I agree about the estetic decisions. A shade for the oxygens might have been possible, but I like it anyway. BTW, if we think about the darker atoms being the nitrogens, then you misplaced one :)

Yes, I like the idea of other molecular wallpapers too, of open source hacking molecules. I'm not much of a graphics guy though, but they would fit nicely into other chemistry-on-the-desktop initiatives. - Oct 09 2006

Indeed, looks very nice. But as a concerned chemist: it would be nice if the compound did not just look nice but was identifable as well? For example, what happened to double bonds, and the oxygens?? What about just adding the InChI somewhere on the page, e.g. down the bottom? That would make me feel a lot more comfortable.

Oh, forgot to mention this, but we will need a patch for this that adds a tab to the Properties window (right click in Konqueror -> Properties). (Besides a patch for the strigi library method to set and get the keywords.) - Jun 17 2006

It is unclear to me what Tenor is going to do, but like Kat, Strigi is soon supposed to have integration with KDE's kfile plugins, which I'll try to implement this weekend. I'll also try to add xattr support, which will make things possible which Tenor is about (I think):

- user data keywords as metadata
- record of last (KDE) program that openend a file
- other kinds of metadata, such as the chemical InChI

These can easily be stored as xattr, and I think it's easy to index those with Strigi...

Maybe we can do some funny stuff... like add an action 'Open with Kalzium' to show the periodic table with the elements highlighted that were 'used' in the file.
E.g. say the file contained benzene, it would make all elements but carbon and hydrogen grey, and C and H highlighted in some way. - Sep 15 2005
