So after you came up with the images, did you run and merge it with tiles.h?

You *did* read the documentation right?
;) - Sep 30 2005
For the buttons, I would keep the height of the biggest button to be less than the height of the titlebar. Other than that, size is up to you. Alter the button sizes of the template and see what happens.

For rounding corners and transparencies (like the third screenshot) you have to adjust the masks by hand. Its up to you whether or not you want to make the png transparent. For reference I would, but the masks are handling transparencies. (FYI masks are handled and documented in your kwin/packagename.cpp file). - Sep 28 2005
3468 downloads? And not one generated yet? Come on, all those window decoration concept / prototypes can be made now! - Sep 28 2005
Created the pngs by hand from screenshots on of the element window decoration.

Thanks for the comments, what changes did you make to the script? - Sep 27 2005

Ooh, okay. I'll have to check out Glass when I can. Maybe you could point me to where I could look within your source? - Sep 26 2005
I'm on Gentoo in 64 bit, I remember that enable-libsuffix option from my days with Fedora though. How quickly I forget things like that when moving to Gentoo. :)

Thanks too, I'll incorporate a check for a 64 bit version when I can. - Sep 26 2005
More specifically and to the point, it's just like AKDC. Fancy shmancy but with the color restrictions. Care to hack the engine for me? ;) - Sep 14 2005
From what I can tell, the AKDC engine was about to include colorizing according to kcontrol but Rafael never got around to it. So currently there hard-coded to the PNGs.

So yeah, the color restriction is there but to be able to crank out window decorations from PNGs, fully native, is even simpler than the ice's decorations. And I've got the added benefits of transparency (screenshot 3). Something sorely missed in the kde icewm engine. - Sep 14 2005
what are you comparing to kwin decorations?

the packages I generate? Because they _are_ kwin decorations... - Sep 14 2005
I'm using the AKDC engine by Rafael Castillo Huggins under the QPL license. My intentions are to let gimp users who want to build KDE window decorations (i.e., me :) build full native packages based on the PNG images supplied. The end result is a tarball (non-binary, redistributable) to be configured and built. So essentially, if you can hack on the AKDC or any KWin engine for that matter, you've got a good start with this method. - Sep 13 2005
That's exactly what it is. No frontends or anything but I'm pretty notorious for making things simple and easy to use.

I can currently generate a window decoration in the form of a tarball with a customized name. Once I get to a releasable version, it should be as simple as creating 26 individual PNG images used for the window borders and titlebars and running a script. - Sep 11 2005
Icons are available here:

Color scheme isn't anything special, its probably the hacked version of Lipstik you're looking at with interest. I could generate a patch for that. - Sep 09 2005
Sure is! But the point is that hopefully I can come up with mechanisms that allow the gimps among us to create and port window decorations with limited if not 0% coding. - Sep 09 2005
You above all people should realize I didn't release anything. It's a prototype screenshot I wanted comments on.

Just like the icons on the desktop, I ported the windows decoration to KDE for my personal use. - Sep 09 2005

Excellent man, you're going above and beyond gtk-qt-engine and taking things to the next level. You've got an excellent base, perhaps some gnome control center, kcontrol modules so the software is desktop-agnostic. Other than that, I'd personally like to see improved msstyles support. Keep up the good work! - Sep 02 2005

We need more dark themes. Not all of us KDE users are from the mickey mouse club...
Quick suggestion, try tweaking the "all" setting of your icons, maybe darken them up a bit or desaturate them? - Aug 21 2005

I agree man. Unfortunately, I'm hard-pressed to have KDE look as good in dark schemes as it does with light schemes. We need some color schemes and kstyles specifically made for us coders. - Aug 20 2005

I appreciate it - believe me. Patches would be nicer but hey, who am I to nitpick. Anyway - I hope to resolve a lot of issues by switching engines. - Jun 18 2005

Try the "disable scrollbar border" option as well. And select the exact same color for the scrollbar grooves as you do for the scrollbar buttons. - Jun 16 2005

I would have a release date if I had help. I can do the coding and graphic work, but I've got an empty sourceforge website, no testers, no translators... :( So to answer your question, um, when 2.0 is ready it will be released. ;) - Jun 02 2005

Already done in 2.0.

> just buttons)

Be careful with your use of the word *all*. Maybe radios and checkboxes first?

Scrollbars are done too. - Jun 01 2005
Better yet - that's such a trivial thing to do - send a patch. :) - May 31 2005

I think you're using bash? If so,
  • export CVSROOT=""

  • cvs login

  • [no password, enter]

  • cvs co tiblit

  • Give that a shot. And I think "grrr" was deprecated. ;) - Apr 27 2005
I got that same comment about 7 revisions ago. It's been fixed for a while although the scrollbars are constantly under revision. - Apr 27 2005

You should be popping up the menu on the mouse pressed event, not the mouse released event.

What about the menu position location? I'd suggest popping the menu up at a position more closely relative to the applet, i.e., like kmenu. - Jun 05 2005

A suggestion to keep in mind - you're teetering on the brink of colors that are too vibrant. There's a big difference between viewing icons like these on CRTs versus LCDs and the like. Excellent style, keep up the good work. - May 19 2005
