Don't remove anything. I'm by no means asking that this icon set be removed. I'm a gnome fan just like I'm a KDE fan. I was just requesting that we a as a community not overlook giving people credit for all their hard work. I hope that this icon set does well, but let's work together to insure that everyone gets credit for their work. - Dec 23 2004

You've got to build the icon set first, then install it. Unpack the archive in a folder and run the buildscript with the following command: ./buildscript

Follow the instructions that will appear after you run the script and you should be able to successfully install and use the icon set. - Dec 23 2004

Now normally, this would be the part were I would go back off on you with a tiraid that matches the one in your previous post, however, because this is the Christmas season, I'm just going to say that I'm sorry my package has caused you such grief. I created the script which builds this icon set, because free webspace comes at a premium these days. Once this package is fully built, it is very large, and I just cant spare the space. You may be corect in saying that Linux is far from being mainstream because of scripts and the requirment that you have to know a little about computing, but, an educated user is a better user, so if you take the time to learn something, it can only help you. There's not mush else I can say other than if you absoultely can't build the full icon set, send me an email, and I'll find some space for the fully built set for you to download. Have a merry Christmas, and know that both God and I love you and wish you the very best. Meeeeeeeeeeeeeery Christmas and a happy New Year - Dec 23 2004

While I certainly don't mind you posting these icons, I think you should give me some credit for creating the original release for KDE. Mimin Ladha granted me permission to not only post some his icons, but also modify them, which I did. You conveniently left out the fact that what you've actually posted is a Gnome port of the KDE release, which took a lot of work to release. I'm not angry about the Gnome release, because I like the Gnome desktop. However, I'm not fan of someone ripping off someone elses work and taking credit for it without mentioning the original creator. Yes, you did mention Mimin Ladha, but I'm certain you had very little idea that many of these icons have been altered by yours truly. The least you could have done is post a link to the original release on kde-look.org.BVC had the decency to do so in his port of the Milosz_H30-D3A icon set I posted on kde-look.org and I happily gave him the distrobution specific I cons that were originally created only for KDE. To make a long story short, dont rip someone elses work without asking or at least giving them credit. I'm happy that this wa done to aid the children that lost their school, so I hope everyone that uses gnome downloads them, but let's make sure everyone get credit for their contributions to the open source community. - Dec 03 2004

The IcOSX Icon set featured a few icons from Jaguar and Apple never complained, so hopefully they wont complain about OS-L either. - Oct 02 2004

Well, here's what I would suggest. Rip all the Gnome 2.8 Icons, put them in a build kit, and publish them for everyone to use with their KDE desktops. I'll never claim that one set of icons is "better" than another, however, some icon designers change the way users view their desktop because of their artistic prowis. Whether you like photorealistic icons or not, who can deny that their the most prominent and unique feature of OS X from an artistic point of view. That influence alone has caused every desktop maker to push additional funds to the art departments. And, while you'll scream you don't like the look of OS X until your dying day, I don't believe it for a minute. :-) - Oct 01 2004

Icon Sub-Sets by guppetto 74 comments

OS X is bueatiful to me, however, I wouldn't classify it as the reigning champion of eye candy. I think Linux has OS X beat in that department for the simple fact that Linux can morph to match any OS. I can make my Linux desktop look like XP, OSX, or any other OS you can think of. Or better yet, I can combine various styles to create a desktop that has a look that no one ever imagined. OS-L isn't meant to copy OS X. I compiled this icon kit to give Linux users a chance to provide their own interpretation of the photorealistic look and feel. If you look at some of the other Icon set that I have posted (Exqusite, H3O-D3A) you'll discover that I like to dable with Icon set's that push the boundaries in terms of their design. OS-L provides each Linux user a chance to say; if I was going to design a desktop with photo realistic icons, what would it look like. - Sep 27 2004

Use the KDE Icon Build Kit:

http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=14789

to build an installable icon package and publish the file. Or, if you intend to continually update and add icons, publish the unbuilt W I C D OpenOffice unbilt kit so that users can build their own installable icon package. The kit will create the icons in various sizes, and should cut down on the work you have to do.

Check out some of the icon set that I've created using the kit.

The beauty of using the build kit is the fact that before you build the icon set, you can replace any of the icons you don't like with replacement icons. Remove the taskbar icons and then build the icon set. - Sep 15 2004

If you installed both versions, try the following command to locate the convert binary.

locate convert

If the above command returns nothing, refresh your urpm sources and perform the following

urpmf convert

Next, install any updated version of Imagemagik and once again execute

locate convert

after you find the binary file

place a link to the file in the usr/bin or user/local/bin directory.

If you can't find the convert binary, you may wan't to unistall both versions of image magic, reboot your box and reinstall one of the versions.

Let me know if this doesn't work.

Any chance a crystal/liquid blue style throbber could be added to the Goodies folder in the next release. I like the flat black throbber, but a liquid blue and black version would be cool. The Baghira Crystal logo immediately comes to mind if you need an example.

Attach to Email Service Menu

Dolphin Service Menus by dschrader 110 comments

This script is great, but it has a behavior that is unexpected. If I have my mail client open and I attach an item to an email, after I press the send button, the script immediately kills my mail client. This would be a desired behavior if my mail client is not currently running. However, if I currently am using the client this should not occur. Perhaps you could check, via dcop, whether or not a mail client is currently running prior to adding the attachment. If so, the client would remain open. If no client is running then the script would launch the client and close it once the send signal is executed. - Aug 24 2004

KWin drop shadow patches

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by Deciare 134 comments

I know exactly how to apply this patch if I build KDE myself, but I've installed Mandrake 10 and the default kde directory setup is located in /usr. That being said, urpmf kdefx provides the following:

libkdecore4:/usr/lib/libkdefx.la
libkdecore4:/usr/lib/libkdefx.so.4
libkdecore4:/usr/lib/libkdefx.so.4.2.0
libkdecore4-devel:/usr/lib/libkdefx.so

and

(/usr/lib:$)-> ls | grep kwin*

libkdeinit_kwin.la*
libkdeinit_kwin.so*

provides the following. Am I going to have to compile the Standard KDE lib source files to get the patch to work. I dont wont to install them on top of Mandrake 10. I would rather patch Mandrakes version of the KDE libs (they like to modify the files a bit), but I'm not sure where to find the source files with Mandrake. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Repeat. How do I apply this patch to Mandrake 10? - Aug 07 2004
