gel window decoration

KDE 3.x Window Decorations by pootie 14 comments

i can only repeat what i say very often when it comes to kwin windecos - look at enlightenment to see usable windowmanager. several styles, each suited for specific purpose. and diferent in each theme. compared to that kwin decos here on kdelook are boring and uncreative - just zilion ordinary mswindows-alike decos with changed graphics. and that's why i don't like decgen. - Nov 10 2005

i agree. windeco generators took more creativity away then gave. yes, i don't see much creativity in moving buttons few pixels here or there or making them more square or more rounded.
don't get it wrong, i appreciate work people put into projects like this one a lot. but it pains me to see them thinking this is the only way to be 'creative'.
after some searching i've found only two projects i call really creative - B2 and Fitz. hundreds variants of MSwindows deco, and only two projects trying to be more then a mere graphical redesign. few others dying due to lack of interest
compared to, say, enlightenment's decos, it's sad. - Nov 04 2005

oh my, just another promising project degenerated to windows copypasting. if you people are unable to imagine things _better_ than in windows, why dont you just use them ? - Sep 04 2005
Filebrowser appearence

i prefer stick to KISS principle. this thing looks very nice but i have my doubts about usability - it's just too cluttered. action icons in corners of selection are neat, but i think many people will quickly run 'out of corners' :-) i think circular layout would be better - Sep 04 2005

i've created ebuild for this nice style. here:
drop me a word if anything goes wrong - this is first ebuild i've ever made and i'm still bit surprised it didnt blew my system to pieces :-) - Apr 15 2005
KDE Improvement 3.4 (Your opinion plz)

i think this is wasting of resources. it may be nice plugin of some kind for people who like eyecandy but it definitely shouldn't go in main KDE tree.

kdesu patch(mockup)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by jrch2k 18 comments

i definitely agree, integration with kdm user selection would be great.
enhancing kdesu is good idea but you have to keep in mind that most people use kdesu just to slam in root password and don't need fancy user selection and bloaty eyecandy, so any enhancement to kdesu should be optional.
personaly i like the idea but would prefer some less obtrusive way to select users. say - classic kdesu dialog with password plus edit field for typing in username manually, with history/autocompletion. plus, optionaly, button which would pop up selection box with all possible names or toggle iconview. what do you think ? - Feb 16 2005
System Tray 2 (with icon hiding support)

just another copy&paste from microsoft systems. and bad one. if your tray is cluttered, you have to throw junk away and not just sweep it under carpet. - Nov 11 2004

nice try but if you want to be 'different' how about insert some IQ into wm ? look at B2 - same thing, squareish, but smart in in preventing overlaping (yes - i like B2 :-)

this new "red roof" home icon is ... well, not bad actually but there's not even one blue pixel :-) the older one (all-blue) were much more "crystal" - May 18 2004
