handled? - May 03 2013

Oh I'm really sorry that I didn't notice this message before and didn't answer more early... And that I didn't give the credits to the artist... Never meant to offend the GPL! The original file comes from the Crystal Clear icon set by Everaldo Coelho.
It's released under the LGPL. Sorry that I didn't mention it...

I will put a notice into the description text on this page and will include the credits into the next build.

I just added 2 RPMs for SUSE Linux, made with SUSEs build service. I did not test the 64-bit RPM, but it should be ok. Please give me feedback if you encounter any problems with the RPMs.

The RPMs are built against the openSUSE Factory repository, so they are only guaranteed to work with KDE >= 4.3.

I continue my monologue ;)

I just installed KDE 4.3 on SuSE 11.1, following this howto without problems:

The installation of Babeleo then worked flawlessly. And KDE 4.3 is much cooler than KDE 4.1 ;)

I saw that SuSE 11.1 still ships KDE 4.1.3 as standard KDE-version, but Babeleo needs at least KDE 4.2 to compile correctly There have been lots of changes in the Qt API between KDE 4.1 and KDE 4.2.

If you want to use Babeleo with SuSE 11.1, you will have to update the KDE before. I don't know how difficult it is with SuSE... - Sep 12 2009

Hi,

I think you are missing the package libkde4-devel (that's for SuSE, in Kubuntu it would be kdelibs5-dev).

Install it with Yast or with the command:

Oh I'm so sorry, it was a stupid error of me: I uploaded the wrong archive to the server. I work on 2 PCs at the same time (usng ssh) and I took the archive from the wrong PC, it was one I made a few hours ago, and it still contained some bugs. It causes the crash on my PC too...

I now made a version 0.4.2 and it's the right archive this time :) Please give me some feedback about this one if you are still willing to install it :) Thanx! - Aug 31 2009

did you update the applet from a previous version? In this case, you should absolutely remove the applet from the panel and add it again, like I wrote in the changelog.

If you don't do this, there could be plasma crashes because the format for storing search engines changed between the last versions. Babeleo is in version 0.4, remember it's still an alpha-release!

Please tell me if you updated babeleo or if it was a fresh install... Thanx!

it is not really well suited for use with babeleo...

this one needs cookies that are only generated when the main page of the search engine is accessed:

That means this search engine will only work if the main-page has already been opened in the same browser-instance.

Thanks for the backtrace, there was in fact a bug that caused plasma to crash directly after a fresh install or an update when the user left-clicked on the icon, if he didn't select a search engine before. It was because there was no default search engine selected. I just released a new version without this bug. - Aug 24 2009

yes please send me the backtrace, I don't like my apps causing plasma to crash ;) Did you restart plasma after updating? I should write somewhere that it's important to do this...

I will start a new thread where people can enter good dictionary adresses. I wouldn't put too much of them into the base-installation, because it would look overloaded... Maybe someday I'll add an option to hide some of the available search engines, so that I could include an exhaustive list and set most of them as hidden just after installation...

You can look at the code, it's really easy to add new engines, it's one line per engine. Just look at the syntax in the other lines and reproduce it with your own urls.

I found how I can submit the query to iate using the URL, so I think that in some future version, it will be possible to search on this site :)

Thanx for proposing help! But I don't know whow you could help, unless you are a great Qt guru ;) I'm doing this mostly to learn programming with Qt and plasma, and my first impression is that there are still lots of bugs left in Qt, some things do not feel logical at all, and make programming very difficult... But maybe it's only me being too ignorant ;)

But it cannot be added easily to babeleo, because the query is not reflected in the URL. It seems to use the "struts" java web framework... - Aug 18 2009

yes that would be cool. It would also be nice to add a little mask where users can configure their own query-schemes for other online dictionaries. Usually, the url for a query on an online dictionary has a simple form like:

<URL part 1>query<URL part2>

to configure a new dictionary, the user would have to specify the two parts of the URL, a name for the dictionary and an image file for an icon...

The other function i want to add, is a little textfield where the user can type in the query manually. It would open when you doubleclick the icon.

The icon is the babelfish icon from the crystalsvg design. I only changed the colors :) I'm not sure if I should mention this somewhere to satisfy the GPL...
