Plastik Win Decoration Mod

KDE Plasma Screenshots by oshogg 5 comments

i think, the old window-decoration button color was better. the color handling should not be changed. the old one was more easy for the eyes and that makes plastik really beautiful and gave it a elegance !

maybe hover/highlight color when you move the mouse over the buttons could be stronger (like in your screenshot), but not more colorizing i think.

but it would be perfect for me, it the plastik style gets a horizontal separation-line between toolbars, similar to "Thin-Keramik" or "Alloy" with gradient user-configurable. then plastik would be my No.1 Style !

Without this separation line, the toolbars sometimes look really messy :( - Dec 11 2003

AS YOU ALL CAN SEE IN THIS DISCUSSION, I AM TOTALLY RIGHT! we need to filter, otherwise this kdelook site is loosing its sense.

but it still will look like win95, if you don't change the "beveled" border for some widgets, i.e. the border from the Tab-panel. this kind of 3d-look that still very much styles belong to, is really not cool ;) i refer to the "plastik" style or the original, default style in WindowsXP. there the borders aren't 3d anymore, instead just a thin (colored) line.

i think, every complete and smooth looking iconset is really great. KDE can benefit very much of complete and good looking eye candy! the Noia is one of the complete great things! maybe it looks a kind of cartoonish, but, didn't you like cartoons when you were a child ?! oh, but then, you must have been a gay-child? and later, when you noticed, you hated that?!
*g* ok, enough..
i like Umicons too, though, i think, they wouldn't be my favourite icon-set for a long time, actually, i am using the Lycoris icon-set. ok, looking a bit like windows, but for me, i like a clean but good looking style. that's easy for the eyes, if you have to work with the computer for hours.. - Sep 30 2003

actually, i don't really use this kind of controlpanel, because i am acustomate to kontrolcenter.. well, i am not new to KDE :P. About copyright.. what about all the "osx" stuff.. NOBODY is saying anything about it! just against XP-stuff. so, don't tell me anything about copyright. IF you wanna talk about copyright, then let's talk about the US/UK-spys stationed in UK and spying our business. anyway who cares about some stupid Look'n'Feel stuff.. of course that's not the power of LinuxOS.

By the way, did you ever compared the Crystal-iconset to the XP-Icons ?? no ?!
you should, because that might be the best quality of copy i have ever seen, and these icons are the standard for KDE and many Distributions like SuSE, etc. (but i don't care on that, i like them anyway :P) - Sep 29 2003

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by mononoke 19 comments

hmm, i don't have got OSX and never used that before.. that's why i can't get a complete overview by just looking at screenshots of OSX.

the controlpanel is just a kind of "test" how to make a category-controlpanel for konqueror using html. well simple yes. but anyway, it is not possible (not easy) to map all the functions to diffrent Distributions.. for example, calling diffrent dialogs from the Distribution, SuSE has got its Yast, Mandrake has something else, and redhat, and other..
well, i could map only kde-related functions to the controlpanel, maybe i will do that, i don't know yet..

has got such a controlpanel too..

what is that "KDialog" about ? which kind of tool? - Sep 20 2003

KDE 3.0-3.4 Themes by ceebx 233 comments

hm, i think, it is not bad, the lines are nice like they are right now.. (for me) i think it is a kind of individual look.. Aloy has also got lines, but they doesn't hit the "border" of the scrollbar. actually, the lines on scroolbars of plastik are diffrent and beautiful, they are a good alternativ for the dots.. with some color-schemes, the dots are nearly invisible.

i just think there is a horizontal line separator missing in the style, for separating the menubar/addressbar/toolbars/etc.

thanx - Sep 20 2003
something like that is nice, but, in KDE 3.1.3 konqueror is still not able to draw the background image correctly, there are kind of artifacts left from the image, when trying to select some icons with the "selecting-rectagle" (don't know how to call it). that's why i don't use background images anymore.. but i hope that would be fixed in the future :) - Sep 19 2003

hi, what do you think about horizontal lines as kind of separator between Menubar,addressbar,toolbar,bookmarkbar..
just like the one from Alloy-Style (if using the settings):

i always switch between alloy or plastik style, because i like stuff of both.. the current look of plastik is simple and nice, but i think it still would be simple and more nice, if there is a horizontal line between the toolbars..etc. i don't mean it needs the gradient.. but, the line that is visible when using the above "gradient-settings" in Alloy.

ah, there must not be an option in the dialog.. but it would be nice if it is optional in the config file (like plastikrc - i mean, optional after compiling, not before).

it would be really great,
thanks - Sep 19 2003

KDE 3.0-3.4 Themes by ceebx 233 comments

i also thought, the dots on the scrollbars are more nice..
but, now i think, both are nice.. i would prefer an option in the style-settings dialog, to choose the one people like..

subject: KWin shadows
by KrAzY_BoY on Friday 12/Sep/2003, @11:35

I understand that the shadows under windows patch was included in the CVS but i cannot find it anywhere on KDE 3.2 alpha 1. Am i doing something wrong ? I have to uncomment some stuff in config files or add some stuff in kwin config file ? I need that cool thing :(

Re: KWin shadows
by Anonymous on Friday 12/Sep/2003, @17:04

Who says that it's included?

Re: KWin shadows
by Daniel Molkentin on Friday 12/Sep/2003, @17:20

The shadows are a major hack and way to slow to be included. I think there is a patch at kde-look.org that does this but we already had numerous bug reports where kwin was crashing due to this patch, so I wouldn't recommend it

Re: KWin shadows
by fault on Friday 12/Sep/2003, @21:53

I've been using the patch with HEAD for a few months without many problems. Earlier versions of the patch were very buggy indeed.

However, as expected, it needs a fairly good computer. I don't know how good; it's perfectly fast on my Athlon XP 2200+

My machine is P III 450 MHz!
even if you like Aqua or Mac so much, some people, including me would like to see standard 3.2cvs screenshots, maybe with little bit individual setup like kicker-background. could you show something like that too ?
thanks very much.

unfortunately, "Kwin Drop Shadows doesn't make it in CVS" if we can believe the statements from dot.kde.org.. is that correct ?

anyway, nice desktop, sure. - Sep 13 2003

MAN, What's YOUR Problem ?!

then, why do we need voting ?!?!
anyway, the bug/wish listing i made, is something realated to KDE, not to ME, for me it really doesn't matter, if i added the bug-report or someone diffrent, i also vote vor bugs that other people reported, i don't have got any problems with that, i just wish, KDE will be better and better!

Actually, the some bugs i added, are really important to fix, even if they are not crash-critical, but if fixing them, every KDE-USER, especially Users with slower machines (like P III class) will get a feeling of a smooth and complete Desktop Environment!

i am talking about the bugs relating to the KDesktop/Icon Handling!
i just need to move Icons on the KDE, and the feeling is really like i have a buggy-system !

Features are cool, but if features like a detailed Popup-Info (if it is correct) slowing down icon moving on desktop in 50% of cases, well, then it is important to fix that.

I would vote for a Major KDE Release (3.3 or 4.0) to only fix stability and Usability things like that. Then, you already have got the "blowing all away" Smooth Desktop on the Desktop-Market in the universe ! - Sep 09 2003

yes, agree.

i just thought yesterday. if the "Create Shortcut on Desktop" should really be a shortcut, or should it actually be a "Create Icon on Desktop"

i think, maybe "Create Icon on Desktop" would be more appreciated, since, Shortcuts (with little arrow) are looking not so nice like Icons!
and, i also notice a problem now.. i can't edit the "shortcut's Permission tab". (i can only set a diffrent Ownership!). - Sep 09 2003
Run Command...

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by mononoke 26 comments

NO, i bet, many people find it handy.
Too many Options, really now.. what about other Desktop Managers.. think about Icewm, or any others.. it's the same. definitly, KDE has got many Usability Problems, but the Problems should not be the reason, why this handy feature should not be added.

WHY people using "Run Command", because they didn't find the tool in the Kmenu, or it is not present anywhere.. so starting the application for the first time, makeing an Shortcut on Desktop can't be easier !
it cant't be easier (twice).

When i have a look at the Settings Dialog of Konqueror, i could just "through up"! it is so easy, to put some things together, that belong together. but no, You can find the "Cache-managing" as a single section on the left site. but, why not put it together with "Behavior-Section" and History-Section ?! i could tell you many things.. to reduce the "OVERLOAD-Feeling" in KDE !

and IF people really want to hide options.. then, it is also ok to put the "Create Shortcut on Desktop" into the "Advanced Settings"-Option of the Run-Command Dialog !.

Some People really have got a problem with Usability, that's why KDE is still like it is !

should i tell you, how many Times i already used the "Advanced-Settings" Options in the Run-Command Dialog ?!

Exactly 0 times !

(i should think about a wishlist-report to remove the Advanced-Settings Options from that dialog, and if it is not done, i'll patch it for myself).
