The sound icon shows up properly in the "Add Items to Panel" dialog, but it does not show up in the sound widget on on the panel - that just shows the (hideously ugly) default icon. - Dec 12 2008

The close button in the Metacity theme is not far enough from the window edge, which gives it a kind of weird look. Otherwise though this theme is great. - Jul 26 2008

The Gnome power manager icon is still the default one when a machine is not on battery.

Awesome theme, BTW. - Jun 21 2008
Could you upload the re-colorized Brit icons you use with this theme? Thanks... - Jun 21 2008
It would be nice if the scrollbars were less fat. As it is they take up a kind of ridiculous amount of space.

Other than that, though, this is very good. I especially like the metacity theme, which (finally!) looks good with themes like Dyne and Nova as well as Murrine. - Jun 05 2008

These icons are actually compatible with XFCE. Awesome job, man, anyone who actually bothers to do that with their icon set deserves some recognition.

Looks great under Gnome too. Only a few icons aren't being used right:

- The icon for Epiphany is the default. Not sure why.

- The networkmanager icons don't show up if there's no wireless network (and therefore no signal strength to indicate). For now maybe just use the max signal strength icon for wired networks?

- I think the volume manager may still be using the Gnome default icon.

- The power manager icon is still Gnome default; I'm not sure if this is because the replacement is missing or if it's a real bug.

Still, in spite of this - awesome icon set. And don't listen to the people who whine about it being imitation Mac, it looks a lot closer to Tango. - Jun 02 2008

Most of these are d3w aren't they? If so, the d3w GTK theme should have some of the action icons you're looking for.

(If you can find it. I've been looking around and I can't. :( )

but it has compatibility problems.

No, seriously - this theme actually makes XFCE look good. But it needs action icons and other GTK compatibility stuff, very badly; otherwise applications use fallback icons, which look like garbage. - May 19 2008

Okay... Metacity is now one shade of gray for selected and one for unselected. It would be better to give both selected and unselected the same color, i.e. that of the GTK theme's default background.

Also, selected taskbar entries are still white-on-white and highlighted ones are gray-on-gray, making them completely unreadable. Menu entries are fixed though.

My advice is that you look at other Murrine themes, e.g. Murrina-clean, and compare them to this theme to see what could be wrong. - Jan 10 2008

Instead of displaying the same gray color as the GTK theme, metacity themes designed to emulate GTK colors will be black for selected windows and white for unselected windows. Believe it or not, some people aren't using Openbox with this theme. - Dec 23 2007

This theme isn't just incomplete, it doesn't work. When it is selected in the theme manager none of the icons are used. I don't mean "many icons fail to appear", I mean "not a single one shows up, and the ugly default theme is used instead". The index.theme needs to be fixed, badly. - Dec 23 2007

Icon Sub-Sets by Mandarancid 10 comments

This is a great theme but the up, forward, and back action icons could stand to be changed IMHO. They just don't fit in with the rest of the theme, both in terms of size and general appearance. Simpler icons, e.g. based on the "<" and ">" symbols (with right angles) might be better.

(Also, it might be good to add some 16x16 icons, so that the toolbar icons aren't so huge on low-resolution displays.) - Oct 14 2007

Well, it's pretty nice... IMHO though you should try making the Metacity theme a lot slimmer. Think 3-pixel borders on the sides and bottom, with the top slimmed down accordingly. - Sep 16 2007

No 16x16 icons in the GTK icon theme, and I think something's wrong with the index.theme - the icons don't show up at all, anywhere, in any size.

(BTW, I'm pretty sure the GTK icon theme should work with Rhythmbox... what's up with the separate icons?) - Sep 12 2007

First off... this theme is great.

Now the suggestions...

- The menu highlights should probably be gray or blue-tinted gray, IMO. Maybe the color used for a depressed button (e.g. the play button in a media player while it's playing something). The progress bar I'm not so sure about; maybe the aforementioned color... Or maybe the one used for highlighted list entries.

- I think the scrollbars could be a little bit narrower. Maybe the menubars (and tabs?) could be slimmed a little too, though I'm not actually sure that's possible with GTK2... - Jul 01 2007

Beryl/Emerald Themes by ianare 14 comments

I think the problem is less that that the themes are Vista themes than that there more than a dozen Vista themes on this site that are essentially identical in just about every detail.

I'll reserve criticism on this one, since it is differently colored and therefore has a rationale for existing. Still: if you're going to post a "new" Vista (or OSX, or BeOS, or whatever) theme, it is probably a good idea to check out similar themes to make sure you're not just wasting space. - Feb 11 2007

Beautiful icons, but the gtk-media-previous-ltr icon is missing from both the PNG and SVG sets (it should be a copy of gtk-media-next-rtl). Also, the Trash icon doesn't show up at large sizes - the fallback is used instead. - Jan 11 2007

1. Name should be "Murrina[whatever]". "Murrine" is plural.

2. This is definitely not a Milk-like theme, it is too dark and uses blue where Milk uses off-white. Should be "Murrina-Aqua" or something like that. - Jan 07 2007

Gnome 3.0 Mockup Mysahl

Various Gnome Stuff by nysosym 9 comments

I shouldn't have to say again that what the mockup shows is impossible with GTK or any other toolkit... But let me say again:

You cannot have the window frame and the menu toolbar occupying the same space. This is not possible; what's more, it would be a pain in the neck if it were possible.

Also, the rest of the mockup is rather ugly. Putting dropdown menus in tabs is redundant, there are too many tooltips, no scrollbars... Look, I appreciate the effort you put into this, nysosim, but it isn't going to work. - Jun 29 2006
