I was going to ask for a "steel" theme (i was going to call it "metallica") here for ages, but never had the courage, in this sea of blue glass and water ;-)
Your icons are really WAY beyond what i had imagined, really something different!
keep up the good job!

And I love the toolbar buttons! a
bit like the ones in the "new" crystal, but better.
keep up the good work!
fred
BTW
i don't think that just because Crystal is all the rage now, the other icons sets are "dead". An iconset doesn't have to evolve perpetually. Ikons is older than Crystal and was pretty finished when everaldo came along ...

Just some remarks:
1.the desktop icon is actually not ugly, but the "desk" looks too much like glass, thus breaing the metaphor of the icon
2. the arrows icons in the toolbar are geat! much better than the classic crystal ones! for those who find them too colourful, you can leave the option of having the grey icons.
3. the terminal and control center icons in kicker are too much like XP, sorry. IMHO the classic icons were better.
4. the new CD icon is great! all device icons should be likw that: slightly turned and with a shadow
i could go on, but i stop here.
Thanks everaldo!

Yes, some icons become too small in the "drop", but remember that the author did not design the original icons. Some other icons, on the other hand, come out great in their "marble" form! Icon designers should also consider people who do not use 64x64 for their icons ... Crystal for instance,, imho, looks pretty bad in anything smaller than 64x64 ... - May 20 2002

Don't get me wrong, i do like the icons, but i had to open them in GIMP to be able to "look inside" them ... - May 10 2002

1. we need to know what the competition is up to. There are very talented people designing themes for windows, and we want to copy (yes, copy, let's call things with their name) the best things they do. And i, for one, having stopped using windoze in 95, would have never found such a theme.
2. It is not only perfectly OK to copy the interfaces of other OSes, we HAVE to do it! If someone wants an XP, OSX, Nextstep, Amiga etc. etc. look on their KDE, they have the right to have it and we must offer them. Open source is about choice, no?
As for this particularly theme, I like it a lot! I think it makes an excellent light gray, bright. theme!
Here on k-l.org, there is screenshot ("doug's desktop", I think) that is based on the same idea, and is actually better, IMHO.
The author promised to do a theme out of it, but it never cameout, sadly .. (hint)

And no, in my opinion, the device icons are not too small ...
Keep up the good job!

1. Even if the implementation is flawed, the idea behind this theme is original (no blue! THANKS!) and originality should be encouraged.
2. Visually impaired people NEED a black and white high contrast (no grays) interface

If there is a "send comment" section here it is because we all here have very precise (sometimes!) and divergent (often!) ideas on what is a nice, cool, functional GUI. Here we can voice these opinions, and artists can take them into account. Feedback makes all the difference.
So it does make sense to post here a "prototype" of a single icon, as all the comments show.
This is no place for people that think that designing eye-candy is a race, "me made 20 icons!" and such. This is a collborative effort to get a better looking KDE.
peace out!
Fred

But what i like about your icons (i don't know whether that was intentional) is the fact that all the icon have the same shape. With the new trend towards 3D, colourful, icons, is much more difficult to get consistency between the different icons. To "frame" the icons in a cristal looking button could be a solution to get consistency and let the artists be creative at the same time. - Apr 26 2002

as for your theme, the colour scheme is quite OK (it's the one i am using now) bu the style is way too bright, completely unusable by me. I do like the idea and the choice of colours, though! Tune down the brightness a little and it will be ok.

What about changing the view slightly, so that the trash is seen from the top?
