Hi! Thanks for your comment.

Unfortunately, I am no longer maintaining this plasmoid so I can't promise a port to Plasma 5.

Unless someone else decides port it or I get time to work again on this plasmoid, it seems it may be stuck on Plasma 4 :( - Jan 29 2015
Yes. Unfortunately, it is too much work for me to maintain both versions. However, I think the application version is a good replacement for the plasmoid as it has more features and is cross platform. - Aug 22 2012
I've created an application based on this plasmoid. You can find it here: http://priomsrb.github.com/lighttasks/

All new features will be added to the new application instead.

Thanks - Mar 21 2012
- Rename tasktimer.plasmoid to tasktimer.zip

- Extract tasktimer.zip

- The source code is in the contents/code/ directory - Feb 03 2011
Thank you for your kind feedback. It's nice to see that people like this plasmoid. However there are still improvements to be made. I hope I can work on this plasmoid more to make it even better. - Nov 21 2010
lol. Haha.

Yeah the main reason I went for the config file approach was becuase it was the simplest to do at the time. Also I couldn't find an easy way to do a tree like structure for a data engine. I needed a tree because there could be multiple plasmoids, each with their own set of tasks.

However I did not delve into data engines that much. It may actually be possible if I look over it again. Also if combined with data-engine services it could make the plasmoid code simpler.

Whether this is a weakness in the dataengine system I do not know. Because there are many more sophisticated plasmoids that successfully use data engines and it seems to work fine for them. - Oct 16 2010
This is due to a problem with unzipping files in KDE SC 4.5.1 and affects all downloadable plasmoids. There is a bug report for this problem which can be found here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249980

This issue should be fixed with KDE SC 4.5.2.

There is also a workaround that you can try. Type the following in the terminal:
Quote:
unzip 125922-tasktimer.plasmoid -d tasktimer
plasmapkg -i tasktimer

Hope this helps.

One thing I would like to ask is what are you planning to use it for? Is it for import/export, accessing timer values or something else?

I want to know because I think there maybe other alternatives to solving your problem as well. - Jun 15 2010
Ok. I can try adding import/export in the next release. I'm thinking it would be best if the file format was XML instead of plain text in case tasks become more complicated in the future. - Jun 14 2010
You're welcome :) - Jun 09 2010

Thank you for updating this plugin. I stopped working on this plugin some time ago but it is good to see that someone has found my work useful. I like the improvements you've made to the plugin. I hope other people also find your plugin useful. - Jan 07 2013
Sorry for the very late reply.

Unfortunately the pastebins you posted no longer exist. If you are still interested and have the patches with you, I would be happy to add them.

Thank you for your help. - Aug 07 2012
I use conky with feh as well. That's a nice solution you thought up. That would make slideshows work well with conky.

I added an extra arguments field in the settings. You can also add the positioning/resize type in the arguments by using %R. More info is in the readme.

Thanks for your suggestions. - Jan 31 2011

Don't worry. Thats fine. :)

But since there was no need to recompile from 4.4 to 4.5 maybe there is something wrong with the code since it needs a recompile for 4.6. - Nov 25 2010
I'm also using arch but compiling kde from svn myself. Since the wallpaper worked for me, I suggest that you try re-installing it from AUR again. That should make it recompile and it should hopefully work. - Nov 24 2010
Hi. Sorry for my late reply.

I tried running the wallpaper on KDE trunk and it worked fine. I am using:
- kdelibs and kdebase trunk (updated yesterday)
- Qt 4.7
- X Server 1.9

Have you tried recompiling the wallpaper? That might be the problem. What version of the libraries above are you using?

Thanks for reporting the problem :) - Nov 24 2010
yes you need kdebase-workspace-dev. It should work after that :) - Aug 26 2009
Hi

I think this might be a problem with my CMakeLists.txt file. I have now copied the CMakeLists.txt that Smooth-tasks uses since it also uses taskmanager.h. Can you try recompiling and see if it works? If it doesn't then could you try to see if Smooth-tasks compiles on your machine?

http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Smooth+Tasks?content=101586 - Aug 25 2009
Hmm... Unfortunately it's hard to tell why this is happening. It could be due to the large number of repaints on the screen screwing up plasma. Or it could be due to some other unrelated bugs.

If you could upgrade to KDE 4.3 when it is out and report back again that would be great :) - Jul 19 2009
Thanks :)

I think it is possible to detect when a window is maximised etc. This is one of my plans for the next version.

Another plan is to have a 'skybox' mode where dragging the desktop would rotate the background and the starfield and would let you look around. However this seems a bit complicated and would probably be slow... - Jul 19 2009
Thanks for the bug report :)

Unfortunately I have not been able to replicate it on my machine. I tried on both 4.2 and 4.3 trunk running on Kubuntu.

What KDE version are you using? Are you using any non-standard plasmoids?

BTW how do you look at the log files? I've been trying to find them but couldn't... - Jul 16 2009
Yes this wallpaper is very resource consuming :). I recommend leaving it in paused mode most of the time.

In the next version I'm thinking of adding the ability to pause the wallpaper automatically when there are windows open or a window is maximised.

The reason why it uses so much resources is because it uses software rendering. Using hardware accelerated drawing like openGL would considerably reduce resource usage.

So far I have not been able to successfully use direct openGL rendering. If anyone out there can help me it will be very much appreciated :D. - Jul 14 2009
thanks :) - Jul 12 2009
Thanks again! :) I very much appreciate package contributions, because most users probably don't have development files installed. - Jul 12 2009
In the next version I'm hoping to add the ability to pause the animation. That way when it not visible or you don't need it to be animated, it won't eat up your CPU :). - Jul 07 2009
Thanks for making a video! BTW I like your desktop layout ;) - Jul 07 2009
Thanks again :) - Jul 06 2009
I'm currently trying to port over to openGL, but it keeps crashing ;). Once I get that done it should be much better.

Good luck with your project :) - Jun 02 2009
Thanks for the package!

Hopefully if I can port it to openGL then it should drastically reduce the CPU Usage - Jun 02 2009
Thanks for the package!
Greetz - Jun 02 2009
Yeah :). One of the features I have planned for the next version is to have a image as a background. - May 31 2009
The current code can probably be made more efficient. In later versions I might use openGL instead (if its possible). Once the efficiency issues are resolved it might be ready for everyday use. - May 31 2009

I must say that I don't really see a need for yet another derivation (after Stasks, Smooth tasks, even Fancy tasks) which does basically the same thing.

Actually I think there is a good reason for this plasmoid to exist. Firstly the default task manager has some features that smooth-tasks and the others don't (animations when closing, splitting groups, present windows on a group).

Also the plasma devs do not want certain features to be present in the default task manager, which is understandable as it can make the configuration difficult for normal users. So this plasmoid is useful for users that have advanced functionality that won't be added to the default task manager. And if some of the features are useful enough, the plasma devs may add it to the default task manager. A similar thing happened to the nitrogen style and window decoration, which has now merged with the official oxygen style.

Another advantage is that if there are any features / bugs fixed in the default task manager, they can be added to this plasmoid and vice versa. - Aug 26 2010
You may need to install the 'kdebase-workspace-dev' package. - Aug 25 2010
One feature I really miss in the default taskbar is middle clicking a task to close it.

It makes closing multiple windows so much faster (rather than right click > close window for each window).

It would be great if you could add that feature. - Aug 25 2010
Smooth tasks is written from scratch. This plasmoid is a fork of the default kde taskbar. - Aug 25 2010

I think it looks quite nice though I wouldn't use it myself.

Having the windows orange as well gives them a kind of transparent look.

Also in Plasma 4.4 the taskbar will automatically use icon only when in vertical mode or when there is not enough space. - Dec 15 2009

Thanks for adding the middle click action.

It would be perfect if the tooltips could be middle clicked as well. Then 'highlight windows' will finally be used to its full potential :) - Dec 04 2009

It would be awesome if you could middle mouse click on icons to close apps. It would work just like a browser. But make it configurable for those that want to do other things. - Nov 02 2009
