Or u can have two functions one where it pops up when something is new and waits for a few moments before it times out and disappears.
It should then be added to a list on the sidebar so that the user can check it whenever whatever he wants. And as he checks them out they disappear.
When the user logs out, the item list on the sidebar gets purged. Or wait in the interest of session management should it be retained? Not sure.

Anyhow let this matter be resolved once and for all. kde-look doesn't mean justartwork, but also all UI related stuff.

Some time back I remember having an argument about whether 'look' in kde-look represented UI design or merely artwork. We finally never agreed on anything, but the fact that from time to time ppl do post offtopic here regarding the UI is that to the end user, this seems a logical place to post, even though for us regulars it isn't.
Maybe this site should have a link saying Feature requests plz post here kind of thing? Then newbies know that there is a place specifically like for stuff.
Also I think kde.org as such could use a little rewamping. Nothing wrong with the existing design I mean it has all the links, but there are better ways to present stuff. For that matter I really like kde-look.org site's design better with its organisation for different stuff. But then kde.org has so much information and so many links to present to that it may be difficult to organise it in the same way.
There are a lot of holes in my reasoning. But I think, I am getting the point across?
And no i am not trolling. This is simply an expression of my humble opinion. You are free to disagree, and I would really like to hear ur opinion.
Of course this is also totally offtopic :-) - May 19 2003

Cursors by MasterSeven 56 comments
Only one thing, and i guess its probably only me, but tux(the face atleast looks more like a raven than a penguin in this. Not that i have anything against ravens, but could u make tux a bit more chubbier faced more like the orignal tux ??
Thanks a million for making the best cursor set in the history of WIMP (windows icons mouse pointers that is) atleast according to me - Mar 10 2003

this was about designing clean ui Since elmo seems to aim towards a very clean look, thought this might help.
And before anyone asks NO i am not trying to support gnome. I am strictly neutral.
and ok this probably goes against what i posted above but what about the option of transparent dot net style menus :) - Feb 04 2003

Have an option of a sticky card, If the sticky option is removed, the card disappears when the mouse is moved off (kind of like the taskbar thingummy in windows) that way everybody is happy.
Just a suggestion make the K bigger definitely like a logo kind of thing (on two rows) and let the quick launch items appear in two rows. This will distinguish this as a special K card.
Now if the cards can be translucent when not selected this would make them convinient to stay on top sort of thing, even if u are running a window fullscreen. Or u can have a special card key to make them appear even when ur running a window fullscreen.
These are just suggestions. I spent sometime trying to visualise the practical implications of using cards and his is what i came up with. Hope these are useful.

But just a small suggestion. Can the K button alone not be made a card? My idea is like a maybe a right triangular K button (A bit curved on the hypoteneuse convexing towards the edge of the screen or jagged?) expanding to both rows of the card, and quick luanch items appearing in both the rows.
(This way the K is on
the edge nobody can miss it :)
When u click the K button the card along with he quick lauch shoots up but the K remains at the left bottom.
Why I am asking this is I have this habit of clicking K to launch the menu and clicking K again to close it, in case i suddenly change my mind. In ur pic the logout button appears where the k would normally be after the card is selected :).Call me lazy but a card does nullify this advantage of a menu.
i also think a bigger K button would be more helpful. That way even ppl switching from windows will have a easier time.("Hey there is that big K sticking out against the smaller buttons, it has to be the start button"):)

I kind of like the round buttons on the title bar goes pretty well with the oval title area if u aren't used to the orignal style that is :).But a lot of ppl won't so i guess its the good thing its an option.
How about also putting an option for close miimize maximise symbols to appear floating in the round buttons (yes i know aqua doens't use that but its just a suggestion).
Off topic but seeing kword i just wanted to ask. Does anybody know when an export filter for MS word will be ready for kword.
I love kword 1.2 it's got everything i need, except this:(. (I share docs with ppl at work who use word)

A small request. Would u join the community icon project. and just a small idea. The marbles could actually be used as say a marker. Like if a folder were locked then it would have a red marble around it. Or even better make the marble an emblem (provided they add that in kde of course) like how they have in nautilus. Or maybe marles could be used to indicate applications and non marbles for devices file systems etc. The possibilities are end less.
Good work and plz join the community project.
