I don't currently have pyKDE installed. There isn't an rpm available for it that I've seen, and I've been too lazy to compile it myself. :-p My processor is an Athlon64 3200+.
Here's my soundmania config file:
VERSION = "030000"
updateinterval = 200
theme = "aero-g-round"
buttonset = "default"
player = "amarok"
playerlist = ['amarok', 'xmms', 'juk', 'kaffeine', 'noatun', 'kscd', 'kaboodle', 'rhythmbox']
textred = 255
textgreen = 255
textblue = 255
textshadow = 1
font = "DejaVu LGC Sans"
font_size = 11
showbitrate = 1
display_albumcover = 1
image_rendering = "imagemagick"
scan_cover_image = 1
show_progressbar = 1
pbarcolor = "light"
show_remaining_time = 0
mirror = "alternate"
effects = 1
round = 1
fetch = 0
scroll_text = 1
shadowcover = 1
textshift = 1
textshiftver = -5
encoding = "utf_8"
play_ra = 0
pykde_on = 0
language = ""
theme_path = "/home/john/.superkaramba/soundmania/currentver/"
keep_aspect = 0
widget_mode = "classic"
As for the CPU usage, I usually find it at 100% when I've left the computer alone for a while. I think once it did do it while I was sitting here, and it seemed to build up gradually, but I'm not sure. I'll load up the theme and keep an eye out for it.
Thanks,
-John - Apr 13 2008

When the cpu usage for X jumps to 100%, .xsession-errors fills with a lot of this message:
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
Major opcode: 20
Minor opcode: 0
Resource id: 0x3222b5b
The resource id changes every time. If I run soundmania from console, I get the same message. Since this problem is new with Mandriva 2008, it most likely is because of something they changed, but so far the only response I've gotten in their forums is "Superkaramba has been known to cause problems like that." (They're usually more helpful than that there...) So I wanted to see if that error meant anything to you and if you might have any ideas.
If it matters:
Mandriva 2008
KDE 3.5.7
Superkaramba 0.42
Soundmania 3.0 (though had same issue with 2.7.6)
Thanks,

Could it be that the version of a prereq has changed since 2.7.6 (which works fine), or that the old config info for 2.7.6 is messing it up?
Thanks,

At that point superkaramba completely locks up. The same happens with v14.8. As usual, it's probably due to something weather.com did... :-p

I tried all of the combinations of PyKDE/no PyKDE and auto/amarok and still get the same results. I also adjusted the smoothness slider and completely turned scrolling off. No dice.
However, I found some other interesting things... If I closed amarok and reloaded soundmania, no spikes. It seems to only happen if amarok is open but not playing anything, until I click stop in soundmania. I also tried switching the player to kaffeine. If kaffeine was closed, I got the same as if amarok was closed, no spikes. If kaffeine was open and not playing anything, I didn't get spikes, but the CPU held at about 35% instead of the normal 7%. If I then closed kaffeine without touching soundmania, the CPU rose to about 70% and held steady there, until I clicked stop in soundmania and it dropped back to 7%.
I can try some other players as well, but it seems to be something when the selected player is open but idle when soundmania loads, and it doesn't realize it is idle until you click stop.
Anything else I can try? I'm having fun trying to hunt this down! :-p - Jun 10 2007

Karamba & Superkaramba by ogetbilo 289 comments
The spikes will also happen if the music is playing and I click stop *in amarok* instead of in soundmania, and will continue until I restart the music or click stop in soundmania.
It seems like the theme is expecting amarok to be playing music, and checking for it every two seconds until the music does start or I tell it that nothing is happening.
Any ideas? It's obviously easy for me to click stop when I so infrequently reboot the computer, so I'm not really bothered by it, but it's an interesting phenomenon and I'm curious if you've come across it. I don't know if it might cause problems on slower machines. The main annoyance for me is that the spikes prevent the cool n' quiet drivers from dropping the cpu frequency down to idle, so it ends up staying at the higher frequency and running hotter. Of course, I'm the smart one who put the computer in the hottest room in the house... ;-) - May 24 2007

Take a look at the dark box on the right. Looks like your MicroPhoto and my Micro (which says "PlaysForSure" on the box, so I presume it uses MTP) don't work with libnjb, so then things like KZenExplorer won't see them. :-(
I followed the link to the libmtp site, and it lists a few apps which support MTP devices (under the "downstream" header). One is for Mac OS X, and two seem intended for Gnome, but I will try them anyway when I get home and report back with what I find.
Mussgill: Any chance of an updated KZenExplorer to support MTP devices? :-D - Aug 08 2006

You're right, there are plenty of Americans who are prudes and freak out about the slightest thing. Personally, I'm annoyed by their bitching and, therefore, the media's portrayal of all Americans being like that. But that's my problem, not yours. I'm glad you acknowledge it's not everyone! :-) :-p - Mar 02 2006

Cursors by jlue 313 comments
I ran your script and, at the time, nothing changed. However, shortly after that, I reinstalled the i586 version of Mandriva 2006, since I was having problems with some 3rd party apps under x86_64 and had decided the performance boost wasn't worth the hassle for now. As usual, I formatted the root partition, but left /home alone. On the first boot, the comix cursors showed up and work everywhere! The only minor caveat is that firefox displays the open hand cursor on links instead of the pointing hand, but I'm honestly not worried about that.
I really have no idea what the problem was before! :-p Perhaps its just another quirk of 64 vs 32 bit, like something looking for /lib when it needs /lib64 or something like that...
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that the cursors are working everywhere now and I love it! Thanks again for all your hard work! - Jan 24 2006

They sure made the "yahoo weather widget" look a lot like liquid weather ++! Of course, I'm sure our superkaramba themes are way better than any of the equivalent widgets! If only people knew we'd been doing this for years... :p - Dec 23 2005

Only trouble I'm having is that Firefox completely ignores them and uses the default black X cursors... Could it be because I'm using the Mandriva RPM for Firefox instead of Mozilla's installer? - Dec 23 2005

Any news on this? I took a look at the PyQT website and couldn't find anything there.
I was excited to get my new Athlon because the old Celeron 366 I had was too slow to run soundmania! :-p

LWP 6.0 was working fine for me until I rebooted my system. Now the theme appears to be running, but it isn't visible. SK tells me it's there and I see a brief flash of a rectangle where it should be when I switch desktops, but otherwise I can't see it.
Here's what Konsole has to say about it:
