Oh Wow, so sorry for the (rediculously) late reply. Graduation and everything has kept me away from gimp for far too long. Anyways, if you're still interested, start off with a new layer and use gimp's "SuperNova" filter (under lighting effects) a few times. Then use "iWarp" on that layer and move things about. The swirlcw and swirlccw is really the main tool, but use the grow to increase the intensity of the "flame." Thank for the interest :P - May 31 2008

Look man,... I may agree with what you say as far as replicating vista/w$, but who exactly do you think you are? This is fucking open source for a reason. Personally I think the vista-esque styles are not very attractive, bu obviously effort went into this and other people have different taste.
