About the date: KDE has locale settings which define the currency, date format etc. Those settings should be used by all KDE apps – at least by default.

If it's feasible the effect could use JavaScript and thus be downloadable without compilation.

Thanks for the new release, I'll try to build it. - Feb 12 2012

Lot's of ideas, not sure they are feasible. :)

E.g. default to system defaults regarding time and date format. I had to enable "use 24 hour display" although the locale of my KDE is set to German, same for the date pattern in the advanced tab which defaults to yyyy-MM-dd.

Not sure if valid, but to avoid burn-in because the clock is at the same position forever and e.g. the ":" or the first bits of circles always visible, the clock could automatically move every x hours by y pixels in one direction and x hours later back to the original position.

And of course: do whatever is necessary to get this into kdereview and KDE SC afterwards since it's surely a killer feature! Small, noninvasive, useful, innovative… The only thing that hinders it to replace the default clock is that one cannot click on it to open the calendar. :-)

Another feature one could think of is to have multiple clocks with different timezones. Or an even more classical theme with hands. - Feb 06 2012

I think there might still be a slight mix-up in the CMakeList.txt.

WARNING: GLES was found, but libkwinglesutils.so is not present

Ensure your KDE is complete and use ccmake to enable GLES nevertheless

That should be COMPILING OPNGL ONLY should it not?

And the build fails with:

Just to make sure:

It compiles on my computer fine. So kwin_gles is present.

On the same computer it fails to build if I comment out find_package(OPENGLES). Although kwin_gles is present.

To me this means that if OPENGLES is not found it fails no matter whether kwin_gles is present or not.

Try it out by commenting out the find_package line in the CMakeList on a computer where it does compile fine. - Feb 03 2012

Your CMakeList.txt does not disable OpenGLES building if it was not found.

I have a system with GLES and one without. On the GLEs enabled one it builds fine. But if I comment out the find_package(OPENGLES) it fails to build instead of just not building the GLES bit.

-- COMPILING FOR 4.8
-- HAVE OPENGL
-- Configuring done

Should not build anything GLES related yet it does which is why compiling on non GLES systems always fails. And it fails on GLES enabled systems if you comment out find_package(OPENGLES) in the CMakeList.txt.

Icon Tasks

Plasma 4 Extensions by CraigD 642 comments

If one hovers a task the exposee preview (not the small one) is shown and everything else is made transparent. But if one hovers a minimised taks an empty preview is shown and everything else made transparent, i.e. nothing is shown.

expected behaviour would be to show the exposee preview anyway, no matter whether a task is minimsed or not. - Nov 07 2011

If I choose #C1E084 as background-colour for the menu-bars, the menu-text is displayed as white. If I use #ffffff as background-colour, the menu-text is black. So I take it that the text-colour is chosen based on the background-colour.

However, this needs some more tweaking, since the colour mentioned above clearly demands black as menu-text colour (#C1E084). - Nov 04 2006
Would it be possible to grey out the menu-bar?

One can assign a colour to the bar that includes the file, edit, view etc. menus. However, focused and un-focused windows have the same colour. It would make the focus more obvious, if the windows without focus would grey out the menu-bar. - Oct 22 2006
amaroK Desktop Script

Amarok 1.x Scripts by Kner 88 comments

I restarted KDE and amarok (1.4.2) was not loaded, but the py-script (0.2), resulting in a black cover. Fair enough.

After that I started amarok and endless instances of amarokapp were created blocking KDE. killing amarok and the script solved the problem. Yet after starting amarok again it began again. So I removed the script manually from amarokrc and now it works as expected.

Not sure what could cause this. - Aug 26 2006

KDE 3.5 Themes by PaT 347 comments

Hi, I really like the style!
Is there a possibility to make the slider buttons smaller? In kmixer for example they look huge as they still have two points in them. Smaller would look a lot elegant.
I like the possibility to paint the combobox handles, yet I want them in a different color then the higlighting color. A darker grey for example looks good on them, yet not for selecting files in konqueror, could one get a custom color for that?
Why did you disable the brightening of symbols in the toolbar when hovering them? frame plus brightening would be my favorite.

Thanks for the style! - Dec 08 2004

I really like this little tool! Why is it not part of the KDE release? I mean have a look at the votes, this should really be part of the KDE release!

Should one file a wishlist item at bugs.kde.org in order to get this in, or do you not want this to be part of KDE? - Oct 26 2004

Maybe you want to have a look at http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=KDE+Context-Sidebar (click on the comments link at the bottom of the wiki-article-page) as people already added their thoughts and comments their.
Your ideas are mostly already in the suggestions for the feature. There is a d&d window in the context-sidebar which can be used to collect files and then do whatever you want, e.g. create a playlist from them, burn them, send them by InstantMesssenger etc.

If you find any suggestions that have not yet been included, please add them to the WIKI article, so that they can be used by developers interested in this feature.

The issue with the sidebar being attached to the side of a window instead of the side of the screen is also discussed in the comments section at the bottom of the WIKI-article.

I hope you join the WIKI-article! - Sep 16 2004

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by rabauke 14 comments

Is the sidebar in konqueror a waste of space? Not really, because how can space that makes KDE useful to new/unexperienced users be seen as wasted? If you do not like it you could enable it, however I think that a lot of unexperienced users need this and thus do not care about 250px or so less on the screen. Furthermore screens and resolutions get bigger and wider, obviously there would be problems on 800x600 and mybe even a few on 1024x768 but again, the gain of funtionality outweighs the loss of space by far. And for the people who do not think so, they can easily disable it. - Aug 22 2004

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by rabauke 14 comments

As I mentioned before, the images are just to give an expression of the idea and in no way meant to represent a final/polished result.

Further I do not agree with the Longhorn thingy, as this is not close enough to the app. Screens/resolutions are getting bigger and even wider so there is no space issue that would be as important as to sacrifice the closeness to the app/window. Autohiding isn't that good in my view either because people easily get annoyed when the sidebar pops-up because they came to close to the edge of the screen and second you hide the content of the sidebar and the user cannot see, whether it changed and offers the functionality he/she is looking for without going to the edge of the screen every single time he/she has selected files. - Aug 22 2004

Hi!

I had a look at Dashboard and as you already mentioned it is not so much about bringing functionality and apps to the user but mainly information. I mean in the case of kmail, IM and so on that is sensible and useful but for other environments such as filesystem etc. apps and functionality seem more important to me than information.

I'll move this to the wiki.kde.org site and see, whether some developers like this idea too. - Aug 21 2004

Well, I tried to describe as detailed as possible what I thought would be a good improvement. I did not know that gnome had something like that but will check it out.
I hope that there will be some developer interested in this, as I think that this is too much for my narrow knowledge of programming. Anyway, I'll have a look at that wiki and post the idea there too, hoping that there are enough people sharing our interest! ;) - Aug 20 2004
