For the past couple of weeks, my Gtk2 applications have defaulted to using QtCurve's default, blueish colour scheme instead of my chosen colours. Firefox had also been defaulting to a 12pt Sans font instead of my chosen font.
Looking through the source code tonight, I finally found the problem.
When QtCurve looks through ~/.config/Trolltech.conf, it reads settings from a section called "[Qt]" (title case). The problem is that my section was somehow named "[qt]" (lowecase). All of my other Qt4 and KDE4 programs were able to handle the lowercase [qt] section fine...
Maybe QtCurve could be adjusted to match [Qt] case insensitively? - Feb 25 2008
I love how the border seems to go well with all kinds of colour schemes and backgrounds, and _love_ how the buttons are so easy to adapt to other themes.
It would be awesome if you could make a Help button, as well. - Dec 11 2007

I was impressed by this at first sight, but I wasn't certain how much I'd like this in the long term since I had already modified Kopete's default style to suit my preferences...
But after having used it for almost a month now, I must say I'm still as in love with this style as I was on the first day. ^_^ Beatiful work. - Apr 12 2007

The glow effect on the buttons is brilliant, too. It's been so long since I saw that kind of glow that I had almost forgotten that it's possible for the symbols, rather than their backgrounds, to light... - Apr 03 2007

The rounded glossy reflection on the bottom icon (black frame, blue panel) is interesting... It flicks back and forth in my mind as a reflection from the object versus a reflection near the object (like there's another layer of glass just in front of the visible icon).
The lighting effects on the whitish icon are completely different from those on any of the other icons. Is that one of the ways in which you might be differentiating, for example, mimetype icons and application icons?
I very much appreciate that this theme is not dominated by blue, as so many others are. :D I like the orange/amber on the first line. ^_^ - Mar 20 2007
This theme is indeed beautiful. ^_^ Floating elements on top of floating panels, with floating shapes above them... Whoa. o.O Who knew subtlety could be such such a visual trip?
Even though I can't get KDE4 to run as an environment, and can't even get many individual apps to run, I'll certainly look forward to using something like this! - Mar 19 2007
But there's an issue with the way Beryl handles shaped windows. Mainly, Beryl doesn't try to shadow them, which means that tooltips and menus both seem distinctly lacking in depth. ^^;
This is certainly not a problem with your theme, and more likely a design issue with Beryl, but for those of us who simply must have drop shadows, would you PLEASE consider adding an option for non-rounded menus and tooltips?
I'm so sorry for making a suggestion that breaks the theme's consistency, but... But... Drop shadows! - Mar 17 2007
The lines around buttons seem a little too thick, but I suppose I'll get used to that with time.
It'd be nice to have a way to turn down the thickness/contrast of lines and borders (such as the groupbox frame) without getting rid of the glassy shine on buttons and menu highlights. (Adjusting contrast via the colour scheme affects everything.) - Aug 24 2005

KDE Plasma Screenshots by aivs 8 comments
I am aware that my gripes with the window decoration, in particular, may be valid design decisions on the part of the programmer artist who designed it. I respectfully disagree with those decisions.
The colour scheme, wallpaper, fonts, and pairing of widgets/decorations are well within the control of the person who posted the screenshot, however, so in accordance with his request for comments, I wished to express some unflattering opinions that found themselves to the top of my head.
I am sorry if those opinions came across as rude or presumptuous. - Aug 09 2005

- does not use anti-aliased fonts
- has a window decoration that is highly inconsistent in appearance between active and inactive windows
- has a window decoration whose buttons are visually indistinguishable
- has too much blue
- has an unattractive white border under the panel - Aug 09 2005

This isn't simply a case of having something new to look at. Your icons are so good that there's no way I can forgive myself for not admiring them. I haven't been this impressed since I saw screenshots of Longhorn's Aero Glass look for the first time.
Excellent work. Insane work. Inspired work. - Jun 23 2005

Also, the colour that the border has to match isn't the window background colour, but the statusbar background colour.
In Konqueror, when multiple tabs/views are open, the statusbar background is tinted a few shades brighter than the window background colour, which causes the statusbar to look unflattened again. - Jun 17 2005
If the "Remove subtract-line are from add-line button of scrollbar" option is checked, then a line is drawn between the scrollbar groove and both sets of buttons.
Personally, I think the scrollbars look more attractive without the line separating the buttons and the groove. I'd like an option to make it so that no line separator is drawn for either set of scroll buttons. - Jun 16 2005

If there is to be an Expert Mode button (or mastery level radio buttons), it would need to be persistent. If I click the Expert Mode button once, I want all subsequent config dialogues I call up to default to expert mode. Until I click the Beginner Mode (or whatever) button, at which point it'll all default to beginner mode again.
But persistence like that is not consistent with how the Defaults/OK/Apply/Cancel in config dialogues work. - May 25 2005

The silvery folder icons are very nice. I never understood why so many other icon sets defaulted to blue folders or generally revolved around the colour blue. Most computer monitors I've seen have a high enough default colour temperature that I don't even need any blue to see it everywhere! It's depressing, you know, to be so blue.
I'd personally love to see more green or orange. They're colours that convey motion, excitation, expression, action...
But, ah, I'm rambling.
Excellent work! Please let this eventually grow into a complete icon set. - May 11 2005

They'd be even better if there was a decay rate that would cause colour A to fade completely to colour B before it reached the opposite edge of the menu, like maybe at the 1/4 point. :) - Feb 28 2005
Some combo boxes and some toolbar buttons (Firefox toolbar, GKrellM Net config, Gimp config) in GTK-Qt are now entirely coloured by the button/combobox prelight colour regardless of whether the "only for inner circumference" option is set.
Website form buttons and combo boxes are also not following the "inner circumference only" option for prelighting.
I can't seem to figure out what the decay gradient options do... - Feb 27 2005

The ability to tweak the speed of progress bar animations, the small and unobtrusive scrollbars, and the translucent slider are very nice touches. Lightweight comboboxes look fabulous with that subtly coloured arrow and border. Buttons from Active Heart are a plus, too, I like them much better than ThinKeramik's buttons.
There are only two things that can use a little improvement. As mentioned by others, the scrollbar groove looks too much like a button; the scrollbar handle looks like it's sitting on top of the groove rather than in it.
When I use the inner-circumference button prelight and mouse over a dialogue's default button, a weird shading artifact appears along the top and left edges just inside the highlighted circumference.
If I may request a feature, please make it possible to use gradiented menu stripes (stripe colour fades to menu background colour) like in the Lipstik style. - Feb 15 2005

I experienced one last X freeze when logging out and back in after I installed 0.7.4 (the first bordered window I opened after I logged back in froze it), but haven't been able to reproduce it.
I suppose we can call it fixed, at least in my case. :) - Dec 23 2004

I have to kill kwin (SIGKILL), edit kwinrc to use a style other than crystalgl, then restart kwin. Otherwise, it'll freeze again when kwin tries to paint a border around any window.
Once kwin is up and running, switching back to crystalgl is not a problem. - Dec 23 2004

It'd be nice if the Title Button colour settings could be followed.
In response to a comment made above, I like having the window title tab thing locked to one side. It makes good screenshots easier to set up, or something. That said, I would like an option to lock it to the right side instead of the left. - Apr 17 2004

Lack of a "light weight" editable combobox widget is exactly why I never stayed with ThinKeramik for long. I'm very glad that you focus so much on configurability. - Apr 01 2004
