K Menu Idea

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by dalore 10 comments

ok, but reading "Everything about..." is also too long. The category should maybe placed at beginning of that sentences like: "Internet applications". "Office applications".
The bold header is good.

but generally it would be nice, if Kmenu could be totally themeable while offering standard and common features. - Aug 27 2005
K Menu Idea

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by dalore 10 comments

at first i though, "not bad", but, my opinion is, that it is more difficult or unergonomic to find a special application in the list. the eyes have to make many comparisons.
the current kmenu is already very good organized, it is just a little bit too high. actually it provides nearly the similar functions like XP's Start-Menu, the only disadvantage is the height. - Aug 26 2005

YES! thanks it worked fine :)
but i didn't remove the whole "call", i think it is something like a "cast".
i changed:
... new KAction(i18n((*it).m_strName), ...

to

... new KAction((*it).m_strName, ...

and:

box->setText(i18n((*it).m_strName));

to

box->setText((*it).m_strName);

no, i compiled it in SuSE 9.3 Professional, on AMD 64bit machine. compiled fine.. and this version runs right from start.. with earlier versions, i got problems, but this works in every konqueror window.

very often compile erros appear because of missing devel-packages. did you really install every needed devel-packages ? at first i got an error too, because i forgot to install kdebase3-devel. it is needed because "konquisidebar" is part of that package.

i compiled it (using krpmbuilder) with prefix (64bit system):
--prefix=/opt/kde3/
--with-qt-libraries=/usr/lib/qt3/lib64/
--enable-libsuffix=64

the same problem here... i think SuSE 9.3 is using utf8 as default characterset, but "Actions" Menu in Metabar doesn't show german special characters..

by the way, is it possible to change the background color for Metabar-background ?
currently it white, like (default) window background color.

Tux Start Button (Updated)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by matthewmx86 27 comments

but we actually _need_ a bigger K-button especially for small kicker-sizes. people who have got small screens may use a small kicker. the icon-size of a small kicker is 16x16. it's more difficult to find out for the eyes, which of the icons on kicker is used for opening the k-menu.
i heard, kde 3.5 will have got naming for k-menu button. default button name is maybe "applications", but this is also too long! i hope that this will be configureable.

well, as written above, it works in that way you discribed, but only in that way yet.

Kicker vs. Kicker !

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by mononoke 14 comments

the easiest way to get that white line is, if you edit the background picture (of kicker) with gimp and add some white pixels...
but in fact.. that white line is totally misplaced, because, there is no way to hide the white line because it is coded. the Look of kicker should be fully customizeable, and until now, the best way is to remove the border. - Feb 12 2005

kwin process info patch

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by uddw 10 comments

hi, i am the same opinion...
sometimes it is hard to get the cpu time to even kill an application if this hangs up the system..

But, there could be more improvements to the Taskmanager:
1. the taskmanager doesn't save the view-settings (i always have to press Tree-view" option again when opening the taskmanager)
2. running Programms, for example "gimp", "Licq", "knotes" and other applications from "taskbar" or "systemtray", maybe EVERY user-application (also apps like xsnow that the user started even if they don't appear in taskbar or systemtray) should be displayed in a diffrent Tab inside the Taskmanager. Like this way, it is easy to find out. which of my running applications are laggy or hanging up the system.
3. the Taskmanager shoudn't be accessable by only Keyboard-shortcut or click on an Icon. it should also be accessable from one context-menu. maybe the context-menu when a user right-clicks on kicker or taskbar or systemtray.

maybe that would be some nice requests for wishlist on http://bugs.kde.org

i also would like to know how people do the rectangle Kmenu-button (Icon with side-text).

Gernerally, wouldn't it be a good idea, if the Applets (like Kmenu, Taskbar, Systray, etc) on Kicker could have a name beside it ?? similar like a usual Toolbar ? of course showing name of each applet should be optional.
